Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

For the price, it's hard to go past wynns cab sav with the langtons rating! I personally prefer WA cab sav and there's a few good buys around like the vasse felix filius. I haven't tried them yet but expect West Cape Howe Cab Merlot should be good ($15) and the yarra valley Dominique Portet ($20) from langtons.
Tried my first West Cape Howe Book Ends Cab Sav last night (2012 vintage). Really enjoyable and I think around the $20 mark.

Thanks for that, might grab one of those and a the secret one from winemarket. The heat is really putting me off though, my delivery is always end of day, and everything comes warm from the postie!

Hands down Dominique Portet cab sav is value for money, tasted it when I visited the winery recently, fantastic wines, great French family who owns the vineyard who have a great French style of winemaking

Plenty of deals around if you keep your eye out e.g.
- the Blue Pyrenees 2013 Cab was available for $11.50/bot just before Christmas from Cracka ($50 off voucher, plus $30 back from Amex)
- the 2013 Houghton CW Ferguson cab blend is available for $25/bot now from VM
- the Wynns 2014 Black Label was available for $22/bot (WineMarket) and $23/bot (TWE CellarDoor site) late last year
- the Grant Burge 2014 Filsell was available for $20/bot from WineMarket late last year (use 20% off code - WMVISA)
- the St Hallett single vineyard 12-pack (Mattschoss, Materne, Scholz, Dawkins) is available for $22/bot from LionCo Den (PM me if you need an invite)

St Hallett Dawkins is no longer available from the Den, unfortunately. Actually, only the Scholz is still available ... Is it as good as Dawkins?

Is that a good buy?, it's the first expensive wine I've bidded on and won....forgot I had bidded on it earlier today...goes for $133ish at DM so I guess it isn't too bad? I haven't received it yet, is it too late to post in share a case thread?
cheers[/FONT]

This is a fair price. I have seen it a little cheaper. It's often discounted?

It often features in mixed packs from dan murphys.

I had the 2009 in late October. It is a sensational wine with great balance between oak and fruit. It sits for five years before they start selling it, so as an eight year old now, it is still a baby. However, definately have one soon to back up my thoughts. Put the others away in a cool spot. The words that appealed to me on the back label were "big, soft in tannins".

It's scrumptious and at $71, great buying.

ok thanks
Had a lot of buyers remorse when the email came through...feel a bit better now....lol
It's coming from langtons. Should I pop one open to make sure it isn't off or something?

I just missed the 2002 tonight. I was bidding similar amount (inc the 16.5% fee). Are you in Brisbane? I'd buy one if that makes you feel better :)

I was after the voyager estate but they all went for what I consider top dollar compared to usual. Auctions are hit and miss each week. I suppose perhaps restaurants buyers sometimes bid or something like that. Lots of people also wanting to restock their cellars after drinking season over holidays.

Hi All
Just looking at the top vivino list's for this week
and the Curtis Family Vineyards Cavaliere McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015 comes in at a whopping 4.9/5 !
I did some reasearch and it looks like it is this one?
https://www.winedirect.com.au/super-premium-2015-mclaren-vale-shiraz-6-pack-nov-offer-2
Can anybody confirm? cheers

ps: what is your best sub $25 quaffer? Mine would be the Xanadu Cab Sav - I managed to get a stack when cracka wines had the $50 voucher, and AMEX $30 back
But looking for other similar wines at that price point?
cheers

I got two bottles of the Cavaliere in a mixed pack from WD before Xmas and cracked one at a friend's place as one of our contributions on the day (the 25th), opened it at home prior to going out and gave it a prolonged decant before returning it to the bottle. Hmmm, it was OK, certainly not worthy of the bowing and scraping accorded it by WD who made it sound ridiculously good, quite closed in terms of nose and palate, mid-weight (although others may argue it's a little heavier) and to be perfectly honest a tad underwhelming. Obviously that summation is at odds with the Vivino accolades but as others on here will attest I'm a harsh marker! I've put the other one down (yes it is under cork) and will give it another whirl in a few years time, not a 'bad' wine but as usual I would feel cheated had I paid the RRP of $70....

PS I still think you can't go past the Maverick 2015 Cab Sav VM have been peddling on and off in the last year, I think it was around $10 and bloody brilliant value for money, and me a confirmed Shiraz drinker!

It's like the cat is out of the bag lately re. auction prices. A few months ago I was picking them up for pennies. I actually opened one a couple nights ago and will finish it tonight. It's quite a big wine

The Ironscraper is one of the more elegant examples of Shiraz I've had in recent times, it oozes complexity and, unlike many wines actually builds in its flavour profile with each sip, an extremely generous AFFer sent me one amongst some other noteworthy bottles and it really is worth seeking out....

It's a good wine and $71/bot is a good price. In the past year, seen it for $79 direct from Accolade and $65 from MyWineGuy (with a discount voucher). Obviously a bit more risk buying from the secondary market though.

Thanks for the replies guys
Langtons is pretty reputable right? Do I need to open one bottle and taste it to make sure its all good?
cheers
