Double SC Promo [December 2010]

Just spoke to QFF Customer Service centre , asking them about me not receiving the Double SC Promotion , after a long hold I was told that I was not eligible.

Then I asked the nice lady why . What is the reason why I am not eligible ? And what is the selection criteria ? After a 14 min hold I was told that , i am not a selected customer , only selected customers get this e-mail.

It is just not fair , if other NBs get it then I should also get it. Done see the point in discrimination when it comes to specials and promotions among people who hold the same status i.e NB . I would totally understand if it is only a SG or PS promotion.

It is down right disgusting when one NB gets the email and other NB does not.

Red Roo , please think about your marketing / customer satisfaction strategy.

Would be interested to know the people now receiving promo were you offer the promo earlier this year - I was offered promo earlier but so far not this time

I wasn’t offered the promo earlier this year, and my initials are S H. I received the email at 4:20:47 PM AEST.

Yes, mind you that routing just gives you an easy trip with time in the Flounge if a WP. If you look at the normal routing BNE MEL SYD then NADI, that will get 260 SCs each way or 520 return with the double offer for the same cost.

Such a routing would leave me to earn 155SC on my own, and sure such an amount could be earned on a LAN to AKL run (not enough points to contemplate a JASA), that would bring the cost of membership up to $2000, and to me it isn’t worth it, as I really don’t fly that much.

That might devalue Platinum to some, but I would have got there just to be there and then probably (most likely) had a dull flying year, and not used it. So $2000 isn’t worth that.

I could go on but when I got to "F" all I could think of was "FFS - get a life!"

I hope that wasn’t directed at anyone

Sure, you should get what you paid for, we all knew what the SC were when we booked the ticket before the offer, but I can’t imagine that you’d be jolly after finding out that now anyone else that bought the same ticket would be getting double the rewards.

That’s upsetting, especially to people here who strive to attain status, you should know that, or have you been asleep all this time?

What a silly question!

You can never please everyone, trying to is stupid. They obviously have a criteria that you didn’t meet. I’m sure the majority of their customers are satisfied, and I doubt the ones that feel burned because they can’t earn double SC’s don’t weigh too heavily on their mind.

I see you’re NB, they recently lowered the Silver qualification target, will you now hit that in a normal year of flying? What forward booking do you have and what status will you hit before the end of your membership year?

In 2009 I was going to aim for Silver, but couldn’t justify the cost so stayed as QPNB, I didn’t get the double SC promo. This year I hit Silver and my forward bookings will make me Gold by the end of the year, the amount of flying, particularly on QF (about 90%), and the fact I’m still heading up could be a factor, but I don’t know.

I know there are some NB’s who got this, I wonder how many flights they took, what carriers they were on, etc. It might be a bit hard to collate all that info.

but the truth is I am just confused.

Moody. You probably got it right with the highlighted part of your statement.

I'm assuming you ARE confused. This is a forum for frequent flyers. I am 100% certain that people who missed out will get a bit annoyed when an offer is given in such a seemingly random manner.

I am only speaking for myself here and no other member/guest has to agree with any of my opinions.

I am self funded so I can choose to take my travel spend anywhere. I will easily get PG so I don't really have any incentive to keep flying with QANTAS during the next few months. I have Gold with EK so I will now go for top status with *A.

I am not sure the best way to do this yet but I have 2 trips to Europe, 2 to Asia, and 2 Trans Tasman in the next couple of months. I think that will almost get me there.

How do you know what the other NBs flying patterns are, maybe they had status and then had a quiet period?? ringing up and complaining about not getting the promo is not exactly going to increase your chances for future selection, in fact your account may be flagged for auto opt out as a result.

Before also complaining you might also wish to check your profile:

I didn't complain , I just asked questions very politely.

I did get this offer. It wont do me a lot of good, as my OS travel is one flight to either Europe or USA (in 2011 South Africa) in the second half of the year, along with a few trips to NZ. I may go to NZ in January, so maybe some small benefit there.

I didn't get the double SC earlier this year. That one would have delivered me a lot of benefit, as in that period I'm generally flying 1 - 3 times every week in a combination of discount y and flex saver. I still retained WP with 5 SC's to spare, thanks in part to AFF and JASA's.

Swings and roundabouts. If you get a promo and it works for you that's 's great, but as they're obviously either random or working to some algorithm we'll never understand, no point getting too upset over it or trying to puzzle why you missed out.

I'm not that fussed that I didn't get the offer to be honest, and I also happen to be booking MEL-SFO in the next day or two.

If Qantas took something away from me I'd be upset. As it stands I'm getting exactly what I pay for - anything on top of that is a nice bonus.

Well, I didn't get the offer but I'm not vexed at all. Not getting the offer might be in part because my PS status was extended to next year's review date at only 50 SC and I didn't accrue any more before my year finished two days ago.

Swings and roundabouts :)

Does that make it down right disgusting that you didn't win the Lottery but someone else did?

C'mon. I was targeted for this promo and probably won't be able to take advantage of it. I just completed a lot of international travel and was looking forward to not spending time quite so far from home for a few months, so it's useless for me. I've never been targeted for anything previously, as NB, PS, SG or WP, but I don't resent people who get the offer, I just get jealous.

If you want status, earn it the hard way. These promos are just a bonus in your quest to rise up the ranks (and incidentally, I got the offer a few days after re-qualifying for platinum until 2012). The email did allude to me reaching PG status though so they obviously want me to try for it (no way i'll make it by end of Feb and i'm not going to try).

Well yes it does. - and it is not the lotto , I am not betting on any winnings , I think very member at their respective levels (status's) should be treated the same, given similar products , offers , opportunities ... treating them any different without justification is not right... is it good ethical / transparent practice ??

Just my angry / frustrated opinion.

Every company segments their customers nowadays for offers...eg.

Woolworths - targeted emails with bonus points on nappies for some, shavers for others
Amex - targeted programs to increase cc usage (eg current 250pts promo)

Just live with it, and hope next time your number comes up

I think you'll find the Bronze members who received it were treated the same. A bronze member who travels with Platinum members on 100% of their flights is not the same as a bronze member who travels with other non-status members.

You would be daft to think Qantas only has 5 kinds of customers (NB/PS/SG/WP/CL).

Well said.

QF are obviously not going to target NB only, nor are they going to only specifically target one other exact tier.

It's marketing, not 'give all NB's the same offer'.

If you do feel hard done by, you're welcome to feel like that, but QF have every right to do what they want with offers. Be thankful they give them to anyone, even if it's not yourself (and did you check your preferences like someone else suggested to do?).

I would have rather QF offered this 3 months ago than today, but I don't go off at them for doing it when they did.

whats the routing on this trip?

I just did a quick look then, JASA from BNE to NAN looks to be around 160k points, and would get around 400 SC (I worked that out on 40 each for BNE-SYD and then 160 each way for SYD-NAN with the international getting the 2x)

Hopefully I have this correct. I'm sure I'll be told quickly if I havent!

MEL-HKG-MEL JASA in March ~150,000 points used
Earn 480 SCs (120 each way * 2)
Earn ~20,000 points earned
Taxes included (I actually didn't realise this until it was all finalised).

That gives me the net points cost of ~130,000. I have booked this and out of curiousity the dates I'm using are now ~800,000 for return JASA.

Hopefully I haven't got this wrong but I can always cancel and lose ~$340.

Bonus SC does not apply to retrospective bookings, so only flights booked between today and 21 December will count towards this promotion.

Yeah, bummer for those of us with previously booked and paid flights in the offer period :( Maybe next time...

Anyone with a 'generic' link that a non-invitee could have a crack at? :D

Hard to get too excited, unless I'm missing something. The domestic JASA's seem to give much better value. Last year I did SYD - MEL - PER return JASA for about 60,000 points + $300 and earned 240 SC's.
This promo is great if you're planning to travel anyway, but the earlier double SC promo seems much more lucrative if you're chasing status?

I was planning to travel anyway so it comes at a good time. I'm sure everyone has their views on what points are worth (the taxes in your case) I don't think there's a significant value difference between the two scenarios.

The difference is that the domestic JASA costs less than half the points of the MEL -HKG, for the same SC's (without promo).

But I agree completely, if you're going there anyway then that's a good deal. I was thinking more of those doing runs just for SC's.

For 120000 points + cash you often can get ADL-MEL-HKG or even DRW-SYD-HKG, coupled with a DK $99 DRW special thats getting good bang for your buck even without the double SCs on the domestic legs.
