Ban the hi vis gear in business lounge!

This has nothing to do with defending the working man. This has to do with misguided souls who think they can judge the character of people by the clothes they wear. The clear implication throughout this thread is that hi viz wearers are undesirable.
Rubbish.

The undesirables are boorish oafs wearing suits. If we are going to ban one type of neat and tidy workwear then ban all types of work wear including stinking suit wearing salarymen.
A huge generalisation. No one is suggesting that neat and tidy workwear be banned.

Right and exactly how many flights to mine sites leave from the international terminal. Basically zero need to use this lounge and be in hi viz gear. Not to mention it isn't a Qantas Club.
Irrelevant to the topic.

Same comments apply. J lounge is not a qantas club. I'd be extremely surprised if there was any more than a limited demand for the lounge by hi viz wearers during the limited hours of operation of island dining. In fact I can't remember seeing any such clothing in the Sydney J lounge.
Your lack of observation does not mean it doesn't happen.

Back in the day I reckon I can remember one Hugh Morgan flying to a site in Hi Viz. I'd love to hear you tell him to get out of the CL.
Irrelevant. Same comments apply. CL is not a qantas club.

Actually I have seen a few in Brisbane international biz lounge. On their way home to NZ.

The business lounge is a "qantas club lounge" (and the subjec tof this topic), appears in the Qantas club section under lounge access (by comparison the JQ lounges dont) and operates under the same liquor licence as the QP, obviously in Melbourne you need to walk through one to get to the other. I am not surprised you dont see too much Hi Vis in Sydney at any time, different story at BNE.

http://www.olgr.qld.gov.au/resources/index.php/liquor/details/92520/pdf

Refer back to you pedantic post earlier in the thread about the word "club". Qantas Club does not equal business lounge. By your own standard they are not the same.

Yep, failure to defend your opinion is rubbish.

A huge generalisation. No one is suggesting that neat and tidy workwear be banned.

Read the thread. A number of people have stated that all clothing, neat and tidy or dirty, in the hi viz category should be banned.

Irrelevant to the topic.

But not irrelevant to the post to which I replied.

Your lack of observation does not mean it doesn't happen.

It does however support my contention that the demand is limited while island dining is in operation.

Irrelevant. Same comments apply. CL is not a qantas club.

I totally agree but again that is a reply to another post that did raise the CL.

Because that's how it's sold !

IIRC, as a member of the QFF program you can only purchase access to the QP - all other lounges are either earned or by invitation.

Excluding of course the proliferation of Flounge passes that can be purchased on ebay - which only underlines the fact that it's an everyday, vanilla flavoured, bog standard airline lounge......not a gentleman's club!

And so they should be made to change. But still, does the international business lounge offer sit down dining? Where they in the BNE F lounge?

Wow what contraversy over clothes. So much snobbery.

I am a FIFO miner and sometimes if i'm rushed somewhere there is no chance to change or I need to go directly to site. I am WP, are you saying I should not be allowed in to the J lounge, even if i am WP and flying J on account of fluro coloured clothes? That's absurd.

I don't like to wear good clothes to site because they get wrecked by the red dirt, so yeah you'll see me in there with thongs and shorts. I also wear the same in the F lounge.

The simple solution to this alleged problem is for QF to buy some enormous closets and have all lounge patrons check their clothes in at the door! But it may create a whole other problem.

I don't recall having seen hi-viz patrons in any Qantas lounge (certainly not in large numbers, maybe the odd one here or there) and that will be because I don't fly at the right times from the right ports, but I cannot see why their gear should be a problem, as long as it is neat and clean and all the appropriate body bits are covered. As with any other sort of gear worn by other patrons. Naturally there is a 'minimum' standard of dress, and just what that minimum is will vary in different people's minds. I really don't like singlets (on blokes) and think they are probably inappropriate in a lounge or even in flight. But that is just an opinion, and even disliking them does not mean I am trying to force my opinion on others who choose to wear them. I can only recall wearing shorts once on a flight (from JTR-ATH, and just about everyone on the flight was in shorts), but as long as they are neat and clean etc. I don't object to to others wearing them. If people wish to wear thongs in the lounge/on the plane I don't think they're being very practical (quick evacuations onto abnormal terrain for example), but again, no objections.

You would not see me (in normal circumstances, there are exceptions to every rule e.g. the JTR-ATH flight) in any of those items in a lounge or plane - but in hi-viz, why not?

Coming soon to an Airport near you, the all new Wanquer LeSnob inspired SBF Poshy Lounge,

Our lounges offer comforted seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of the terminals before your flight. To better fulfill the requirements of the sophisticated modern traveller, our lounges are seperated into exclusive zones, each catering to the travellers desires:

  • The Ultra Premium zone - where bag tags, boarding passes and status levels determine just how many footsteps further you're allowed in
  • The Executive Senior Chief Chairmans lounge - catch up with the old boys to discuss how risk-free your prominent position actually is
  • The high-viz zone, specially dimmed for added visability, knock back a few after a few weeks of hard yakka, dont forget to wipe your feet on the DMS at the entrance.
  • The family and kids zone, with new noise absorbing padding to prevent the desprate cries of want from the "i" generation.
  • The Revolving Door - for those without any kind of status who need some direction in life.
  • The "Oh Suits You Sir" area, where white collars kick back, relax and unwind before the tedium of catching their commute home - now with special Chateau Le Plonk on tap
  • The MyFi zone our blistering internet connectivity area, specially built for updating your social networking status (pre-filled with "at lounge")
  • The Bar - unlike other lounges, ours is set very low.

I'm in the SYD J lounge right now and there are two Gents from the Army next to me in their fatigues.

I find their camouflaged uniform repulsively offensive so I'm torn between asking them to change into a more appropriate attire or rounding up a team of private school educated fellow platinums to chase them out armed with pitchforks.

You can of course purchase a J fare which then allows admittance to the business lounge which of course is what the subject matter entails.

I wewr high vis for work and fly with it on too, I pay just as much for a J ticket as you and if you are prejudice against people who wear different work clothes, <redacted (personal)>.

Its the business lounge for people who have paid for a J ticket and WP's not the suit an tie lounge.

Welcome at AFF touki, sorry if you see a robust discussion as snobbery, at the heart of the matter is essentially what is the dress standard applicable as defined by the lounge managers. High Vis is not just worn my miners of course, I spent the day in it Friday and I was no where near a mine (or a QP)!

I think that I would have been too fatigued to have done anything about it.

I thought I covered that with the word "earned";) but the point remains it's still an airline lounge serving all passengers - fat, skinny, short, small, young, old, wearing clean appropriate clothes....no matter what colour it is.

I don't believe there's prejudice against people wearing 'different work clothes' - it's a discussion about dress standards.
I don't find 'get over yourself champ' type comments advance that discussion, either.

It frankly annoys me that something as pitiful as the wearing of hi vis in J lounge is a massive discussion.

Surely there are more important things in the world to discuss

Its very important. What you wear hurts my eyes.

I don't notice what any one wears in the lounge and couldn't care less about what they do wear. 99% of the people in the lounge I will never see again (apart from that strange fashionista guy that I see in MEL frequently) and I have no interest in their lives.

I agree And BTW, Mrs GPH just made the point that "dirty" work clothes , high viz or not make life difficult for the next pax in that seat.
