If anyone is considering signing up for this card, please use my referral link by clicking >>> HERE <<< or the picture of the card at the bottom of my post.

I only fly 2 or 3 times a year so building a decent points bank is somewhat difficult. Using my referral code would benefit me greatly, as well as netting yourself an extra 30,000 points by using it. There are many great perks for you by signing up to the Amex Velocity Platinum Card. They include the following...

- 80,000 velocity points upon spending $500 within the first 3 months
- A free return domestic flight with Virgin each year.
- 2 free passes to a domestic Virgin lounge per year
- 3 points per $ at thousands of restaurants across Australia.
- 2 points per $ for airlines, accommodation, cruise and tour operators
- Supplementary cards for no additional cost
- Discounted international companion business class fares on Virgin / Etihad / Delta
- Usual travel insurance / purchase protection etc

For anyone that chooses to use my referral link, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks guys.

AMEX free flights:

I just phoned AMEX to clarify routes available as I had trouble finding what would be the latest map. Called 1800 059 388 (have cc number and memorable date handy). PER - SYD - PER is available, but not SYD - PER - SYD, but these are not shown on the map. No open jaws allowed.

Here's the link that AMEX just provided to me by email: AMXACQ2389_FlightMap

If you book inside 21 days, you can only access 'saver' fares and it's whatever is available on the VA site, AMEX can only access what you can see as available. Outside 21 days they can access T, Q, V and maybe others that I didn't catch.

Baggage allowance is 23kg check in plus carry on.

There's also some info here on pointshack too: American Express Velocity Platinum & Velocity Escape Cards

I would be very pleased if you use my link if thinking of applying for this card: https://www316.americanexpress.com/...merHub&MGMURN=AAAADgIRHh8TCg==&CPID=999999484

PER-SYD-PER definitely isn't on their map. I thought it was only the four destinations out of Perth?

I've been seeing a lot of talk about different fare types and those letters but I have no idea what they actually mean.
Doesn't appear int he recommended reading either as far as I can tell.
What do they mean?

No, the PER-SYD-PER is not on the map. But, it is allowed. The booking 'letters' refers to the seat 'class'. We should probably continue this out of the referrals thread.

Can also confirm that PER-SYD-PER is still available (redeemed flights on this route approximately an hour ago).

I haven't signed up for a new CC in a while, and this seems like a nice points haul along with all the other bonuses...

Can anyone comment on "Discounted international companion business class fares" and what that actually means in the real world? For example if you (as a savvy flyer) weren't planning to fly J would the discount be enough to get you too? Cheers.

Depends, but for me unlikely. Much better to buy during the rare business class sales. Per the T&C's, you've got to book for two pax, and you both pay 50% of the Business FLEXI (emphasis added). Fare pricing is at the J class of the Business Flexi type (most expensive), subject to availability in C class.

I had a quote on this back in 2013, SYD-LAX-SYD. I recall the total fare being for 2 pax being circa $13K, so $6.5 each. Not much of a discount and possibly in-excess of a sale fare.

Yeah right, doesn't sound that useful. Applying anyway as all the other things stack up nicely, fingers crossed it goes through smoothly.

Amex is pushing this one pretty hard, I've even had a bunch of referral cards sent to my in the mail to hand out!

I wonder if this could be a last push before they start cutting back on benefits due to regulatory changes.

FWIW, here's my link - help me get to J on my honeymoon please!

Got my card yesterday, thanks for the advice people. Looking forward to putting it on apple pay.

Anyone looking to sign up, you've got until Feb 2nd.
Here's my referral link if you want to throw 20K points my way when applying, would of course be much appreciated. Remember to use someone's referral, otherwise you only get 50K points yourself, not 80K.

Platinum Velocity is a great card. I'm very pleased I got mine.
For a Perth person it comes with the added bonus of a PER-SYD flight which easily covers the annual fee. Not to mention yearly statement credits & 3 points per $ for restaurants.
Between this and the platinum edge 3 points per dollar can be had on a lot of things.

I just came across the below great resource (PDF) for award redemptions on Singapore Airlines.
It basically summarises the points needed for differing classes of travel to/from Singapore. The 'points required' look like the include the online booking discount.
Remember, 80,000 velocity points equates to 59,259 kris flyer points.
With a some additional spend, I'm planning to use the points from my plat velocity for a suites ride from HKG-SIN-SYD which is the same number of points as a SYD-SIN flight, but of course you get another 4 hours of luxury (about 12 all up) as well as the first class lounge experience in Singapore.

Of course I would be extremely grateful if anyone was to use my referral link should you decide to sign up to this card. :)

If anyone is looking for a fantastic AMEX card with great benefits, I have this card and love it.

You get : 80,000 Velocity points PLUS one free domestic return flight PLUS two lounge passes. Plus you get all the usual Amex bonuses like 3 x points for restaurant spend (including places like Maccas and KFC etc so a bit of a bargain to get 30 Velocity points for buying a big mac and fries!), and their awesome statement credits which give you regular money off spend at selected merchants.
Annual card fee $349 (charged on your first statement) - which is pretty much totally offset by the free Virgin flight so it's not that much in the grand scheme of things considering you get 80k Velocity points as well.
And if you sign up using THIS LINK I get : 20,000 Velocity points - which will help me fly to the UK to visit family in 2017 so I would be eternally grateful to anyone who signs up via my link.
