Hilton SW (MEL) will be rebranded to Pan Pacific from May 31 [now July 27]

Just asking as I would travel back (travel and time permitting) to a farewell function at HSW. During the past 12-18 months this hilton has been consistently the best Hilton for upgrades and status recognition across all the Hiltons I stay at. I place it in my top 2 along with Shinjuku, Japan.
I'm staying there again on 29th May and 8th June so will ask then. Unless it's delayed further the 8th will be my last stay with it as a Hilton as we'll be in Asia until 14th July.

I had a booking end of June and swapped it to the Crowne Plaza when close down looked like end May. I've just re-instated a cancellable booking for end June so here is hoping! Keep the insider information coming please!

I am back there early June, so I will see what goss* there is then.

*goss - slang for gossip. Not a typo of 'go'. Ahem! ;)

I'm back there this Sun. Will organise a final hurrah if the switchover is delayed to end June. Double reasons to celebrate.:p

funny what you overhear in Park Royal darling harbour exec lounge.

two senior staff from the new management group taking over HSW discussing changeover will take effect july 1st.

I'm at HSW now
word is June 30 but not confirmed
No training has started yet

Im here June 30 for a meeting (and Melb sydney on friday night at teh G !)

overheard some lounge staff talking
Seems they are not happy !
Info coming to staff seems to be about the level coming to the average punter

Buggerall people in the lounge atm
Food offerings not a good as i remember
Will be my second last night in this lounge

:(

its still my fave !

How the hell am I going to wrangle an overnight stay out of my final MEL trip for the FY in June . Miracles may happen, but I doubt it.

I'm like Matt_01, an AFF drinks on the deck (although that may be getting a little cold) would be nice.

Re: Hiton South Wharf To be Sold

Australia or Australasia? Hilton's or Hilton Brands? If Australasia and Hilton brands, then there's one (a Hilton) in POM and 2 x DT's for NZ IIRC.

Just (over)heard some Hilton staff talking about a new Hilton opening in Canberra in 2019. News to me but have others heard anything about this?

Re: Hiton South Wharf To be Sold

Looking at the Pan Pacific website it will open on July 2nd. I tried to make a dummy booking but it just told me to call their call centre.

Haven't heard, but it certainly makes sense. CBR hotels are ordinary in my books and it is the nations capital after all. Opening in 2019 sounds like a rebadge unless there is a new hotel already under construction. Question now will be which one?

Didn't get a definitive answer but there are signs in their booking system indicating June 30 being HSW's last day. If that is the case, can I please have a show of hands on who is interested in a June 30th catch up at hsw? We can meet the old and new management all in 1 stay then. If there's interest, I'll set up a separate thread for this.

I'm there already so I'm in
New management can tell me why i should keep all my bookings for the rest of the year

As a local, I'll in - are people looking to book accommodation there for that night, or just a catch-up in the bar etc?

Unfortunately I will have to pass. Work beckons. :(

Not me, I'll be elsewhere. I was never their favourite diamond in any case, so I wouldn't have gone too far out of my way regardless. I see this change as a chance to experience other better hotels in MEL without the HH handcuffs (and I don't mean DT either).

June 30th not gonna work for me but I'll be there on 25th and 26th if anyone's around. Can be nice to say goodbye to old management but don't really care about meeting the new guys as I'm not planing any future stays at Pan Pacific (apart from some leftover bookings made before the announcement).

25th will work in better for myself. At this stage not sure if I need to be in MEL or SYD on 26th so either will be a normal start in MEL or an early fight to SYD.
