Ban the hi vis gear in business lounge!

I don't notice what any one wears in the lounge and couldn't care less about what they do wear. 99% of the people in the lounge I will never see again (apart from that strange fashionista guy that I see in MEL frequently) and I have no interest in their lives.

And it's likely they have no interest in ours

Are we going to get to the point where the crushed suit and shirt won't be permitted after a hard days work?

I agree dirty clothes shouldn't be permitted.

Interestingly I have showed in the lounge and changed to something more casual, would I refused entry on this account?

This also makes me think about my attire in the f lounge. Generally I am flying long haul so not going to the office - this means I wear (on every flight for the past couple of years) a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren Cargo pants and a PRL Polo shirt (I do sometimes vary the particular short worn) - I guess I should revert back to the chinos and collared shirt...

I wear high vis for work and fly with it on too, I pay just as much for a J ticket as you and if you are prejudice against people who wear different work clothes, <redactedget (personal)>

Its the business lounge for people who have paid for a J ticket and WP's not the suit an tie lounge.

I guess it all depends upon your interpretation of 'smart casual'

I'm in the SYD J lounge right now and there are two Gents from the Army next to me in their fatigues.

I find their camouflaged uniform repulsively offensive so I'm torn between asking them to change into a more appropriate attire or rounding up a team of private school educated fellow platinums to chase them out armed with pitchforks.

As ex military I find the cams as more acceptable than hi viz.

It frankly annoys me that something as pitiful as the wearing of hi vis in J lounge is a massive discussion.

Surely there are more important things in the world to discuss

There are more important things to discuss but occasionally it's good to have a bit of lighter banter. If people don't like the discussion they do have to partake.

Hate to tell everyone but Chinos are a twill trouser developed for military and work wear. As such, they are inappropriate attire.

It all just gets too silly. :D

Can't see Anything wrong with what you have been doing.

Not if you fess up first

Neither can I really but if we are to ban hi viz then I will need to reassess my attire in the F lounge.

As an aside I find it strange to see people in military uniform travelling on public transport - after the rise of terrorism in the UK in 80's the military were advised NOT to wear uniform when travelling...

That's right, no piking out. They do have to partake. Right straitman? :D

In some parts of the US, that alone gives you preferential boarding! Crazy aint it..

Yes, those "can't see me suits" definitely don't seem to work too effectively. :D

So painter's overalls are ok as long as they paint inside only? What about subbies working on a building site if they are working on the internal plastering rather than rendering the outside?

I believe you will need to find out the dress code of the Australia Club or Melbourne Club or Queensland Club to find the correct dress standard. In any case nothing short of dinner attire is appropriate after 6pm in the F lounge.

Would you say the same if someone was to walk into a hatted restaurant in stubbies? The question being is smart casual dress rules being enforced as per the QP rules, or is a blind eye being turned in preference to attracting the $$$? Is it to much to ask someone to change their clothes to meet the rules?

10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances.

It intrigues me that nobody* has noticed the comma (,) between the word smart and casual. The standard is not "smart casual", it is "smart, casual". AFAIK, smart typically means 'neat' in this context. Being neat, casual, I think we can dispense with the jackets :D

* On a more thorough reading of the thread, I note that ajca did muse on the unique Qantas concept of 'smart, casual'

Welcome at AFF touki, sorry if you see a robust discussion as snobbery, at the heart of the matter is essentially what is the dress standard applicable as defined by the lounge managers. High Vis is not just worn my miners of course, I spent the day in it Friday and I was no where near a mine (or a QP)!

Thanks I am a long time lurker.

I see a lot of elitests in here.

Personally I couldnt care what others wear. Ever since i was a kid i was told not to worry about others.

Some fluro is hardly going to change your lounge experience. I do agree that us miners can get a little roudy at times, but that's a seperate issue.

Given the work experience students employed in QF's web development and the dizzying rate of decline of English language standards, I strongly suspect that not only did the person that put the comma there not understand the impact it might have on the interpretation but also that their grasp of what a comma was and is for is limited to point of not being existent.
