Thanks for the replies guys
Langtons is pretty reputable right? Do I need to open one bottle and taste it to make sure its all good?
cheers

Auction stuff isn't gauaranteed by Langtons - you don't how the bottles have been stored. Additionally if there are flaws (like TCA/Brett etc) Langtons won't refund you for auction purchases.

Retail purchases they stand behind like any other retailer - if it's faulty they need to replace/refund you.

That said, the vast bulk of what've bought at Langton's auctions has been fine. Probably ~5% dud rate, and that predominantly in the older stuff (15+ yo)

The wine was purchased through auction? If so, you're taking all the risk. If its been stored poorly, cooked etc but luck. That's just the risk of auction. If the wine is corked (TCA), then you can try contacting the winery directly. They are usually pretty good at dealing with things like that.

Where you might have some recourse with Langtons if the wine isn't as stated. Ie, ullage is below the stated level, cork is weeping or protruding etc. I don't believe Langtons do anything to verify provenance.

Ahh ok thanks, yes it was an Auction
Too late now..I'll taste one when it comes and fingers crossed.
Hopefully since it was a 6 pack, it's come from someone who cares about their wines!

What's everyone's impression of how much of Langton's stock comes directly from the wineries?

Other than a few wineries, I don't think much does.

Langtons do offload some of their retail stock through auctions - usually a few months after they first advertise them (and often when the new vintage is released). Typically you can get it via the Classic Unreserved Weekend auction.

The Dannys dogoloue arrived in the hermaphrobox and has a wine I thought was supurb in it. St.Hallets Western Front , vintage 2015.

Had one in December probably out of a 6 case DM assorted, and it was beautiful. Twelve bucks neat, I suggest you go out and try one as it surprised the hell out of me as to how good it was.

It hss been too warm recently to pull out my red, but have enjoyed some older, cheapy white quaffers.Plus a few variants of sparkling from the Cellarmasters binge late last year. I have found a lot of the fizzy stuff to be a little too fizzy, and a bit tangy which obviously detracts. Let them rest up and settle is the story. Or drop in a sugar cube flooded with Angostura and that usually helps.

Concur it's good value. Bought the "Unmissable Red Six Pack" for $120 featuring Grant Burge Shadrach as well.

Im a big fan of the Xanadu 13 Cab too, although I reckon it needs a bit more time personally. The '14 Chardonnay is excellent too.

Are you looking for other good Cabernet around that price specifically? You can usually find Wynns Black label at that price if you hunt around at the right times. Probably better than the Xanadu if you go with the 08,10,12,13 vintages.

Have a few of the 05 Xanadu CS which from memory of a year ago seem to be remarkably slow to mature. Found a couple of 98 as well but IIRC from a couple of years ago they will be past there best now. Cork was in excellent condition though at that time. Ullage in the two remaining is about 6-7mm above the shoulder.

MyWineGuy (sister site of Cracka) have been offering the 2010 Meshach for $79.99 (and as low as $76.99) on and off for ages. I bought some when they had a $50 off voucher going IIRC
