Double Status Credits 2011

Im now at day 6 after my last status run flight, no bonus points yet, getting edgy.
It's been a week since my flights and I haven't received the bonus yet either. Not too worried yet but I'd like to get them before end of june since that's the end of my year and would rather not go chasing the credits for a previous year, especially since these bonus credits will qualify for platinum :)

My earning year ends 30/6. I am SG now I am tossing up doing a 360 SC run before end June to get WP. That would take me then to WP till end of June 2012. But if I waited to try and do it in say first three months ( july being a double earn month also) of next earning year and I qualified, would that then take me to WP till June 2013?

I'm one of the lucky recipients of the double SC offer, and am wondering whether the knowledgable FFs in here think using it on a semi-SC run would likely be worth it for me.

My normal annual QF travel is enough to attain / retain Silver, but no more than that: ~9 domestic trips for work, ~2 trips to Hong Kong for work and 1 international trip for a holiday (may or may not be QF), all in Y (normally discount Y).

One of my Hong Kong trips is coming up in a month or so, and through this promo and some cheap ASA fares I can earn a lot of SCs in return for what seems to me to be a pretty reasonable number of points. A couple of options are:

1) MEL-ADL-PER-HKG-PER-ADL-MEL on a JASA - 180,000 points for 960 SCs. This would almost certainly guarantee me reaching Platinum before my expiry date.

2) MEL-SYD-HKG-PER-MEL on a JASA - 120,000 points for 720 SCs. This may be enough to get me to Platinum before my expiry date, but would require another domestic JASA or two (or some sort of other SC run).

3) MEL-HKG-MEL on a FASA - 180,000 points for 720 SCs. Same comments as #2... obviously a less efficient points spend, but tempting as I've never flown F :-)

In all cases I'm only counting the minimum points cost for the ASA as my work will cover the cash component (as they were going to pay for Y anyway, and the cash component is less than this would have cost).

On to the point of all this: given that my normal travel isn't enough to retain Platinum (nor even Gold), I'm essentially looking at "buying" myself ~15 month of Platinum status and 12 months of Gold status for ~180,000 points.

What does everyone think - is this worth it, taking into account the relatively limited amount of QF flying I do?

I know it's somewhat subjective question, but as I've never enjoyed the benefits of Gold or Plat I figure other people's opinions will be better than mine :-)

You'll be spoiled for life whichever you do.

You will like the privileges of status so much you will never want to return to the land of no status.

Haha, OK - I'll take that as two "yes" votes :-) Would you think the same if I made a run for ~15 months of Gold instead of ~25months of Plat+Gold as per my OP?

Anyone else?

Any chance the bonus points apply to Jetstar flights that earn SCs? I figure not but still worth asking.

The bonus offer T&Cs say it applies to any flight with a QF flight number that would ordinarily earn SCs. So, I'd assume it would apply to any JetStar flights booked under a QF flight number which would normally earn you SCs, but not otherwise.

Jetstar now have an option on many flight types to pay extra to earn QF points.

I normally don't worry about chasing status - as long as I've got at least Silver for the extra baggage allowance I'm happy - I've never been into a QP even though I've been Platinum some years because I'm usually carrying a ton of camera gear as my carry on and so I'm always looking for the most direct route from check in to gate or gate to gate.

However I received the double SC offer this time and with my travel being mostly to the Middle East this year I'm probably only going to be reaching Silver by the end of my QFF year. For the first time in a long time I'm also going to be doing some leisure travel in the next 12 months - without the damn camera gear, so Gold or Platinum might actually be useful. I've just figured out what a JASA is so if anyone could suggest some good JASA's out of Perth or Adelaide/Melbourne I would be grateful - Gold or Platinum might be useful if I go QF to NY for September 11! Any help would be much appreciated for this clueless non-Qantas Pub frequenting traveler!

Yes, but the question is do these qualify for the bonus points? I think it's just QF flights for the double earn. JQ will just earn normal SCs.

I've got a JQ flight booked this weekend, will be happy to be proven wrong.

Have a look at this thread:

Good luck; hope to see you in a QC soon.

Just checked, mine have arrived after 12days, jumped from SB to SG in one hit.

I guess the big question now is - do I make the effort to do some extra JASA's and go Platinum? - or just do enough JASA's for Gold? I've read thru the first 20 pages of the thread about the changes to the QFF program that were announced recently and it seems like the benefits of being a WP aren't that great compared to Gold. I only ended my QFF year at 30 April so I will get 22 months worth of whatever I end up with.

Or 34 months of not having to worry about being a status lower than Gold ;).
