This hotel is great. It really does not feel like a grand with the service in the Executive Lounge. I was there convalescing with a broken ankle and the staff was amazing.
When they heard my original vacation has been cancelled due to my injury, Jessica, from the lounge went above and beyond to cheer me up.


And they made an amazing ice packs for me! Vacuum sealed. Which I know is silly but when the ice melts... you get the idea. Amazing staya

Asked at check-in about lack of upgrades last few weeks and was fobbed up with an excuse about a conference and the hotel being busy (rates didn't seem to reflect that). Was this time proactively offered highest room below suite. They were still selling suites but I didn't push it as I honestly don't care that much about them when travelling for work....usually happy with the Deluxe as they are well away from elevator, nice and quiet and with just a little bit of extra space (but not so I feel like I'm sleeping in a barn).

For my whinging, they do get the basics right. Service is always great and they put on a good spread in the Club.

I’ve never missed a suite upgrade at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne this year over 20+ stays. I’m lifetime Globalist but they have been easily the #1 hotel for upgrades for me this year.

Comments: Got a very good rate on the basic room (2 nights) through direct query with the hotel, along with promise of club room and access despite no status.
Club was a zoo on the one night I was able to utilise. But staff coped well. Wines were average but otherwise fine.
Impressed enough with the communication with management before and after the stay, so will be back.

Received: email in advance of arrival requesting arrival time and preferences, ocean front junior suite king, turndown (two nights out of three), slightly early check-in, late check-out (which I don't think I was entitled to as it's a resort) and, of course, it's all inclusive so all of that.

*This gin thing is interesting. Turns out, some time ago in some Hyatt in some country, I asked if they had gin (probably in the lounge). Apparently, it made its way onto my profile as a preference for the drink. I asked Phoenix to remove the reference. As much as I like gin, there's plenty of other alcohol I like too. For the life of me I can't work out which hotel it would have been. It only would have been a simple 'You don't happen to have any gin, do you?' But it seems it was enough to stick. Good thing I didn't ask for whipped cream and chocolate body paint.

Received: advance email requesting preferences and arrival time, club deluxe harbour view (the sole remaining suite was located adjacent to Zephyr and has considerable noise issues), lounge access, late check-out, evening turndown.

As a side note, this property charged my brother-in-law a credit card surcharge for his AP booking. No issue with that - except it was neither disclosed at the time of the booking nor on the confirmation email. In other words, they charged his credit card an amount he didn't authorise.

Received: King club room, 9th floor, bottle of wine, two welcome notes (one formulaic with my full name, one hand written note from the GM using my preferred shorter name).

Given the stay was Friday to Sunday and that I have no status still with the chain, I was pleased to have the confirmed upgrade and saving over $200 from the price of a club room at the time. Wine a nice bonus, and more than I often get with other chains where I have top status.

Lounge was better this time, including some hot food and better wines. Room service was also better and there was clear advice of what was open, what wasn’t and any services that wouldn’t be available (unlike my last stay - so credit to the hotel for responding to feedback).

This hotel doesn't adhere to the spirit of the loyalty program. The true entry level suite - regency suite king - was available but I did not receive it because it's considered a "premium suite". I gave them a mouthful, cancelled a future stay and won't return.
