New AFF Website

Amused by all the "I dont like how it looks so I won't be using it" comments. The old forum had a lot of issues, as did the app. I really enjoyed being able to post photos from my phone all weekend without getting stuck or losing my post, so I'm pretty pleased. The only thing I dont like is the large gaps between each post as it sucks up a lot of space on a phone scree..

There was a slight issue with this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though, if you check now it should be fixed. Please let me know.
Can confirm that it's working again on my end: can now see the 'signature' option in the main menu and have also successfully edited and updated my signature. Thanks for fixing so promptly! :)

(A note to anybody else who has permalinks to particular posts in their own signature: these are now 'broken' since the changeover as the format is different, so you may wish to generate a new permalink for the post you were linking to, and update your signature also.)

Mark Forums Read marks absolutely everything Read
Well that's not very useful if you only want to mark part of the forum as read.

The mobile version is not that great. It looks like the old app which I hated. It takes a lot of getting used to this new version. Just like the Qantas website.

One of the things I liked about the old format was a list at the bottom of each thread of other threads which had been updated recently. This was one of the ways I kept track of new threads in particular forums. Is there an equivalent of this in the new forums?

I used to get an email each Monday on new threads on specific forums I had subscribed to. I'm guessing that given the fact that I'm not getting most of the email notifications I want, I probably won't get these emails later today.

I'm going through the long process of figuring out which threads I'm subscribed to, unsubscribing to them and then re-subscrbing with email alerts chosen.

Something for the list...

When I have made a post, and then clicked on 'What's new' on the top menu, I've been noticing that the post/thread doesn't show. Should be at/near the top.

I just noticed there is a link 'recent posts' to the top right of the posts list, and when I click that, the list refreshes and I see everything up to that second.

Shouldn't clicking afresh on 'what's new' also present an up-to-date list?
...

Thanks for that - I had not noticed. From that I was able to work out a URL:

A heads up.Your conversations are public.I have read a few now where one of the participants says don't make this public.I am thinking you should lock your conversations though I am not sure if that would do it.
I did this by clicking on Recent Activity.I am warning some posters, hopefully privately.

Performance is better which is good.

Mobile is hit and miss...hope the app version comes soon. Most traffic these days is mobile so not sure why the app/mobile design wasn't given priority.

I'm only seeing messages that were posted to a person's wall, not their PMs. Not all people know the difference though and may have posted to the wall by accident.

I would be interested in you sending me a link to where you think a "conversation" (PM) has been made public. It is likely that what you are actually seeing is a post to someone's profile page, which was a little hidden, but nevertheless public, in vBulletin.

For instance, can you see any of my conversations?

In fact you will find that the mobile design is probably 1000% better than it was before. I'm not sure if you ever used the vBulletin mobile site, but it was painful I can tell you!

The reason the app was not given priority is because we wanted a functional website first. We couldn't give the app priority if there was no website to point it to ;)

No - this is certainly not correct. What you are seeing is Profile Posts. Conversations are NOT public!

You didn't comment on thread marks.

Thread marks are an option in XenForo for the thread OP or a mod to tag a individual posts in a thread which can then be jumped to directly via an index within the thread.

I have just looked at this. It is an add-on, so it doesn't come built-in.

When the wiki is fixed up, it could provide similar functionality, as could a Moderator editing the first post to include subsequent content links.

Don't worry, even us Mods (read - me) that had a play on the test Xenforo system are having "withdrawal from the old AFF" (well I certainly am ;) ). I miss my "Subscribed Threads" and I'm still trying to find out how to do things, as I'm not IT-minded and didn't have a chance over the weekend to navigate around and explore. But then again, I remember coming across to the VBulletin version and thinking the sky was about to fall in - and I'm pretty sure there was another iteration before that. Patience Grasshoppers :D

Re pinned threads, as well as the red pin, there is a (relatively thin) bar on the left hand side as well. The Qantas forum shows this best
