I was able to speak with the staff on both QF81 and 82, as well as the lounge staff at ADL. They are sad that the flight has finished. There has been no formal recognition of the flight being dropped as far as most of them are concerned. Just a change in rosters that don't include traveling to ADL! The ADL staff have already noticed a drop in patronage as a result of QF dropping their only direct flight to Asia. SQ are moving to 14 flights a week so the market is there, QF just don't seem to want it.
Some of the staff on the two flights:
QF81
Captain Gordon Taylor
CSM Brett South
QF82
Captain Peter Huuk
CSM Simon Gobran
CSS Brad Kewley
The same aircraft travelled from SYD-ADL-SIN and then SIN-ADL-SYD:
VH-QPC, Broken Hill.
I would like to thank all the staff who made both flights and lounges an absolute pleasure.
SYD Flounge was extremely busy when we arrived as QF11 had been delayed, and there had been a cancellation the day before. The lounge staff managed very well getting meals and drinks out promptly. Leonie was very understanding when due to traffic delays guests and guestors did not always arrive together.
QF81 took off about 25 minutes late, but the champagne was soon flowing - even to some 'down the back' in plastic glasses! There were multiple announcements from the flight deck and the CSM mentioning AFF so we may pick up a member or two. MunitalP had started a First menu doing the rounds in SYD for signatures. I made sure it did the rounds of the cabin and flight crew as well. They were all very obliging. Thank you to Brett for the very special souvenir of the flight he gave me.
QF82 on Sunday departed half an hour late, but unfortunately made up some time in the air. Once again we got a mention or two over the PA. The menu did the rounds, including the Paxing flight crew from the SIN-ADL leg. The service was top notch again, and I am sure glasses were still being topped up as were being told to prepare for landing! We were kindly provided with J pyjamas as a memento of our flight.

But of course the weekend would not have been the same without everyone who shared it. Whether it was on QF81 or 82, or just for dinner in Adelaide. I am humbled at the enthusiasm that everyone showed for my crazy idea barely two months ago. Thanks PLCfor the impetus, Medhead for the Friday drinks and the ADL bus and Shintaro10x for helping choose the ADL restaurant.
QF81 and 82 will be missed in ADL, but this weekend will not be forgotten for a long time to come.
What a ride!
