Heads up about program changes

Well well well. As a hard earned discount Y platinum (1 JASA one way only) I for one welcome if I go to the F lounge and it's not full to the brim of people who earn squillions if points through their spending in their CC program, redeem them for FASAs and JASAs to get status (especially JASA status runs) and then fill the Flounge. There are very small and few rewards for having to travel as much as I do (and a lot of others) and getting a seat (and if the gods truly have mercy) and a massage in the flounge is great distraction from the hell that is Y long haul. Please QFF, clean out the xASA Platinums:-). Let the flames begin!

Over the last 4 years, I have averaged 2435 SC per year.
With the changes, and the same travel pattern as the last 4 years, I would get 1880 SC. Mostly due to flying OW partners on routes QF doesn't.

simple...because of the carrot on the stick to retain Platinum to get the extra tier points for Status etc . Now I have a hard look it is probably for me just a crock and I will still get the same benefits just using points for classic J seats or buying Economy and hoping to upgrade.
Platinum is/was nice but I am not going to slash my wrists when I fall back to Gold next year etc

Yes, I agree with your logic. The carrot on the stick to retain Platinum was a big part.

I need to work out my strategy for forward bookings and it's looking as though I should probably use up the points stash and then be more savvy with the cash in future.

You must be a very frequent flyer to get to WP in discount Y. To maintain status by flying under such conditions you certainly deserve to have access to the F Lounge for those overseas flights.

I hope for you that the program isn't further enhanced down the track, where you actually must fly F or J in order to access premium lounges. Then there would be even more room in there. ;)

Just curious:
When you go to the F Lounge and it's full to the brim do you know how many Platinums are there courtesy of ASA's ?
Do you know how many in the lounge have redeemed CC points for a Classic F Award? Zero status flyer who's bought AA miles and redeemed for an F AAward ? Bronze FF who has had a successful points upgrade to F? BA two for one Companion cert?

No flames just curious

Cathay have indicated for a SM they want the full 12 months history and any confirmed forward bookings with CX.

Not sure but have noticed over the past 6 months it's definitely more squeezie in the the flounge and if that was due to only $ paying customers, qantas wouldn't be up the creek as it is now :-).

There have now been more than 100000 views of this thread since it was created about four days ago. Amazing, although it confirms that QF FF points are a defacto currency, although arguably one that at times can depreciate more than some of the South American currencies.

So who do you consider is in there as a non-paying customer ?

Well, everyone there was either due to their status (Qantas/Emirates/OneWorld) or was flying F. You could say if the crowds were made up of those mainly flying Qantas, the airline would not be up the creek as it is now.

Ok so would you prefer the QF F Lounge with massage Neil Perry food etc or the EK lounge with none of the above. Could it not be that EK passengers have recognised how much better the QF F lounge is than the EK lounge. Now let me also say that in Singapore I am sure that EK customers are complaining of overcrowding given that a good number of QF customers feel that the EK lounge is better than the QF lounge. Now lets consider those flying BA or CX which of those two OW airlines has a better lounge in Sydney or Melbourne than QF?

Look at it again through different eyes if you are going via Hong Kong do you go to the QF lounge or the F Wing?

Like it or not people in the F lounge are entitled to be in it. I would suggest that those who earned it via MASA would be MINIMAL at best

Goodbye Joyce, you complete idiot. You have screwed over good people and a good airline. Rot in hell.

Is it unrealistic to expect QF not to continue to review the access rules?

Maybe we will need to actually pay an F fare after the next enhancement.

bUT DON'T FORGET they ARE THE ONES WHO CREATED AND PUSHED ALL THE ff "LOYALTY PARTNERS" TO EARN qff POINTS WITH. iF IT COMES BACK TO BITE THEM THEN SURELY IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE PERSON WHO LEARNT their RULES SUFFICIENTLY TO PLAY their GAME.
i DON'T HAVE ANY SYMPATHY........... THEY HAVE made $ 146 MILLION FROM THE loyalty PROGRAM. IT IS PROFITABLE AS IT WAS. aPOLOGIES FOR THE CAPITALISATION JUST REALISED

however was the profitability of the FF program to the detriment of QFi??

I think there are many who can be blamed for screwing Qantas over... it hasn't happened solely because of AJ.

He takes the $$$ for being the front man, he can take the flak. And he can go.
