Thanks for all the hard work. If I could change one thing it would be a one step process to go to new posts

Actually, @RooFlyer, the idea of @ has been around for a while. :) If you ever used mIRC back in the days, @ was used to denote another member in the channel (other symbols included /me [status] which was a command to print something you intended to display as you doing something rather than you saying something). I never used a BBS in my life, but I wonder if they had a similar convention.

Got used to mIRC? Ya gotta be kidding, surely? :) If its not written on a gin or wine label, its passed me by.

Another pernicious thing I've noticed with the new AFF site is that my profile wants me to reveal my 'status', like Facebook.

Its the thin edge of the wedge! Other than being comfortably sozzled, my status is my own to discover!

Once the system has caught up, clicking the thread link will take you to the first unread post, unless it has been some time since you last looked at the thread.
You may need to set everything to read before the view track will work.

What i meant was on the old site the new posts required one click at the top, now you need to go into another area and then click new post ie it is a 2 click process

If you look in Watched Threads or New Posts, there is a blue dot next to the title of the thread. The blue dot means that you have some posts in that thread which you haven't read yet.

If you click on the blue dot, it should take you to the first post you haven't read. This will take some time to "recalibrate" in some cases due to the migration. For example, clicking on blue dots in my list where I haven't visited that thread since the migration takes me to the first post on 11 August, even if I visited that thread before the migration.

This step is similar to the old AFF where you had to click on the small downward double arrowhead icon.

clicking on a thread link will take you to the first new post since the last time you looked at that thread. If there have been no new posts since the last time you looked at the thread, it takes you to the last post. On the other hand, if it's been some time since the thread was active, or you last looked, the same link takes you to the first post and you'd need to use the new post button at the top of the thread next to the page numbers to get to the unread posts.
One of the interesting side effects of suddenly discovering that I am reading 5 year old posts, is that I realise how little some things have changed!

Oh god.....don't log on for 24hrs..........than bam........thanks for the tips in this thread or I would still be in a ball rocking

That will take you to the newest unread post.
Due to the change, it may take some time for the database to rebuild user read post thread tracking.
Depending on the amount of time since you last looked at a thread, the thread tracking for that thread may have expired and the database will revert back to the start of the thread.

That's within a thread. But there's no one click process to see all new posts in reverse chronological order.

In the old AFF you could click "what's new" and get a list of the 40 most recent posts. However, in the new version you have to click "what's new" followed by "recent activity". It's an extra click, and even then that feed is filled with likes, agrees etc, rather than new contributions.

I've never had reason to do that, either here, FT, or the forum I've been using this software on for years.
I've just tired to do so, on both XenForo forums, and that doesn't appear to be the case.

I assume you are talking about the "What's New?" link at the top of the screen? Don't wait for the drop down menu, just click on "What's New?". Takes you to a list of threads from all over the entire forum with new posts.

Yeah, I've been using that. If only there was a two line preview of each of the latest messages like the "what's new" section on the old AFF.

To be fair to all involved, there is heaps I like about the new forum, especially the changes to alerts while will substantially reduce clutter in my email.

Would it be possible to activate the template option so we can select other forum templates to use?
Perhaps some threads would benefit from thread marks?
A divider between sticky threads and normal threads would be helpful. :)

At this stage we only have the one template. This is because many of the add-ons would need to be reconfigured to work with a second template. This is extra work right now.

As for dividing sticky and non-sticky posts, I’m sure I’ve seen a setting for that so will have a look soon.

PS. Is there still a c. 1200 character limit in signatures?

I don’t know what the limit is, but I would advise against making too big a signature.

Well I am in the let's give it a go camp. Works on my phone, so that's a big improvement. Yes, a bit washed out looking, but I reckon another week and it will no longer seem strange.

Then can we at least change the avatars from the silly circles to something more normal?

You didn't comment on thread marks.

Thread marks are an option in XenForo for the thread OP or a mod to tag a individual posts in a thread which can then be jumped to directly via an index within the thread.

hmm... Hovering over a thread link brings up a preview of the first post. Maybe there is an option to change that to first new post?

That's how I have always browsed AFF, I'm still in a ball on the floor morning my loss :( If that one function was made available I would be very grateful

I used "Today's Posts" regularly, so it is a bit of a pain.

One work around I have found is still a multi step process.

Go to top of any page. Llook for ^ on top right for a shortcut.

Click in the search box at top right them with the pop up click more.

Click "Search threads and Posts"

Input **** as keyword

Click in "newer than" and choose yesterday's date.

Go to Bottom of page and check "Display Results as Threads"

Click Search.

In regards to the greyed out quotes being hard to read, why can't the quotes be displayed like they are seen in the email notifications? Very clear to read and wouldn't be reinventing the wheel.

I actually like the greyed out quotes - it's generally not particularly important.

The new post in darker font is the important thing

(Btw how did you create that different example)
