New Next Gen Card and Bag Tags have arrived!

Isn't the whole point of NGCI to automate the system? I expect that the baggage system would sort the WP, SG etc. into separate bins to load and offload the aircraft, reducing manual sorting.

Received my silver card and tags yesterday as my SC review was the end of October. If the silver and platinum look similar I guess the level of mixups will increase.
Also with paper labels it would be easier to notice a misplaced bag - for example a solitary bag labelled SYD on a trolley of other bags going to PER.

I can also envisage the tags falling off in time as the rubbery straps that loop around the suitcase handle perish. The one off plasticised paper labels were single usage and were more resilient than the old QF credit card type ID labels with plastic loops.

Bins are OK for widebodies, but not used on 737's.

The "Magic Carpet" simply does not cut it for baggage sorting.

Qantas and Aus Post allowed me to be happy this morning when I checked my PO Box.

The packaging is something worthy of making Apple Jealous. They obviously spent a few bucks on this stuff for status members.

Gotta say the new card is pretty wallet candy. Much nicer than the old WP cards (and the interim trial Q chip ones too). The whole name/ff number/exp date stuff being in foil/holographic-esque type colour is neat too, as are the 'emanating' circles from dot above the 'Q Chip' logo (even though the chip is down under the OW logo).

And nice to see the card is now, well, platinum, rather than the old 'brown' it really was:)

A little annoying they didn't devise a way to have your personal info on the Q Bag Tags without having it so visible. I think i'll be leaving my old WP tags on as ID tags and throwing these on when I do travel.

Got my card last week.

Plat extended to 2012 (although website still shows 2011 a week later).

My wife hasn't received her partner gold card/tags yet, waiting to see what they look like and if the packaging is as fancy.

Cheers,

JOBU

Hey, at least there are a few of us positive about what Qantas are trying to do!

As previously stated, I most probably wont use mine, however, what a terrible bunch of moans and groans in this thread because of a bit of change...

@ oz(insert rest of name here) who is pissed because hey didn't get his tags and got "comped" Gold again - you as a newby platinum will learn very fast my friend that there are multiple levels of platinum and you will be treated as such.

There are a number of platinum flyers on this forum who never see upgrades and other benefits, yet there are others who see a whole different Qantas world.

Platinum levels (Qantas) - in my opinion.... (1 being the lowest)

1. Platinum achieved mainly on other metal (AA for example)
2. Platinum achieved by scraping through or comped
3. Platinum achieved by flying primarily (>95%) on QF metal
4. Platinum achieved by flying primarily (>95%) on QF metal and attaining partner Gold (actually double platinum status) - usually this level is reattained year after year
5. Platinum achieved primarily on QF metal who earn >3500 Status credits in a year

Benefits vs level:

Level 1. Bugger all
Level 2. Bugger all (but occasional INT upgrades)
Level 3. OPUPs every now and again, higher service level
Level 4. More frequent OPUPs, better service level, AIR magazine (still black magic how that works), in the front part of the line when it comes to new enhancements or opportunities offered by QF. Usually in the top 1-3% of QF frequent flyers (not to be confused with QF customers!)
Level 5. Level 4 + invites to events, CL scrutiny, valuable customer status

These are my opinions only based on being a level 4 year after year, and personally knowing levels 1-3 in droves, and have a cousin in level 5 plus know an AFF'r in that level as well (im sure there's a few of them on AFF).

There is nothing published as to my opinions, but I am very sure this is getting close to being correct.

As a "level 4", I do receive the AIR magazine but haven't received an op upgrade in years....

Cheers,

JOBU

Hmm, I get AIR, but don't have (nor have ever had) PG.
I have easily made it to WP each year for the last 3 years or so, and fly almost entirely QF metal.

The exception that proves the rule? :)

I've had several op-up's in the past 12 months, and i'm guessing I earned around 40-45% of my SC's on QF metal in the past 18 months. This year, it'll not be, but after figuring out my flying patterns (courtesy of munitalP's thread about it) I realised how much of my time is spent on MEL-PER.

I've had an opup ADL-MEL, SYD-SFO and LAX-MEL in the past 12 months. No Air magazine or any other special treatment. Always had QF staff bend over backwards for special requests.

I'd love to know the real 'sub classes' of WP. I'm guessing dollars more than SC's come into it, with my average MEL-PER being around $650 return and I do that 3-5 times a year (and I spent the better part of 6-7 years earning around 600SC's a year on QF DOM only before finding out better earning methods courtesy of this site!)

Mine arrived in the mail today.. SG ones and a note saying my Gold membership was extended to April 2012. That's nice of them. Pity i already re-qualified back in July til 2012!

I still want some older Gold tags for my daughter. Might call tomorrow. And i wonder if I will get WP ones next month when I hit that lofy height?

Nick

Got mine today. no status extension here. Perhaps they have my card marked. ;)

The thick-ish card bit on the front of the nice packaging has started to delaminate from the paper-ish body. So I can't see the package being a long term souvenir for me. :(

But new member card looks nice.

Re the J lounge at T3 SYD. What has been installed in the last 2 weeks is a couple of long benches. One right near the food servery area. The underside was covered in sawdust still, and there is no power on the bench.
That building hoarding has been there for a little while, but I've only been plat since mid october.

My SG kit arrived today, similarly no status extension but certainly wasn't expecting one being in my first year of SG.

So any thoughts on what should I do with the other two SG cards (plain & Q-chip) I have received in the last 4 months?

Very interesting analysis.

I'm another exception to the rule though - I'm a Level 2 or 3 as only scrape in every year but achieve it by flying 100% QF domestic. Seem to get around a dozen OpUps a year but only when Y is full and I do get AIR.

I was part of the trial and then with my anniversary date being Sep got another Q Chip card expiring Sep 11 but I'm a bit envious of the new look cards which have been redesigned and look a whole lot better.

I wonder whether I'll get a new card when they send me the Q Tags, which could be quite some time away since I usually never check-in luggage?

Has anyone had tags sent to them without a card?

I received my silver card and bag tags yesterday, but no signs of the complimentary QP invitation. I am a corporate QP member until next June. Perhaps QF don't want to tempt me to drop my QP membership next June and use the invitation between July and October?

You only get the complimentary pass when you requalify/qualify so if you have a Dec anniversary date you probably got the new NGCI bag tags/card now and might get your pass closer to your renewal date?
