Changes to partner earns on QF

If QR J earns at economy rates, then surely J redemptions will be at economy points prices.

Right?

Yeah like PER-ADL was put in the same distance bracket for earn as for redeem.

Just got my October points balance and 'great offers' newsletter - not a word of these changes contained in there (that I can see). And no other notification.

I would not be surprised if this was an item the airline rep reported back to management, or someone in casual conversation with senior management had mentioned. The 'class J' earning at business class has been around for years, and could have been changed to Premium Economy (which it actually is) at any time. There was a thread on AFF about 'Class J' earning not so long ago, and it's possible that thread got reported back.

It's also been mentioned on more than one occasion on FT

Definitely in mine, about 2/3 the way down
Earn across the globe with our partner airlines From 1 Dec 2015, earn Qantas Points based on where you fly, as well as your choice of airline and the fare purchased.

QFF definitely have SIINed here and failed at KISS 101
(Simple It Is Not)

They would have been better using Tier1/2/3/4/5/6 rather than the confusing Class names given the remapping that occurs.

That might make sense on flights through to Europe but not on flights such as PER-KUL to which QF offers no alternative.

QF don't fly to KUL at all do they? Last time I checked, they wanted me to my QF to SIN and then one of the Asian JetStars to KUL, rather than MH's direct flight.

That is precisely my point. They seem to understand brand differentiation from a business perspective yet expect us to be happy to switch to Jetstar wherever QF doesn't fly.
If I was going to switch to a LCC I'd forget the Qantas group and OW completely and fly with someone else.

I doubt there is a significant number of people buying JL Class J fares. These changes are just vindictive.

Absolutely laughable.

So now, to use the calculator, what class you actually fly in is irrelevant; it's what class Qantas considers you fly in that's important.

Maybe they consider Russia to be in Asia (by area) rather than in Europe (by population, capital location).

Correction. You also need to know which Qantas-defined region you flew to.

"We flew to Doha with Qatar and then onto Moscow in business class. Qantas gave us discount economy status credits for flying to Asia. It's how they roll".

Ok! Now I found it!

Sooooo... 'Earn points on magazine supscriptions' is nice and big, pictures to go with it. 'changes to earning' is almost the last thing on the newsletter?

And still no explanation why Qantas feels they can ignore their own three month notice period.

Just booked QR business class flights this morning to Europe!! Having read the detail it would appear that my earn rates have significantly decreased, what a joke!

I've already put a call into Qantas, the rep didnt have a clue what I was talking about, he insisted that I would earn J class rates. I directed him to the new information and he was very apologetic, he informed me that he hadn't been given an update on the changes. He was quite embarrassed and asked for some time to escalate the issue before getting back to me. He's promised to call back on Saturday.

I can't believe that my booking will now have this new earn rate applied. Hopefully an exemption will be introduced for existing bookings if the new earn rate has a negative impact, I can only hope!

Yes the QR business earning rates are absolutely ridiculous. Makes a whole mockery of OW in my opinion.

I think you will find some of the changes are related to status. It is a major concern. Lounges are overcrowded. People are getting smarter and smarter and Qantas needs to keep up.

So how else do you stop AA First earning the same rate of SCs as Qantas First?

Good luck - don't let them snow you! You booked under certain T&Cs, they have to be honoured fit. EDIT: Just retread your post; if you just booked today, you might be stuffed. But then argue the 3 months to changes QFF rule.

Don't accept "we'll allow you to cancel without penalty" cough.

And if they don't call back, initiate a complaint to your state consumer organisation , to get a reference number. This won't get very far, without effort, but you will have a ref to refer Qantas to.

Of course it may be that QF Intends to honour existing bookings, but on past form, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw their MD.

It seems you can now earn SC's on LY!

Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes, except on El Al codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas.

Booked them before going to work this morning at 6.30am, hopefully the timing helps with the situation!

I could have flown Etihad to try the new product (fare was also cheaper!), I was very tempted! The J class status credits to Qantas was the only thing that stopped me. I'm now seriously considering cancelling although QR have informed me that it will be $300 US to cancel :(

I'm trying to stay loyal to Oneworld but this most recent change has got me thinking about heading over to Virgin. Such a move would make things much easier in my household as we would both be aligned to the same carriers!

From a Qantas perspective, are there any existing bookings? A ticket with someone else is subject to their T&Cs, not to the Qantas T&Cs......
