I'm planning a trip to Akaroa for lunch and a wander around the town. It is a pretty spot, with a few nice places to eat . You can get your passport stamped (for a fee) at the local Post Office.

there are about 23 of us attending all up ? (room for 3 more I believe)
I would like to make a suggestion that we should all agree on before we get there.
CHC has had a pretty rough trot over the last few years, multiple earthquakes and the ;like, and now severe bush fires, as Australian residents, we are all too familiar with the devastation a bush fire can bring to a community. I also know that AFF'rs are a decent lot and I was wondering if we were to all agree to drop AUD $10.00 into an envelope on the night, and entrust this to CHCkiwi to donate (on our behalf) ,to any appeal that is going for those victims of the bush fires.
I know it's not a lot, and feel free to tell me i'm being stingy, but as a minimum amount, I'm sure we would all forego a glass of wine, coughtail or beer to donate to a good cause.
i also know that as weekend tourists we are doing our bit for their local economy.

As much as I'm very pro supporting CHC (we keep visiting regularly and putting money into the economy), I think that donating money to any cause is a very personal thing and therefore should be up to individuals to decide if they want to donate.

Fair enough. But the rest of us probably don't get there as often as you. It is good to know you're a supporter of things CHC. :-).

If anyone is planning on being in CHC before and after the DO, I'm planning on being there for work the Thu and Fr beforehand and the Mon after. Happy to drinks/dinner/tourist activities if any organised.

Looking forward to this dinner and a long weekend in a new city to tick off the list. Will probably explore the International Antarctic Centre , always have a had a interest in the polar areas (hope to get to either one day). Also will look at taking a trip up the Gondola and agree with others a trip down to Akaroa looks a good option .

Antarctic Centre is very close to the airport... Check there opening times as our flights didn't give us enough time there.

Just confirmed our flights home! +1 and I are both on EK413/QF8765 to SYD.

We're both going to enjoy our first First Class! :D

For those with an aviation interest, (so probably nobody here, right?), the Air Force Museum of New Zealand in Wigram (a suburb of Christchurch) is an excellent facility. I went with tour guide chchkiwi on my last visit.

NZ's contribution to WWII is often forgotten by the rest of the allies, but there were an important partner in that war alongside other forgotten minor powers such as Australia.

I used to love going there :)

Looks like this (EK413/QF8765) might be the party flight back based on numbers. Although we will have to meet in the bar - as common ground.

I think (by my count anyway) there are at least 5 of us, maybe more?
