Promised a newspaper but did not receive it on either day. It would also appear that Hilton Sydney are not part of the current double miles promotion, which is a bit cheap.

I'm Diamond, thanks to the DJ Status Match deal last year, and have stayed at several of the Hilton properties since (giving SPG a break....).
Hilton has impressed well, with the Executive upgrade, lounge access and breakfast comparing well to other programmes offerings.
I've stayed most regularly in sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. I had quite a run of receiving a welcome note, and an amenity (wine or fruit plate in SYD, chocolates in BNE), but over the most recent several stays in December and January have received nothing.
Having received the "better" experience I'm left feeling more disappointed than if I know they never had done so.

Is this a new policy from Hilton, or have others experienced differently?

I think that's always going to be a problem when they start strong.

I went for two little "weekend getaways" at both the HOTP and HSW just after getting diamond and it was great. Upgraded to suites at both including an amazing top level 2 bedroom penthouse at HSW.

Since then, it's just been "good". Hilton Bangkok and Hua Hin were pleasant but no special upgrades or service (although the lounge manager at Hua Hin is excellent). Ditto for the Gold Coast. Good, but not great.

It's official. Hilton Queenstown is now my favourite Hilton if not one of my favourite hotels.

And it's not because of my status. The staff here are just genuine and wonderful!

I really do not want to check out tomorrow!

I have to say I felt that about the Sofitel too - even with no status.

Don't!!

It always gets down to the GM of the property. Make contact on behalf of all of us. Thanks

I've already sent a rather lengthy email to the GM highlighting both the property and naming a number of excellent staff! :)

Thank you. Glad I read this, my partner (HH diamond) is just heading to SYD for a week and normally stays at the Hilton, but has opted for Westin instead . And will on next trip as well. Very stingy on Hilton SYD's behalf.

Agree with you here. I am HH gold and got upgraded to a lake wakatipu suite for a 7 nights stay. Great service too.

A great stay during which we were very well looked after, however as has been reported several times previously HHonors points have not posted and after two weeks they have not refunded my Hilton Macquarie 20% discount.

For the twelve hours we were there they looked after us quite well. Arriving a little earlier and getting to bed at a reasonable time would have been better but that was a Qantas issue rather than a Hilton issue.

The lounge in this hotel seems to be open nearly all the time (early until 1130pm) with food and drinks always available. The lounge service was brilliant and they looked after us very well and without any issue. having ice-cream, lollies and waffles available at breakfast was a novel touch.

Overall I'm very disappointed with Hilton that after three stays for the year that I have to chase HHonors already to get the points and stays posting correctly. My account currently shows:
  1. Three stays --- correct
  2. Four nights --- incorrect &
  3. 5435 Base Points --- incorrect.

Was booked literally one hour before arrival in the car on the way from Brisbane. I'd call it expensive but it was short notice.
Checkin staff member was friendly and helpful. Directions to the lounge was given and Breakfast at the restaurant offered (wouldn't have known otherwise). Room was generally quite nice, if not a bit of a complicated design. I'd say the Melbourne HOTP Relaxation suites are much better. No little welcome gift offered (I'd hoped for the bucket of beers!). Lounge was nice. View would have been great if it wasn't pouring. Self pour spirits were appreciated. Beer selection a bit average and only four of each were in the fridge at a time.
Breakfast was typical Hilton. Didn't see any real Luke Mangan influence and the service was slow (had to ask a few times for coffee).

Generally a good stay though, however I wouldn't pay $300 for it again.

thank goodness you weren't there for ex cyclone Oswald . Would have made for an interesting gstay!

The good:
Easily my best stay at Syd. Didn't have to haggle for the upgrade, though they didn't tell me it was an upgrade until I enquired near the end of checkin. Offered some nice freebies like shirt pressing that I didn't remember from last time I was there. No GM note, I think these are gone in Australia as I haven't had one for about 9 months or so. I taxed them a bit this time with requests for any number of things which were all provided, and really quickly too. Breakfast in glass was great, as always. Glass itself seems to have improved too for dinner meals, given a mediocre visit there last stay ... I almost didn't bother with them. The lounge 'upgrade' left me underwhelmed, in fact, I think I preferred the old layout. Standing room only during evening canapes, heard a lot of whinging from guests about the snack offerings, which were justified in my view. Concierge was fantastic, particularly Jason (good job!). [edit: should mention lounge staff ... really top notch, nothing too much trouble, weird requests always looked after]

The bad:
They charged me for an extended late checkout, could only offer 1hr despite hotel being empty at the end of my stay - that peeved me a bit after a weeks stay
Stingy with water. I know the bennie is 2 per stay, but goodness me. In Asia its 2-4 a day, no questions asked. In Australia these days you have to go to the lounge to get a glass of water :(

Bingo!

Especially in monsoonal Asia, too right that you'd get that much water every day. You should probably also carefully check every bottle that it is sealed (not resealed!) and the plastic inside has not started to melt into the water.

That said, bottled water is cheaper than chips in Asia. Plus, given that the water quality is understandably questionable in some places in Asia, that just adds to the sentiment and hence supply of bottled water.

I think on most stays at Hilton in Australia I've had the water replenished each day. If there is no water then I drink tea or just boiled water (if I don't want to wander to the lounge).

And I can get use to that room quite easily :p

finally a suite upgrade on my 3rd stay as being a DM.
was upgraded to an Executive Room the night before. then upgraded to the King relaxation suite on the day of the arrival. upon check-in at around 10.30am, only offered Executive Room.

asked the agent wether all the suites were completely booked and sold out, she paused and got nervous. i politely explained to her that this is my 3rd stay at HSW since being a DM, have never receive a suite upgrade at this property, would be grateful if there is one available. after looking at the other male check-in agent and some chit chat. she then said there will be a 5 hour waiting time, i said im happy to wait for one. she sent me to Executive Lounge to wait.

at the end the wait time was about 30 mintues and a King Relaxation Suite on 6th floor was mine for 2 nights.

again, no notes and no water.

newspaper delivered in the morning and turndown in the evening.

Two free bottled water.
Offered complimentary cooked breakfast in the morning but declined and had breakfast in the lounge.

I was given keys to another persons car at the valet when I checked out. It wasn't better than mine so that was disappointing...
