Double SC Promo [December 2010]

Is there a way to check which promotion one is on?

Just re-did the survey, and found my answer:

Qantas Frequent Flyer number 5xx_xx_ has already been registered to receive DOUBLE STATUS CREDITS.

This means, you will already automatically earn DOUBLE STATUS CREDITS for any booking you make between 1 and 21 December where travel is completed on an eligible Qantas International flight between 1 January and 31 March 2011.

This promo is interesting, it represents the first and likely only opportunity I'd have to move up from QP NB to QP PS. I have 170 SC now, and I'm thinking about doing a flight to Singapore, via another capital city, which will net me 140 SC with the double points promo. Just enough to get me over the line!

Only bad thing is the flights are ~$1500 and I don't really 'need' to go. Is the upgrade from NB to PS worth much if one has QP membership? I'm not likely to fly enough in the next year to retain PS (not unless another double SC promo comes up). My SC's run out at the end of January :-/

About the only useful thing is advance seat selection, and while you can only select seats far down the aircraft, at T-80 you can easily move very close to the front, as I have done before, but I don’t think this is possible with QP NB? If it is, then there’s really not a whole lot to strive for.

There’s also 25% bonus points on certain services, but you’d have to be flying further than BNE-SYD or even BNE-MEL to make it worthwhile.

Why would an FJ flight number on FJ aircraft receive double SCs on a QFF promotion?

How restrictive are these airfares? Is it possible to change free of charge? I would not risk it....

Technically the Fiji flights are codeshares, in the many TR’s the boarding passes have FJ flight numbers, but in manage my booking you should see both the FJ and QF flight numbers.

I was a little dubious on if they counted for this promotion too, but they counted for the last one so I assume that’s all we know, unless markis10 can shed any more light on them. Perhaps a call to QF is needed to confirm the international flights will qualify or not.

Is there a way to check which promotion one is on? Some appears to have double everything but I have a feeling mine is just for international flights only.

Does it not say so in the email you received? Mine specifically says double on international flights.

If you won't be flying a whole lot I would say no, it's certainly not worth any $$.

Hi JohnK

I will give them a call tomorrow to see why it has now reverted to a FJ number for the NAN-SYD leg

If you don't normally do enough flying to earn Silver status then it is definitely not worth spending $1500 to earn Silver status. Your Qantas Club membership should be more than enough.

From the email

Double SCs on Qantas international flights said:
^ Recipients of this email will be eligible for double Status credits by registering for this offer via the above registration link in the main text area of this email and then by booking any Qantas International flight with a Qantas flight number where Status credits are normally earned between 1 and 21 December 2010 for travel completed between 1 January and 31 March 2011. This offer is not transferrable. Qantas may extend the offer. Extra Status credits will be awarded within 6 weeks of travel.
My bolding. I believe those conditions about as clear one can get and FJ flights or even QF codeshares are not mentioned and I would expect are excluded from this promotion.

It just needs to be a QF flight number that earns SCs, which the NAN legs do, and whilemyou may see a FJ itinerary in your bookings, you will also see a QF one and it credits as QF when the points come through. Note the lack of the word operated in the terms and conditions.

I think I might still phone, as "any Qantas International flight with a Qantas flight number" worries me. It’d be an Air Pacific International flight with a Qantas flight number!

I wondered this too. Normally you get the "QF marketed and operated" line, this is rather vague and arguments could be made either way as to what does and doesn't qualify.

I'd like to think anything booked on the QF website with a QF flight number would suffice, but we all know the joke about "assume".

A codeshare is a QF international flight, so again by definition should not be an issue, having virtual flights was the reason codeshares came about in the first place, I think so long as its a QF flight number and earns SCs it meets the criteria, including domestic legs of an international flight. By all means call and check and let us know!

I called up and was told as long as there’s a QF flight number. They offered an example that I could be flying Emirates, but if I had a QF flight number it would be acceptable. Also make sure you keep any eticket that proves it’s a QF flight number just incase, but I think that’s a given here.

I didn’t check on the domestic thing, as I didn’t see your post :p

Ok so I haven't rung, but went back into my bookings, and both legs appear as 2 bookings with 2 different reference numbers, however the ones where I have selected seats are the QF flight numbers, so would think it was all good

I did the NAN J Run earlier this year and it's not a problem earning the double SC's on the code-share.
I called QF about the same issue (FJ flight numbers/flight code in the booking), and was told it was so that FJ knew about the bookings. Sure enough, a few days later the QF Flight numbers appeared online under my bookings.

You can book this flight through FJ solely (international sectors), and it's a lot cheaper. By booking through QF and flying on the code-share, the extra money goes towards the points and SC's (and profit l guess) for QF. I also enquired about this at the F Lounge in SYD and was told not to worry about it. All good.

Enjoy your trip jdlover23

Well QF won this round... booked the next trip a little early.

Jan will net over 1000 SC in a week. Nearly 3000 SC for the year... better be a nice christmas present from QF

I’d love to know if that first 1000 is affordable :p and if there are any more seats left for a travelling companion ;)

Technically it's only ~600. Double SC promo is kicking this along... I'll tell all at AFF drinks in BNE next week

Hi to all,

I just rang qantas to ask about the SC i would earn for Sydney - Nadi return and the girl told me 160!

I would like to know if this is correct?

She also told me the fare was $2,800.00

I would like to use this offer of double credits so if anyone can clarify this for me I really would appreciate it.

Thanks.

She is correct, and depending on the time of year the fare would be right as well, discount business at $649 each way is only available on limited seats, not for every J seat.

As for the SCs, its 80 each way which is doubled if you got the promo, travelling via BNE and MEL to NAN through SYD is a lot more often for the same fare.
