Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Thanks for the Chardy post, very few here.
Reminds me about one I bought from Vintage Cellars a few weeks ago. I think $20 per bottle. Absolutely superb drinking at that price point, great length.

The Nepenthe is in the current cellar press for $21.99 a bottle when 6 bottles purchased, plus you get a bonus cellar share , so all up less than $18 a bottle - fantastic deal. Ends Nov 18.

I haven't tried the 2012, but have enjoyed previous vintages. Great to hear it's still good!

Also, BWS have their regular 30% off 6 bottles of wine, so Mountadam High Eden Chardonnay can be bought for ~$25 a bottle - a fantastic price! Plus you get about 120 QFF points for 6! I reckon it's a nicer wine than the Nepenthe - fuller, rounder, softer.

And for those that like Riesling, I had the Vintage Cellars Chalkboard Riesling from Frankland River a couple of weeks ago - very good. Currently $24 for 2.

Yes it's great to find these smashing wines at a great price point. Looking at my cellar notes the Yering Station was bought for $23 each.
Family get together this Sunday, so maybe another white that I will post up later this weekend

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Currently my better half and I are enjoying a 2012 bass Phillip crown prince Pinot noir, I picked up from langdons. I must say it is a very fine drop.. Earthy, Oaky plenty of berry and a hint of leather. Absolute winner.

I did say I would open a white for the Sunday dinner, but of course there was also Saturday dinner tonight

Bright colour, clean taste of mild fruits and a nice nose. Would have preferred if there was more fruit, but can't deny that it was an enjoyable drop. Will be visiting Yarra Valley soon, so looking forward to dropping by as many vineyards as I can fit into the schedule.

My recommendation for best pairing with this Pinot is with a good book, before bed!

That's a lovely year from an outstanding winery

The 707 Penfolds arrived. I love free delivery from the DM /SH/RAC- Woolies gift card system.

Keeping up the Pinot Noir drinking, we're currently having a Taylor's 2013 Pinot Noir over lunch - beautiful when paired with Thai from my parents local favourite Thai restaurant. Thanks for my son having a birthday :D

What was it like?

Didn't think about it too much. Initially the nose was quite open, but found the palette a little flabby. Chilled it down a bit which made the palette more appealing, but the nose really closed. Fruit driven, decent weight, medium minus finish. A bit simple, but enjoyable. Probably not worth the $29 I paid for it. SWMBO was far more impressed with it than me though.

Do you normally like Pinot Gris? If you do, which ones? I've not tried this one, but do like Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris. Actually haven't had any Brokenwood wine that I can recall, but seem to recall they are well regarded.

If you are going for Margaret River reds start with Cullens and Mosswood and everyone will be happy with you.
Don't forget Xanadu and Cape Mentelle not to forget E&T, Voyager, Vasse Felix and a number of others!

Drinking superbly after a couple of years napping. Sunday is Pinot night...

How do I triple like?? The intensity of fruit and spice of the Margaret River shiraz is endearing. Quite different from say Barossa or Hunter Valley reds. The Cab Sav from Margaret River is also wonderful.

I found th Brokenwood pinot gris is a straight forward wine, a bit sweet/not lingering finish for my liking but as Daver mentioned, was a hit with the spouse and her mother in law. I normally keep this style, or an Eden Valley/Clare Valley riesling handy for when both are around. Keeps me high on the favourite son-in-law list

Um, "like like like" or more to the point "drink drink drink" :) MR Shiraz is indeed very nice with nice depth, spice and white pepper notes etc ( mt barker is interestng for that) but the best WA CS are in a different class, IMHO.

You don't like Eden/Clare Valley Riesling?
