Double SC Promo [December 2010]

Whoa, and here was I thinking everyone received that email.

I wasn't planning to do anything about it, as I have enough paid bookings in place to be gold by May, but maybe I'll have another look.

The difference is that the domestic JASA costs less than half the points of the MEL -HKG, for the same SC's (without promo).

But I agree completely, if you're going there anyway then that's a good deal. I was thinking more of those doing runs just for SC's.

I see your point now - you're compating to the last promo where domestic was included.

I actually cancelled my existing award booking to make this one (so I guess my points fee is +5,000).

Anyone with a 'generic' link that a non-invitee could have a crack at? :D

The link is http://web.qantas.net.au/ff/edm/winback/qloy1022/survey.aspx

However it then goes on with ?ff=1234567&lk=BK0000000123456789&name=

Where the first number is my membership number and the second, perhaps a passcode? I have changed the numbers but kept the same length so you’re welcome to try a billion and one possible combinations ;)

The name field was not filled in.

This promo is great if you're planning to travel anyway, but the earlier double SC promo seems much more lucrative if you're chasing status?
I think you will find that a lot of people (on AFF at least) are going to do a lot of travel they don't need to do to get status. ;)

So I guess that is more revenue for QF and it would appear the promotion would be a success although a few people are going to be disappointed that they were left out. I was included in this promotion (not spending extra money to get something I have already) but there were times where I was not included in previous double SC's promotions and felt totally left out.

Went to work today and found I too had got the email offering double SCs.

Not sure I will be able to take advantage of it given I have already booked my overseas trip for Jan/Feb through QF.

And?

Actually, some may do less flying ....

Would be interested to know the people now receiving promo were you offer the promo earlier this year - I was offered promo earlier but so far not this time
I didn't get offered it last time, but I have since gone from bronze to silver. Not sure if that makes a difference of not.

Hi

Is anyone still receiving these emails or did they all come out at once?

I have hung off paying for plan A - my booked but unpaid scenic J tour from BNE to NAN - on the off chance one of these letters shows up (hasn't happened)

Just wondering whether its time to go back to plan A

Cheers skip

And?

True. A very, very few wannabees will be able to reduce their scum runs as they will obtain their hearts desire with less travel. I suppose that's a good thing (though JohnK and Qantas probably don't agree). But I think they will be heavily outweighed by the number of [redacted] chasing PS, SG, WP [redacted].

All in all a very cheap way for Qantas to sell a lot of seats in a hurry. Good luck to them.

I really couldn't care less about not being offered this promo-but then I have no status and only post flights to QFF if they are not eligible for AA miles.
But selective promos do have a negative side when loyal members keep getting annoyed by missing out-one of my major gripes with Hhonors. Also remember the AA double EQM promotion was available to all Aadvantage members.
Another reason there could be a more general annoyance this time is that QF had just had the general 90th birthday promo and announce this just after when many would have just booked and paid for their trips-by the way anyone win a free flight? Not here.

Actually, given my year end of Jan 31, I need to consider whether to travel in Jan to qualify for WP or in Feb/Mar to get a solid start on requalifying SG. Given there doesn't seem to be that big a difference between SG and WP, maybe the latter is my better bet.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Definite no brainer that one.

Travel in Jan and qualify WP. EVen if you don't travel at all in the next year after that, a soft landing from WP will still see you as SG the year after - so no different to staying SG and requalifying, except all the WP benefits you have for a year.

Hmmm, when I log into FF, there is a big ad that says "Find out how you can earn double status credits", then a button that says "More Detail". Only I can't click the button.

Maybe everybody will be getting the opportunity after all? It doesn't look like a targetted ad, but part of the general homepage.

You seem to have it in for people that obtain status via cheap status runs, or, those who want status for the heck of it. I see no problem in any of the ways of obtaining any status level, so long as it meets your requirements.

Your terminology is a little harsh. Do you resent people who obtain status cheaply as opposed to those who do 2100 SC's on MEL-SYD-MEL in discount whY 3 times a week? Considering we're a unified group of 'frequent flyers' here, I would have thought that there should have been some more loving than hating around here :)

I actually got this promo (received the offer on Wednesday 1 Dec).

This helps accelerate my PG qualification.

I was initially tempted and hyped up, but the offer doesn’t work for me, so I’ll stick with Gold.

Hi

Is anyone still receiving these emails or did they all come out at once?

While I wouldn’t want to give you the wrong advice, as the promotion started on the 1st it certainly seems like the emails have all gone out already.

I turned off my AdBlocker to see it, but couldn’t. Nothing for me, though I got the email.

+1 drewbles.

Moody by name and cranky by nature it seems.:)

Never heard of scum runs.....

We are all individuals but collectively we are a great and generally friendly community.

Some chase status... Some get it by virtue of their role. Some are just self funded leisure travellers.

No matter how/if you get status or where you sit on the plane... When it's all said and done we are pretty much equal. Almost without exception AFF'ers tend to be a friendly and VERY helpful bunch and we should ALL strive to keep it that way.
