Australian state border restrictions

Foreign sport stars are going to find restrictions here increasingly unacceptable if they aren't eased to roughly match what they face overseas. State borders are much less of a concern than international travel and quarantine requirements when it comes to hosting international sport here. I would expect that most Australians attending an Ashes match aren't travelling interstate to do so, anyway. I've only travelled interstate to attend an Ashes match once myself and that was several years ago.
This probable delay is coming from the UK end and not Australia. One key player already 'injured'. Then there will be the TA players.

Presume you mean Ashe’s 2022!??😂
hamilton starts in Melb next March - I’ve got my seats but will I get to go🤔🤔 but they do have a generous Covid refund policy …..I’m not sure if I’ll go to the AuS Open in 22 (if applicable)..been going for over 20 years but the Covid safe measures left a lot to be desired….not to mention the appalling crowd behaviour …
… this year …not sure where you are but can you exchange tix for Hamilton for Melb. They will certainly change dates and refund if Covid precludes…

I live in Brisbane and had to cancel a trip to Hobart for last weekend, but I checked the Tasmania Covid website just to see what they said about SEQ and it's pretty clear who can and can't enter Tasmania from restricted areas, and the G2G pass can only be obtained the day before travel.

Sounds like they just decided to go hoping they'd be able to enter Tasmania. Looks like they will, but for two weeks in quarantine.
Tasmania has two different arrangements for entry. The G2G pass or through the Tas e-Travel system. The e-Travel pass can only be applied for within 24 hours of travel. G2G you apply in advance:

"To enable appropriate assessment of Essential Traveller applications when specialist interstate skills are required, G2G Essential Traveller applications should be made at least seven (7) days prior to travel to Tasmania, where possible."

The problem is for someone in my position, I leave home on a five day work trip, with no assurance of being able to get back. They won't issue a G2G pass for travel to a low risk area but if things change, there's no time to apply for a G2G pass. It's a gamble every time, which is a ridiculous situation for someone entitled to an essential traveller exemption.

I’m not sure if I’ll go to the AuS Open in 2022
We had tickets for that in 2021, added to our cancellations pile.

Won't be fazed if thay can the Ashes, the refund policy was cough, so relatively good if they cancel. Of course no flights or accom booked yet.

Injury isn't a reason to stop sport, but several players or the whole team pulling out due to unreasonable onerous restrictions could be.

We had tix for Frozen in July but couldn't travel to VIC due to border restrictions (both into VIC and into ACT on return). Even though we'd bought the "Covid" insurance, we weren't covered for such travel restrictions. In fact, the only thing we were covered for that was covid-related, was if the performance was cancelled due to covid. It wasn't for our date, but was from the following day - ie if we were in VIC at the time we could have seen the show. Only a lot of begging following a lot of being handed off between the venue and the ticket company, managed to secure a change of date, which is also doubtful of course.

There's no way I'm booking anything interstate for the time being. I also don't have a lot of empathy for some sectors supposedly doing it tough either as my experience shows that we're not "all in this together". More like "I'll screw you over if I can".

Agree but was more implying a convenient excuse not to come. I don’t think they will be here. And Fed simply cannot grant the players AND their families to come and the players won’t come for that long without them. Over Christmas etc.

That isn’t right. We were refunded by ticketek I think it was for a concert that we couldn’t go to as one of us had to have a Covid test on that morning. Sent them an email and it was refunded within the week. I was totally shocked!

Re your last comment…
Yes - were all in the same S—tstorm together but some of us are in luxury yachts and others in leaky rafts

Yes I kind of feel the same about the ski areas - I know it is tough for them with Sydney locked out, but for years they have gouged the eyes out of us all with ridiculous prices and poor service. It is sometimes hard to feel sympathy for them now the boot is on the other foot.

In our case, we were told that because the show was still going ahead our tickets were valid and the fact that we were travelling from interstate - but couldn't, was not grounds for change or refund (in accordance with the policy - which my wife did not fully comprehend). Pretty coughpy insurance really which was basically travel insurance with a "cancellation by us due to covid" clause.

So just to clarify - if you didn't have the insurance and they cancelled, then they keep the money??? Otherwise, I'm not sure the value of the "insurance"

Oh goodness - don't get me started about my recent Jindabyne experience with gouging. I will feel a certain "suffer in your jocks" smugness when I see the same tourism operators on TV complaining that no-one is visiting presumably because they're travelling overseas.

Presumably. But you'd also presume that they'd have to refund if the show was cancelled, thus rendering the insurance pretty much useless. Unless you cancelled for one of the other inclusions (sickness, etc).

sorry to have triggered you @Happy Dude - we are on the same page for sure. I do have some sympathy for the small coffee shops and take away food places in Jindy that seem to have become much more reasonably priced lately as a result of increased competition in the town. And Woolies there is the same price as anywhere else. But I have none at all for Perisher or Thredbo, the fuel stations, accommodation providers, ski school and everyone else just ripping everyone off and offering terrible, terrible service.

Japan is booked for Feb 2023 for the Seat family. Bring it on.

Time to go shopping for ski clothes then!

South Aussie Olympians in NSW quarantine are going to be required to spend another 14 days in quarantine in SA but at home. Given our latest outbreak was caused by someone not having to quarantine after NSW stint, this was to be expected. Everyone else has to do it so Olympians no different.

Exactly the same deal for the Ashes tickets we bought. We bought "refundable tickets" from Ticketek, but there is this wonderful exclusion in Ticketek's T&Cs.
Refunds are not issued where You do not Attend because You are worried about catching Covid-19 or You are isolating without a positive Covid-19 test in Your household, or where Your travel plans are affected by Covid-19 restrictions.
So to get a refund, I have to actually catch COVID, or the event has to get cancelled.

Cheers skip

Not the Olympians' fault, but the AOC should have done a better administrative job - Howard Springs or somewhere much more likely to be 'acceptable' like WA.....
