Brisbane Lounge Changes

Looks great, and can't wait for my next flight to check out the new lounge.
As above, I hope the "Mexican" food thing isn't a permanent food theme. Thats what they do in the LA lounges after all!

Or an international flight at some point?

OT to this thread but... a return to international flying on QF metal right? We all remember 81 ADL-SIN, and there has been some AKL flying in the past I think :)

I think it will be permanent. In his speech, Neil Perry said he used LAX as inspiration for the BNE lounge.

Judging by the canapés served last night the Mexican theme has good potential to be successful.

Judging by the burgers we ordered from burger project, they are too! 10 burgers all of which were awesome!

Mexican theme won't be such a great idea for those that don't eat Mexican.

Why is variety such a difficult concept?

The Mexican themed food is in addition to the standard business lounge hot/cold buffet. Presumably the standard business lounge hot buffet won't be Mexican food.

Saying that the ingredients are quite flexible as to what you can do with them (i.e it doesn't have to be Mexican), plus you still have the buffet to choose from.

There will always be pax who don't like a certain type of food, they can't win them all no matter what the choice is. I heard pax complaining QF prompts unhealthy food after they introduced the pizza oven in PER, and I thought everyone will be happy with pizza...

From what I understood the LAX lounge is a big success so they wanted to introduce similar winning concept to Dom pax here as well. I'd give it a chance before dismissing it, Mexican cuisine is of huge verity, they can prepare some very interesting dishes there.

I attended the event on Thursday evening. This is without question the best Domestic lounge in Australia. I will certainly factor this in when I'm booking multi sector trips with a choice of transit stops.

Looking forward to visiting this lounge, but I'll have to wait as I won't be in BNE for a while. The new lounge certainly would make a trip to CNS via BNE a bit more attractive.

Are you serious?

Variety is difficult. Just look at almost every buffet restaurant.

FWIW the buffet selection (sample) featured beef stew served with rice, vegetable soup, a nice salad, dips and veg, cheese selection and a sandwich toaster available. Plus a couple of nice cakes.

so new BNE J beats (newish) PER J then?

As tough and perhaps unfair as that assessment might be, yes.

The design concepts are quite similar, but of course BNE sorely needed the space as well as the numbers, and there is a natural advantage at BNE with the kind of space it could exploit. In addition, BNE has premium entry.

In any case, one might also blame the "latest and greatest" effect.

Qantas will have their work cut out for them when (or if) they redesign the lounges in SYD and in MEL, let alone the BNE QP (and I don't even want to think about how they will manage the transition arrangements for any of those situations).

Yes Premium entry seems very cool and unique to BNE

(aside - is that open even if the lounge isn't? anyone know?)

I also realised my question was premature... the BNE J has not been used "in anger" (ie: in normal operations with real pax and no bands :) ) so guess have to wait and see in time how it goes from those who have used both over the next few months.

Absolutely BNE needed it so whatever the food or the design it's a very very welcome addition for the many pax out of BNE :)

Great, guess that means we'll be seeing more of you!

I'm also glad I booked that SC run, 22 months of access is just perfect.

Not laughing, just a little smile. Ive got it booked for mid April, I didn't think it was opening till very early April

I'll be staying there the night before my European odyssey so I don't have to get up quite as early on the GC!
