Hi Glenn,

BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE is the very popular ;) NAN run at AUD1330. Bookable on the QF website through International Multi City booking.

Millie,

Why do we start it in Brisbane??

I am in Sydney.

I would have to fly to brisbane first - correct?

Its $649 each way whether you fly direct ex SYD, however if you depart BNE the fare allows you to go via SYD or MEL or both, making it excellent value for money.

OK I think I have it worked out!

I book Bris - Nandi return via the qantas site and pick the flights going via sydney or melbourne.

Then I make a separate booking to pick up the flight to Brisbane to connect with the Bris - Nadi sector

is this correct?

My conundrum now is that I have talked myself back into WP somehow.

I think flying with kpc in March to help re-qualify Gold makes more sense, however, if I moved this flight forward to January I’d have the 520SC + existing 725SC and 30SC soon-to-be-booked for mid-Feb, leaving a shortfall of 125SC. Year ends end of Feb.

What to do… is it worth using points with a JASA to get there, or just stick with Gold. I’m not asking to be talked into it, but I’m also not asking to be talked out of it :p

If you hit WP now - you could not set foot on a QF flight for 12 months and still be Gold... whereas if you use NAN as a requalification flight and don't requalify for Gold then you're Silver next year.

Considering QF will give u 1 comp year at Platinum, you can hedge your bets that making WP now will really mean 2 years of WP ;)

My opinion is that is you are talking about have to burn more points just for it, then it isn't worth it. if you aren't travelling overseas next year then there probably wouldn't be too much to gain out of it. Ok yes there is the J lounge and extra points, but you need to weigh it up in terms of points burnt too

IMHO of course..

Booked.:shock::confused:

QF391 12:55 Syd 18:45 Nan

Sun 27 Mar

$1340.18 AUD for 520 SCs (dble SCs promo)

Addendum: Never been to Nadi before...maybe I should have one full day there to look around.?
I've delayed my return by a day (now Mon 28) so that I have a full day to look around, and maybe visit the surround islands. The Hilton has a points stretcher award for my dates so instead of 35000 HHonors points a nite, it is only 21000...so I've booked 2 nights.:)

A tip from jdlover23; book both as one ways; the ex Nan on the Qantas Fiji website...you can knock off another $150+ off the ~ $1340 if you book it this way cf to an international multicity return from Australia.

I see what you’re saying, and it did take a while to tick over :p but I know I’ll be able to re-qualify Gold to Gold as 520SC’s is what I’ll earn from the flight and I’ve already got nearly 80SC booked (600SC re-qualify).

The second year of WP being comped is a big risk, though I would hope it happened if I did go that route.

My opinion is that is you are talking about have to burn more points just for it, then it isn't worth it. if you aren't travelling overseas next year then there probably wouldn't be too much to gain out of it. I’m sort of leaning this way myself, the way I see it is I don’t know where I’ll be travelling next year. Ideally I’d love to visit family in the US and Europe, but I mightn’t do either, depends how busy I am, who’s footing the bill etc.

If I did go to the US, I could very easily grab the remaining 800SC to get Platinum then I’d expect, too.

There’s also the best use of points to consider. Using the majority of my points now for a JASA to get to Platinum could leave me with very little to help re-qualify to any status in the future, while if I hoard them for a bit longer, then could go towards re-qualifying in 2 years time (should have Gold till Feb 2012, with March trip till Feb 2013, so if I need a boost in 2013 then can help me get as far as 2014).

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll talk myself in and out of it a few more times over the next few days, but I think I wouldn’t be making use of the points in the best way if I used them to get to WP this year.

Thanks for the help both of you though :p

I’ll be at the Hilton in 2 weeks time, so would give a second night a miss for myself and just aim for a cheap room near the airport, if I joined you on some of the flights ;)

I checked out the South Pacific/Fiji Qantas website and couldn’t find a multicity tool to enable me to get the same route back. I’d be interested if it were possible, but I can’t work it out

You dont need to, a O/W to BNE will often show routings via the SYD/MEL hubs.

Good point. If you hit WP, then lose it, you'll drop to SG, and still have lounge access on OW network. I say go for it. It's only a measly 125SC's to get Sam.

I tried that and for the March dates above I was seeing ticket prices well north of $600…

I did look at it that way, but no travel for 2011 is even planned yet, just ideas of what I’d like to do, with no financial backing. So at the end of my WP year in 2012 I’d have far less points to work with to re-qualify for SG (let alone WP) using JASA’s, or choosing to keep my points I’d have plenty available to me by the end of my 2013 year to re-qualify for SG ;)

I don't know anyone who made WP and wasn't comped a free year.... ;) So it's my understanding you get 1 comp, either at WP or Gold (whatever comes first).

Keep in mind you're on a frequent flyer forum... so nobody is going to talk you OUT of going for WP

Sam, most of us are aware when we buy tickets at overseas web sites they are priced in local currency:D:D:

Good post Markis!
check out the 5th option down. Jetstar and more expensive than the other QF on offer. WTF?

Oh god!

I’m really losing touch this week!

Thanks for pointing that out. I think I need a drink… oh look I have one :D

Haha I realise that :p now...

Now, you might have to make 2 separate bookings to get such a good price Sam.

However, if l remember correctly (Markis10, help me out here), l am sure that l read somewhere previously in this thread (probably Markis10's post) that if you do the overnighter from MEL and do a departure the next morning @0900, it's the same plane. So, you basically have zero chance of missing your plane, even though it's on separate PNR's. Feel free to correct me, l am not 100% sure on this.

It's not the same plane as ex MEL is a 767, while to SYD it's normally the 744, having said that you do have three or so hours gap so there is every chance you will be in the lounge at MEL when it becomes obvious that you are not going to make it, and in a position to do something about it.

Just a heads up, FJ are shaking a few things up lately with their new CEO (or whatever he is), QANTAS is about to lose another ground handling contract that being FJ.
FJ bosses want to cut costs and save more money, wouldn't be suprised if FJ/QF stop their codeshare deals soon.

Interesting, but don't QF still have their share in FJ?

Yes, but are trying very hard to get rid of it.

Offtopic:
In a way this just comes down to the QF bean counters and them removing more work for their employees. Just like QF used to do the ground work for JQ at SYD international, now aerocare.

I see this quite a lot when researching flights to/from SIN and using the multi-city booking tool. Sometimes the JQ flights use up all recommended options and I need to select schedule instead of price and select all sectors individually.

I am totally stumped as to why QF would display JQ flights on their website. I wish there was an option to turn these flights off.
