China travel bans from Late 2022

Well if they are not on tourist visas then they already go through fairly extensive checks as part of the visa application process. Sleepers, incidentally, are not usually jobless as that would defeat their whole purpose.
Then I must ask my friend if he is a sleeper. 🤣

I am looking forward then to cheaper tickets. Used Finnair to book flight to Berlin. The cheapest was on 31 December!! Means fireworks en route

Today we visited Bridestowe Lavender estate and I was surprised by how few people were there. 4yrs ago, it was charge to get in front of the tourist buses to get pics before the crowd but we didnt see anything larger than a large mini van and no more than 30 people in the 2.5hrs we were there.
Previously, I think the popularity would be with by the Chinese. Especially after their premier, Xi Ping visited a couple of years before hand.

Talking about this last night. Understand flights directly from China, but what is stopping them flying to a non-testing country, then on to Italy?

The short answer is a special declaration “Have you been to China in last X days?”. But are they doing that????

Nothing. But can't this activity be tracked these days?

Italy has just announced all passengers on flights from China will have mandatory covid tests on arrival.

Noted around 50% of passengers arriving in Italy on first couple of flights from China tested positive.
In theory these folk were then supposed to self-quarantine, but you wonder if and how that was done.
As a tourist with limited time and having spent your money, the temptation to "experience Italy" would be strong.

...and those 50% sat next to passengers on a long haul flight with most of them not wearing masks who in 3 days tie have a high chance of being infected and wandering around with no symptoms

It's kinda like being on public transport in Melbourne or any other city in the world.

50%, incidentally, is a pretty mind-blowing statistic. Given that someone infected is likely to give a positive test result for a week or so, and then be resistant to infection for 4-12 weeks, and given that half the population in places like Australia still claim never to have had Covid, it almost looks like a made up statistic.

Madness. The greed is unbelievable.

I've booked a hotel for a week in April that was used by Chinese tour groups pre-Covid and now I am starting to panic.

Is it true as I read in abc.com.au that in Aus positive tests no longer need to be reported? Kinda game over then.

What percentage do you think were being reported anyway?
True. I reckon oldies would be reporting them. Health and aged care people. (And I don't consider myself old 🤭)

Or more pointedly - what chance do the cabin and air crew have of not getting Covid-19.

Mind you, due to massive (virtually no deaths ;)) infection spread leading to the break down of goods transportation - SBS reported that the CCP is instructing asymptomatic infected to turn up at work.

A cynical report out of Italy suggested that due to the well known state of the Chinese Health System - people who knew they had caught Covid-19 & were financially well-off enough - are deliberately heading out of China to Western countries in case they need hospitalisation.

The latest tourism fad? Covid-19 tourism?

Why would Qantas be hesitating here or means they are unprepared?

Qantas cautious on resuming flights to China

The actual link in question about China and Qantas.

Sounds far fetched. Chinese citizens would have to apply for a visa which is a time-consuming process. By the time they have organised everything they will have recovered. Besides which, my own recollection of having Covid is that a trip to the kitchen seemed unattractive, let alone a trip to the other side of the world.
