Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Today's JQ35/36 has been cancelled.

787 schedule seems to be very unreliable, with lengthy delays and cancellations. Not sure if lack of aircraft / crew or both.

Id imagine lots of people are loosing holidays / getting stranded. We really need better consumer protection

Yes, I've not recorded all the delays and cancellations, but they're numerous.

JQ37, the Wednesday 31 August 1640 hours late afternoon SYD-DPS is predicted to depart 245 minutes late at 2045 mid evening, so hopefully shortly. I wonder if any passengers have travelled MEL-SYD at short notice (given 'the 35 at a timetabled 1745 hours was cancelled as you inform us) and that's one further reason for this big delay?

JQ27 (1430 hours SYD-HKT, another resort destination) was also flicked today. Disastrous as many would lose a night's accommodation: travel insurance conditions and/or the excess per incident might mean the passenger(s) had to bear this impost.

The travails of A321 VH-VWU today show how (depending on the roster) delays can compound.

It was bang on time arriving at 0910 hours on the 0630 ex YD up to TSV, JQ912, its first for the day. Then it went back down to SYD as JQ913, arriving only two minutes late at 1227 hoyrs. So far so good.

However this larger JQd aircraft then was on JQ517, the 1315 hours lunchtime SYD down to MEL that did not become airborne until 1422 hours, arriving at 1536, 46 behind. Returning to SYD saw it engaged as JQ518, the 1540 hours airborne 70 minutes later for an arrival time of 1820, 75 behind. I haven't checked but there was most likely some holding involved.

It then operated JQ525, the 1750 hours MEL-SYD in the sky at 1942, arriving at 2054, 89 late.

Finally, it's operating JQ532 (2015 hours MEL-SYD) up up and away at 2135 for suggested arrival at 2244, 64 minutes past what the timetable states.

From observation, turnaround in MEL can be extremely slow. Often they're faster in Sydney though what media has stated is a lack of air traffic controllers and sometimes, limits on how many flights can arrive or depart during each 15 minutes (especially in Sydney) can adversely affect airlines.

JQ37 just been cancelled too! All these flights are full with no space in the coming days either - that’s not accounting for the people trying to get home!

Sadly, JQ3, the Thursday 1 September 2022 scheduled 1630 hours SYD-HNL is delayed overnight to a new departure time of 1300 tomorrow afternoon.

Not exactly the way to put a 'Spring' in a traveller's step.

JQ1037 replaced JQ37 (SYD-DPS).

As a result of that JQ3 delay, it looks like JQ4 for 1 Sept is now scheduled to depart at the wonderful hour of 0430 on 2 Sept, 16 hours late. HNL airport security is not normally even operating at that hour ( TSA Checkpoint Hours ) - does that mean Jetstar needs to pay overtime for such an early departure? At this stage you'd think adding another few hours for it to be a more normal time in the morning might not really hurt...

In further disruption obviously affecting its B788 fleet, JQ61, today's mid afternoon 1515 hours SYD-SGN is estimated to depart at 1300 hours on Saturday 3 September 2022.

JQ1037 today (presumably a replacement for JQ37), the 1300 hours SYD-DPS should depart at 1740 in the late afternoon.

The 'real' JQ37 is displaying as the 1640 hours delayed by an hour. Odd that two DPS-bound flights have an identical departure time showing.

Apparently 3 JQ B788s on the ground undergoing maintenence repairs at the moment in various locations so some sucky times for JQi pax coming up in the next few days.

Are there still 787 yet to return to service after covid ?

I make it onto the JQ1035 yesterday, lots of people were getting by bumped, it was heavily overbooked

More 787 flights to DPS have been cancelled, looks like they are sending A320s up instead

DPS schedule is in disarray
Both 787 flights from syd. And Mel have been cancelled (again) tonight.

Hundreds (if not thousands by this point) of people trying to rearrange / get home etc

Jetstars social media is being inundated with people complaining about the cancellations

Note the almost complete lack of research.

"Engineering requirements" hehe.

The journalist could have looked up individual JQi planes (B788s for instance) to see how many had not operated during the past week, and then asked more detailed questions of Jetstar.

It's been chaotic for quite a few days, and as shown above, it's not only the Denpasar route from Sydney that's badly affected. However it gets the publicity because that's where the bogans travel. One visit was sufficient to turn me off for life!

Also on Monday 5 September 2022, JQ3 (1630 hours afternoon service SYD-HNL) is delayed until 2000 hours as the estimated pushback.

I have JQ flight to SIN booked in next few weeks, and getting stressed reading the chaos atm. 3 hour delay is one thing. 12 hour/overnight flight another. Cancel and fly X days later not an option, due to next international flight 2 days later.

I was just checking what other options on the day, and low and behold i can book 2 QF reward seats same day 4 hours later. (where were these seats a month ago!!!!!!!)

What would be logistics with this scenario - checkin @ JQ and airside (QF F lounge) with hand luggage only, and JQ gets delayed/cancelled - how to check into QF flight?

And if we do fly JQ, how late has anyone cancelled a QF reward ticket? terms say prior to departure.

Another scenario - if flight gets delayed X hours..... when is latest you can check into these flights? does the checkin period remain fixed to scheduled departure times? Todays flight was cancelled hours prior to departure so no issue there. but 2 days ago noon departure changed to midnight. would rather be angry at home than stuck at airport.

My experience with delays has been that check-in times are adjusted to be typically three/two hours before the amended departure time.

This makes sense, as if an airline is accommodating passengers in hotels, the buses won't arrive back at the airport until then. Similarly, for those who are locals and sent home with taxi/Uber vouchers and the like, they won't want to be at the airport at 1900 for a 2350 hours changed departure.

Also on Tuesday 6 September 2022, B788 VH-JKF on JQ57, the 0700 hours BNE-DPS took off at 1146 hours with expected arrival at 1543 hours, 268 minutes behind schedule.
