I use hotel plastic laundry bags for clean clothes and when returning the same bag is used for dirty clothes. And yes, amenity bags are used for toiletries and electronics.

You lost me at "bought". I use various amenities bags leftover from previous flights, cloth laundry bags and shoe bags from hotels and other free items for the same purpose.

I didn't buy the packing cubes. I bought 3 cases and because I had spent over a certain $$ amount the packing cubes were a "FREE" gift ! I have used Ziploc bags in the past and have been happy with that, I just wanted to know other peoples experiences with using the cubes.

Pro tip: the Intercontinental in Hong Kong has the best bags for your future packing needs. Also the best view across the harbour.

But it is going to cost me a damn sight more to fly to HK and stay there than just buy the cubes in the first place.

For cables, look into the Grid-It organisers by Cocoon. I think there are much cheaper knock offs too.

Very useful thread! When checking bags I have an Osprey Sojourn, with wheels and a full frame and harness. I stick a lightweight backpack in it, and take a satchel bag on the plane with me, with laptop etc. and a change of clothes. The Sojourn is brilliant for what it does, the wheels and handle are very tough and quiet, and the harness system works surprisingly well, so I'd highly recommend it. It's just too big for me most of the time, and I could easily get away with HLO for most of my travel.

So I'm after a little advice, I'm looking for a carry-on sized backpack. I've seem some mentions of the Crumpler Dry Red #6, which looks great. Then there is the Red Oxx Sky Train, and an Osprey Porter that also look good. Light weight and good access to the main compartment are important for me, I don't think a dedicated laptop sleeve would be that useful for me though. I'd be interested in hearing anyones opinions on these or other similar bags! Thanks :)

I have just bought a new "handbag" for our next trip. I like roomy bags that I can get a lot in to. This could double for an overnight bag they say ! And it comes in 5 colours - naturally I got purple.

It is a Lipault Weekend Bag Size: 47cm x 27cm x 21cm Note: Approved cabin bag size for Virgin and Qantas domestic and international flights
Weight: 0.9kg
Capacity: 27lts

Just received a Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 22" carry on. Mainly wanted something for some upcoming trips where I wanted to take suits/shirts but didn't want an extra garment bag (although the matching tri-fold garment bag does look too).

Taking it out of the box, was much bigger than I expected it to be, but it does meet QF international carry on sizing. Just over $330.

So today I thought I'd check I was going mad. My other Carry on is an Antler New Size Zero, at dimensions of 55 x 35 x 23 cm compared to the Werks 5 at 56 x 36 x 23, so technically very similar. However put them side by side:

Apologies for the poor photos, but you can see what I mean. The funny thing is, I thought the Antler was always on the edge of acceptable..but apparently it wasn't!

Rimowa is to open retail store in Sydney at 5 Martin Place.

Edit: storefront getting touches

FYI if anyone needs some new lugguge, www.luggugegear.com.au has a sale on at the moment. 50% off RRP on most major brands.

Use discount code: TCLUGGUGE for an additional 10% off

I picked up a Samsonite 72hours 55cm spinner case for the wife, $148.05 delivered. Haven't seen these cheaper than $197 in stores, and better than what I paid online a month or 2 ago ($161.10)

D'oh, I just bought something during their new year sale, the code would've been handy! How did you come across it, as I receive their newsletters and didn't see that one.

I bought during their new year sale too, but luckily just 1 case.

I came across the discount code on the OzBargain forums.

Cheers,
Eddie

I honestly swear by my Ebags TLS Motherlode Weekender. I wanted to keep things light, but allow for expandable room at destination to carry water etc with me - and I wanted a back pack vrs wheels, to allow myself both hands free for my two wheeled checked bags, be it to wheel them, or carry them up stairs where and when required. I also wanted easy access to laptop to pull it out and put back in for speed at security, which this delivers without a fault. I also has delivered the other unknown benefit prior to buying it that I just never get it checked when carry on bags are being checked for weight - where as a roller of equal size will always be checked when and where they are checking. Have knowingly had it at 20kg in weight and going on as my carry on 7kg limit.

I also just bought and are loving my new padded Laptop Sleeve which is more bag than sleeve - but is a nice padded sleeve and what I am after in a sleeve and is awesome. The second matching satchel that fits the power supply nicely is a appreciated extra to keep cables nice and tidy during traveling. I have had a few now most look great but upon getting are just a thin neoprene layer that falls apart and offers no padding. One I just bought from, did so from seller "Burnoaa" on Ebay - Made in and ships from South Korea. Quality and durability are well worth the prices on offer:

Yes I still roll with Black Antler spinners for my checked bags when and where I want to use/take them - but I tend to use them only 10-20% of the time, opting for Cardboard Cartons 80-90% of the time as they weigh less than bags, so get more for my allowance plus they provide more protection for the contents of my bags - and most of the stuff I have in my checked bags are on a one way trip anyway.
