Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

How come we read about lovely boxed dinners but never receive them flying WA Regionals. Getting very sick of mystery balls paninis instead of fish and chips or nice pastas. Our flights are 2 hours long and cost considerably more than eastern seaboard flights of similar distance and time.

I did PER-BME in Y a couple of weeks ago and would definitely have to agree. There was a choice of a beef sandwich or little panini thing, and the sandwiches were already taken by the time they got to the exit rows. For a 2.5 hour flight, the panini was quite underwhelming.

We get much better meals on shorter east coast Y flights...

Why is it cheaper to fly to Europe then Dubai?

This is something that doesn't seem logical, and it isn't really, but it comes down to competition, markets and how the airlines set airfares. Qantas has a lot of competition from dozens of different airlines flying with one stopover from Australia to Europe. Additionally, Australians travelling to Europe tend to be rather price-sensitive, meaning that Qantas must be competitive on price and compete with the plenitude of airlines flying via both the Middle East and Asia, or risk losing business.

Flights to Dubai are a different story. Only Qantas and Emirates offer the "convenience" of direct flights from Australia to Dubai - not many dozens of airlines. With much less competition, they can almost charge what they like. Further, traffic to Dubai tends to be more business-heavy than leisure-heavy and the average person flying to Dubai (as a final destination) probably won't be as likely to book with another airline just because they're $50 cheaper.

Instead of complaining if I had to go to Dubai, I would be taking advantage of the price anomaly and booking myself a trip to Europe, with a lengthy stopover in Dubai. ;)

Except for those who detest flying thru UAE. Some prefer the old Kanga route via Asia.

I no longer fly QF as my preferred carrier: only when there is a significant price difference compared with my other short-listed carriers.

Interestingly, my jet lag is worse when flying vua DXB compared with HKG for similar dep & arr times. Another reason to avoid the camel route

Qantas, Why is it that when I email you in January about problems I do not get a response and I do not get a response to a followup email sent in March? This is despite having FF WP status and you sending me innumerable emails telling me I am a valued customer blah blah blah.

In comparison I emailed another airline yesterday (where I do not have any status) and got a really helpful reply within a couple of hours.

I was reflecting on this the other day. My gut feeling has always been i prefer hong kong to dubai for transit. But then analysing it some more - hong kong often has hellish transit security queues where even when the dubai ones have looked long they still move pretty quickly. Then there's the lounge. Emirates first Lounge feels like an impersonal 5star hotel lobby rather than a more intimate lounge, but then i thought about it some more and decided each gate has its own seating, it's own bar with very attentive staff, and the shortest walk in the world between putting the wine glass down in said lounge and stepping on to the plane.

It's true that the main transit security points by the immigration booths can get busy, but the smaller ones down the length of the long pier are usually (if not always) pretty much empty.

One of the reasons DXB transit 'security' queues are faster is that there is no real security: several friends have inadvertently taken 500ml bottles of liquid through and not been stopped. HKG take this much more seriously.

the DXB flounge is noisy (where can you sit without an annoying TV in sight +/- earshot? and boarding from the flounge is always last which is not what I want if I am not in the F cabin. Then the lifts do not work properly for QF aircraft (a bit better on my last flight but I have usually used the stairs on the aircradft to get to the right cabin).

CK Flounge staff are also very attentive and helpful.

Probably asked multiple times but....

Colombo and Doha are not valid start points on qantas.com to book awards.

Why is it that the feedback page of the website is so useless? I had serious issues with chauffeur drive (including no driver) and tried to complain via the email option. Not only was there no suitable category, the complaint was diverted to irrelevant FAQs and required duplicate entry of information. I have now waited for 1 week and the only acknowledgement so far is an automated response sent 3 days after I complained!

My question is: Qantas why is it that feedback and complaints are so dificult to file and why is it so hard to get a response?

Tonight on Masterchef the contestants traveled to San Francisco. Two contestants who had won an earlier challenge were treated to business class seats as their prize.

Plenty of shots of the contestants enjoying the business class lounge... complete with white marble bench tops, waiters in crisp white tunics, coughtails being mixed in tall glasses, salt and pepper quid being served, and expansive views towards sydney while standing on hexagonal pattern carpet!!

Assuming the contestants aren't platinum - this clearly gives a misleading impression that you are entitled to the First lounge when traveling in business class. More concerning - why is QF unwilling to show the international business class lounge as being a suitable offering for J class pax?

That episode was sponsored by Qantas. So I would imagine some deal done.

Or Maybe they got guested in by Matt and George?.

Most average passengers will not know that it was the F lounge.

When did Qantas ever showcased economy class?. For the same reason If they can showcase a lounge it will be F.

That's exactly my point. Many prospective passengers wouldn't know it was the F lounge - so if they bought their once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon ticket they might expect to get the lounge they saw on telly.

A lounge looking like that could certainly influence the purchase of a ticket on QF over another carrier.

Amusing we never saw the trio lazing in F.:) Last time we flew with George in F, a few years ago, he slept all the way from LHR and never ate any QF food. Maybe some historical tiff with NP's food? :)

I thought the same thing! I yelled at the TV - "hang on, that is the SYD F lounge!"

Clearly they didnt think most people would not appreciate the nuanced difference, but they obviously did not take into account AFFers ;)

OR. Trent and Elise are QF WPs...?

As we all know from anything involving TV and QF any accuracy goes out the window. I'm surprised they didn't try to pass off the F seats as being those in PE.
