Double Status Credits 2013

Just a bit annoyed at QF.
Had a SC run planned before end April, to retain WP and asked QF to be included in the Double SC scheme.
Got told, Sorry You Do Not Quality.
I mean WFT?
I've been WP for 3 years straight and in the years before WP1 got very close to 3,600 SCs in one year.
But no QF love for me to keep WP.

So now I'll let them drop me to Gold and in the first few weeks of May do the SC run, blast past the necessary SCs to regain WP and probably WP1 in a few more months.
Silly people.

Not sure how you figure you can expect to be included in a targeted double sc offer by asking.

They are silly as the SCs I would have earned to retain WP would have burned off end April and for next year I would have had to do another bunch of SCs to retain WP. Now all that I need do is to do the SC earn in early May and I get the WP back for another year without losing the pre end April SC earn.

So QF lost money by me not paying them for the necessary flights to earn the necessary SCs pre end April, and that is why they are silly.

Of course, you'll have to earn an extra 200 SC to get back to platinum. You'll also drop to gold until you earn the required 1400 SC. that's a fair bit if flying at the gold level.

Had QF offered the double SC carrot, I would have paid them for enough flights to earn enough SCs to requalify WP before by SCs get burnt end April.
But without the carrot, the cost of the requalification SCs are twice as much.
I would rather spend that money starting 1 May as I have flights planned that I can do either April or May, which will earn enough SCs to requality WP.

It all comes down to how much I need to have WP status during May and until the new WP card arrives.
My analysis was, without the double SC carrot, it was not worth the extra cost.

So QF lost the extra money I was willing to spend in April to retain WP and not drop to Gold.

Sounds like a DYKWIA is bitter about not doing enough flights to retain WP.

No not at all.
Just a business decision based on money spent for value returned.
The double SCs would have tipped the balance to spending additional money in April, even through the SCs would get burnt end April.

The trip is a RWJ with a quite a bit of US flights on AA upgrade to F, so more than enough SCs to requalify WP.

I guess it's always easy to say if they had dangled the carrot, you would have reached for it... but if they waited for people to ask they wouldn't be in control anymore. They send the offers to who they deem worthy, and unfortunately sometimes that can seem like a stupid decision, but it must work for them. I'm sure occasionally they have people threatening to take their business elsewhere, but probably gain business too so if they lose 1 and gain another, they're in the same spot?

Luckily for you, this works out well, as if what you say is true, you'll make it to P1 pretty quickly in the new year, and get to keep it for the whole of the new year, plus another year afterwards. That's got to be a win! Let us know how that goes ;)

3,600 SCs will probably happen this next year but 2,700 QF SCs are not that easy to do.
Probably check out what Flying Blue has to offer now that I have their Gold card.

You are going to do the flights anyway so how has Qantas lost any money? Deferring the flights a month does not cost Qantas anything. The only one that has lost as far as I can see is you. You will have a bunch of flights (1400 SC worth) where your lounge access is reduced to a lesser lounge and you will not get looked after as well.

How are you the winner in this :?:

I have been flying a VERY LONG TIME.
Have never been looked after better because I was a WP.
Ok sure the FLounge is fantastic but on this RWJ trip would only get to use it once and that will require to fly out via Syd or Mel.
As for the travel in the states, it will be F but as you probably know even if AA do have a F lounge, it is nothing to write home about.
By the time I get to the EU, will be back as WP or will use my new FB Gold Card if the SCs have not yet caught up.

Ok here are the maths:

Need 750 SC to retain WP then 1,200 to retain next year, so I need to pay for 1,950 SCs in total.
Or
I drop to Gold and pay for 1,400 SCs to regain WP for my next 2 QF years.

So QF lost the flight fares to earn 550 SCs, if I do it all in May.
Don't think one potential visit to the FLounge is worth the cost of earning an additional 550 SCs.

Yeah it sounds like its just a matter of timing. It also sounds like you'll struggle to get to P1, but will have enough for Platinum. It would seem better to keep platinum this year then only have to get over 1200 SC next year, which sounds do-able and then not have to worry about trying to get the 2700 QF SC.

Edit: but you're sounding like you'll go past 1950 next year anyway, so they still get the same money. You're just moving the timing of the spend as best I can see.

.

Doing 2,700 SCs on QF metal is showing a lot of Love for QF.
Was a time I would NEVER fly on any metal but QF.
But times and airlines change.
As my travel is 95% long haul international, I see P1 as having very limited value.

P1 is mainly an international benefit from what I know about it.

Actually: Qantas marketed flights.

I got a DSC email today for new bookings made and flown up to June 30 this afternoon. This is great but I'm a bit confused because my membership year ends July 31 so the dates are a bit off. Anyone else get this offer which doesn't line up with their member year?

I have 485 left to hit gold, so would need a run from Sydney which gives at least 245 SCs. I'm seriously thinking of doing it and popping my status run cherry so I can get international lounge access on one world later in the year for a booked trip.

Woohoo!!! Finally received a Double Status credit offer till June 30. I have just re qualified for WP with a Sep 30 year end so might just scrap in for P1 and bring me closer to LTG. Not that P1 was a goal but might as well see how green the grass is on the other side of the fence. :)

I just got the offer too! But I'm only just booked a DONE4 (with a few QF legs) and a return MEL-SYD-JNB in whY! Oh well! Might look into a good value JASA!

Woohoo, *high fives * everyone!!

Can you tell I got this offer too? Lol.

Thanks Qantas, I'm feeling the love.
