Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Hi All,
I will be attempting my first ever ASA booking and need some assistance. I have read many pages on this post, and want to make sure I get the points / pay correct before I ring.

The flight will be for 2 people (wife & I), Brisbane to London return. We could go Brisbane to Paris or Rome if that makes any difference. Also happy to leave from Sydney if that is easier / better.

What combination of points / pay should I be quoted. I have 250K in points. Thanks.

You can no longer book a fare by this method.

You can book an ASA via the QF website, but marginal ASAs (MASAs), booked for lower points outlay into classic award fare classes, no longer exist since June 30.

Maybe my wording was wrong. I want to book a JASA. I note plenty of people have booked JASA flights after June 30. Is this correct?

No, nobody has booked a JASA post June 30. A JASA is just a MASA in J. You can book Points plus Pay which QF is touting as an ASA, but a JASA in the AFF world is gone, dead and buried.

The only people still flying JASAs are those who booked them prior to June 30 for flights later in the year. My last, for instance, will be in Jan next year.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up Mr_Orange. Looks like I missed the boat there. Points plus pay still looks an expensive option though.

Thanks Oz. I have QC membership. Will I have access to CX or Qantas lounges if I fly Businees HKG/CDG/HKG ? Not keen doing Y class HKG/CDG. Getting too old for that :) .

Thanks.

If you fly in business class then you will have access to all the OW lounges at all those ports.
If you fly in Y then the QC membership will only get you into QF lounges

Re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Thank you to Princess Fiona, I now have 2 First Class Tickets between Sydney and Dubai, at Classic Award Rates but with Any Seat Awards benefits. I followed the advice you sent. It did have some difficulties, we are going on to Europe on Emirates, but the Any Seat benefits only applies to Qantas metal, so, we booked the connections as Classic Award Seats. Fuel surcharges were minimal, (I guess Emirates gets cheap Fuel), and taxes included on the Any Award Points, so all up, we are ticketed all the way to Dubai, Manchester, Copenhagen back to Dubai and home to Sydney in F Class, except 1 Leg in J, for less than $300.00 (and about 800,000 Points !!

Has anybody had success with this procedure in 2014, I thought I read somewhere that this method of obtaining Award Seats has been stopped, is it true ??

You must have booked these prior to June 30th. That was the deadline. You can still book Classic awards or use Points + Pay for revenue fares. J/FASAs as we know them have gone.

You are right, then, most unfortunately had to cancel them due to Cancer surgery, I got all the Points back, but, what a shame it has stopped. Thanks.

Oh no! never cancel, always push the dates out in perpetuity ;)

Sorry to hear about the surgery though :( all the best!

We have one in April and another in June......April will be used as booked, however the one in June will be pushed out till Dec 15 or beyond.

You may only be able to push it back until 12 months from the date of making the booking.

Didn't realise that.

Is the "may only" dependant upon something? I thought these booked in a class that allowed changes for fees/points....

1. Flights can't go beyond the maximum time for the ticket (355 days from original ticketing date)

Really? I have 3 Syd-Bne-Tsv JASAs booked for March, and June x2 2015, that I would like to push out to beyond 31st October 2015, which is my new membership year...are you saying i can't?

Be careful on the changes you think you can make. I had a few issues with changing ASAs post June 30, with some conflicting opinions. I more or less got what I wanted in the end, but my guess is that even if you keep the same origin and destination, and try to change from transit to no transit, you may run into difficulty.

Looks like we'll need to slide a trip in before June - It's (J x 2) BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE so shouldn't be that hard to find replacement dates.
