Re: HSBC QF Platinum - 20K points (+2 QP passes) - $199 Annual Fee [extended] to 30/0

what's everyone doing with this card after the sign on booty...? Is there value in this card to keep it past the first year...?

The 2 points per $ on overseas spend is useful to me. I'm in two minds at the moment. I was going to keep it along with the Amex Ultimate card and the Citibank Business gold card and logically that is what I should do. The other alternative is to keep the Plat charge card, Ultimate card and Citibank business gold card, but that is quite pricy.

The "overseas charge" as a separate line item on the bill is annoying. I keep forgetting to add it in when I do my expenses!

thanks for the responses

Am waiting on a response to this, no automatic online approval. Perhaps because I was requesting to balance transfer $500 of cash advances from my 28 Degrees. How long does it take for the bonus 20,000 points to come through on this?

I recieved my points with the first statement.

I plan to flick mine, doesn't give me anything I don't already have, but the 20k points was worth it.

Annoying customer service. Conditional approval, asked for pay slips - sent them in by fax as requested, but the website still emails me twice a day asking to send in proof of income. Rang up and said they just take a few business days to load the data into the system.

NAB Platinum were far better, you can e-mail the stuff in, they seem to constantly call/email to follow up, even called to check whether I preferred cards to be mailed or to pick up at branch. Since I'm going overseas for a long stretch on Friday they even confirmed I could go to a branch to do the 100pts ID check tomorrow and then have a relative bring the envelope overseas to me later!

This card is advertised as having no annual point limit but when I spoke to HSBC on the telephone this afternoon I was advised that there's a cap of 300 000 points per year.

Re: HSBC QF Platinum - 20K points (+2 QP passes) - $199 Annual Fee [extended] to 30/0

Yes it says 300,000 cap in the documentation you get.
When I obtained this card about 10 months ago they did not even ask to confirm my income. I am self employed. I did not even need to go to Post Office to prove 100 points.
Card just arrived a week or so after I applied on line. Could not have been easier. I understand that others don't seem to get such a dream run.

How did you get so lucky as to not need any proof?

Just logged into progress page today. Apparently I now need to ring to confirm some details. So annoying.

Yes it was too easy. On the other hand I heard they asked one applicant for the date of birth of their accountant. They then rang the accountant and asked the accountant their date of birth so they could prove they were talking to right person. Now how crazy is that. Not really foolproof either.

Of course. We would all know the DOB of our accountant.

That sounds bizarre. What would the point of that be? The people who work in these positions sound like total idiots.

When the credit department is dealing with the general public they may be thinking the same thing about the occasional idiot they get a card application from. Naturally I am a little dismayed that you don't know your accountants birthday. Your accountant would be hoping for champagne and chocolates in vain despite getting you over the line on another credit card that will feed your flying addiction on points.

I applied for one of these earlier in the week. got a call today asking to confirm my employer and their telephone number. silly hsbc, big tech firms don't have telephone numbers, they've got websites and twitter accounts! :(

Applied online, no contact made at all, approved with 10k limit, waaaay to easy.

Anyone had success cancelling one of these cards after holding for a few months (and receiving the points) and receiving a pro rated refund of the unused annual fee?

Have successfully done this with ANZ and Westpac making it very cheap for the points!

I signed up to the NAB Platinum card without any problems.

That could be the problem. I try and space the applications out as they slowly drop off your file (3 years maybe?)

Maybe but they cant have checked my credit file that quick! Can they?

I generally find HSBC a cough to get approval from.
