Australian state border restrictions

In fairness, it's injecting money back into the economy. On a wander to the loo, I passed two apparently junior officers, burdened down with coffee. It all goes around.

Yet the lockdown lovers are still running the line “hospitals are overrun! They’ve been underfunded for years!”

The QPS staff are not working for free. Imagine what all that money could have done. And the same applies for each other state.

QPS would be being paid regardless. Unless crime is running rampant, they might as well drink coffee at the airport. It's a harmless occupation, providing of course the coffee beans were ethically sourced.

I would hazard a guess that there has been an awful lot of overtime being handed out. Unless their usual tasks managed to somehow stop.

You think the police at the airport are just being pulled off regular duties and not being paid huge amounts of overtime to cover the extra work?

This pandemic has shown that so many people think the government is an endless pile of money. Well except for health, that’s overrun and underfunded 🙄

I know of someone who told me they may have to cancel their Queensland holiday if they cant find a RAT test
I sympathise, we have cancelled trips to Vic and NSW because of the impossibility of getting, first, PCR tests to return and then RATs to return. It was the rankest idiocy I saw come out of Qld in the last two years. I am just glad the nonsense has stopped, at least for the time being, and have the opportunity to travel south again.
Screams desperado for their struggling tourism industry to just get us down south over the borders while school holidays still on.
Meanwhile in 2022, we just arrived on Maggie Island and were warned as soon as we got off the ferry and after that the struggle for everyone is now to find enough staff to open. The operators here would have no hope in the next few weeks of dealing with any sort of tourist influx. TBH I think Qld has been heavily leaned on, or just finally saw the light.

QPS had a counter at TSV next to the baggage carousel, and people, presumably from interstate, were showing them stuff. I am sure they will be glad to end this pointless nonsense too. Bring on Saturday.

The government is an endless pile of money. It's how they choose to distribute it is the question. Obviously endless printing of money affects the value of our dollar but within Australia, it's more a way of keeping score. If they dumped heaps more money into the functional end of the health system, heaps more people would have money to spend. The trick is, trying to stop it all disappearing into a few pockets and that's very much becoming a problem.

The problem with the Health isn't the heaps of money but those heaps go to the building of bureaucratic empires. More should go to those at the coalface so you wouldn't really change the numbers who work in Health but would make it more efficient

Not just the pure numbers of people but also what they are paid in their sparkling ivory towers is quite startling for what they do…

So, that’s where they [RATs] all went. Tassie. 🤣

Possibly. I haven't had a problem getting them; went into two pharmacies in Hobart I happened to be walking past and 'scored' both times (limit of 3 boxes - 6 tests - the first time, 1 box - 2 tests - the second). Ordered 5 from WA supplier before Christmas and another 6 I think currently on on-line oder. Giving a bunch to my siblings who havn't been able to get as not very mobile.

I've referenced Parkinson previously but it really is the core problem and I'm not sure if the solution has ever been found. Dig back through history and you'll probably find the Roman empire collapsed because of a surplus of bureaucrats and a shortage of people to attend to the core tasks, such as keeping the Goths at bay and upgrading the plumbing.

A great example of the bureaucracy at work here just before Christmas. We all got an email from above saying that the Goals of Care form was being re issued as the Medical Goals of Care form. I expressed my amazement at such a wonderful change. One of my junior colleagues informed me that he was on the Committee that decided on the change. Apparently the change of name had been debated for a year. And all this whilst everyone was thinking about Covid.

It seems to apply to almost everything. And sadly, said bureaucrats manage to end up in charge of the organisations…at which point they do their best to outsource all of the core functions. Qantas is a wonderful example. Defence is another. I’ve always thought, wandering around the various corridors, that you could get rid of everyone at the coal face, and it would take a couple of years before the the ivory towers noticed.

The only change they'd notice is that there's less traffic on the entrance to the carpark when they are going to their reserved space.

Flew BNE-NTL return yesterday. Absolutely no restriction or questions either end. No police wandering around either airport.
Overall, very quiet trip. Grand total of 11 Pax for return trip and I reckon we doubled the number of people in Brisbane airport when we arrived at 5.30 pm.

Police must enjoy getting back to policing - the offenders.

Yes a modern trend (in Australia at least) where bureaucrats get paid even higher salaries and combined with politicians desperately deplete their departments of competent qualified staff so they can then outsource (often to the very people they just made redundant) so that no one can be held responsible for the stuff ups.

That’s bedtime for us Brisbanites 😂
Did seem like it. It was Saturday evening though, I'd've thought you'd push the boat out just a little bit!
Definitely wasted my $5.89 going through the tunnel. I was virtually the only one down there but just too lazy to work out the above ground route.
