Why do some of my posts appear and then disappear and subsequently reappear on this thread? Does a post disappear temporarily if someone is quoting from it in a reply?

Me too. I thought it was just me, and the result of last night's rough red ....

The new forum software takes a bit of getting used to, but is a definite step up from the old clunky vBulletin (which is ~15yo - do you still use a 15yo PC with DOS 6.20?)
I regularly use a DOS window, and we still have one Dos PC left to run a few old programs. Those were the days .....

I am up to Win10, but stay in 32-bit with one of the work PCs as I likewise still use a DOS window and a program called Paradox, a database manager: I wrote all its scripts, didn't fall over in the Y2K "meltdown" - still runs my payroll, accounts payble and mailing lists. Bullet proof.

The site is telling me I can upgrade to gold membership ..... I'm already gold. Has the membership status rolled over correctly?

In the forums the replies are too spread out for me. I like to scan the list of threads but not that many fit on my screen now.

Also, each post takes up so much space.

Way too much white space.

Good call, PF. Just changed mine. Look like all were set back to default (American Samoa) by software update.

My Explorer replacement (and SO MUCH more) is Directory Opus (highly recommended BTW). I select an image then click the down arrow on Properties | Edit Metadata then delete or alter metadata as required. There's a lot of info there..

View attachment 105719

But Google tells me "On Windows, right-click on a picture and choose Properties, then open the Details tab and click Remove Properties and Personal Information. You have the option to strip out some or all of the attached EXIF data, and you can create a a copy of the image file if you don't want to mess with the original."

In Directory Opus, I think one could probably set up a small script actually to clean out the metadata of the selected file(s) quite easily.

On this page...

...is there any way to display one or two lines of what each new post says?

I found this a great way to quickly catch up on new posts and used it frequently in the only system.

I'll get used to the new format. It doesn't seem so bad.

Having to click over a new page every 20 post is a bit annoying but could be worse and I can sort of get it in the guise of catering for mobile devices.

Just posted this from clicking More Options... when replying. I get basically a big grey area with a red line in the middle and some buttons (this is from desktop). I then realised that the text entry box essentially is the same colour as the background with no border except for the red line at the bottom. I worked this out by moving my mouse around and seeing where the pointer changed to an I-beam. A bit of a UI design fail (maybe one of the software, not AFF). Maybe I should go back to the rich text editor (I'm using the text based one like I used to with the old software - one of the first things I changed in settings).

I think I've worked out how to go to the first unread post straight from my list of Watched Threads, but the only problem is that the forum thinks I haven't read anything from one month ago, which isn't true. I suppose it should "fix" itself in time after I've opened up all my watched (old: subscribed) threads.

As for pictures, I opened up an old TR of mine and it seems fine. My pictures that I post are hotlinked to an online gallery and said images are sized correctly, so I don't know if that helped.

Was in the web and print design business for years so will say it again its .....awful, a 5 year old could have done better than this,
GET RID OF ALL THIS WASTED WHITE SCROLLING SPACE AND FIX THE FORUM HEADING PLEASE!

Is there anyway you can disable avatars from displaying? It seems that the large size of them and the content under them is determining the size of the comment box.

Another forum I use has a skin available that strips all that out and this means posts are more condensed.

Need to allow for discreet work browsing! No issues using the Net but I don't need my colleagues being nosy!
