Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Was debating which thread in which to post my 10,000th - note that by posting in Playground, my post count doesn't change :D.

I wonder if I should open a bottle (tonight) to celebrate this momentous feat ;). Why not :D

Good work QF WP.

Let me take this thread off topic and thank you for your contribution both as a member and a mod.

Now back on topic - yes you should drink something nice tonight.

Firstly, I note that is post 9999 from you QF WP :)

In general, Barolos are unapproachable when young. The grape is Nebbiolo. Hugely tannic and acidic and really need some cellar time. Also, really are food wines. Typical aromas are tar, roses and dark fruits. Notes to come in a bit for the wines I had last night.

Yes they take quite a while. Drank some nice 2000's in May. Although the 06's and 07's are excellent and the 08's are drinking well with 10's regarded as the best for some years. But it's also more complicated as to whether the winemaker sticks to their Piemontese campanilismo beliefs with less vinyard and canopy management, large botti and little science and seat-of-the-pants traditional harvesting and vintage concepts, or whether they have adopted the smaller barrique and modern methods from the Barolo Boys. (Catch the movie if you haven't seen it.)

Getting to know the Terroir is hard enough but now there's a trend back to the larger botti but with much more scientific vineyard management. Interesting to compare large and small barrel methods from the same winery such as Poderi Aldo Conterno, Giaccomo Conterno et al.

Be interested in your further tasting notes for 10002+! :)

Well done, I'd suggest "popping" rather than "opening" a bottle...occasions such as this are deserving of some bubbly. Thanks for your (many) contributions!

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

A few years ago I was in Georgia with my family. As everybody knows they are one of the best wine makers. And I must tell that yes, it's truth, because that was something really really tasty.
I tried it in some cafe which was somewhere in the center of Batumi, and all 5 days every evening we go there to drink that wine.
It was awesome!!!

You may say that but I could not possibly comment. :)

My much appreciated and dependable friend, Bollinger, keeping me company on this Thursday night :)

A room service Sevenhill 'Inigo' Riesling from SA (never tried before) does a great job (with its clean crisp finish) cutting through the spice of my singapore noodles :)

Room service . ROOM SERVICE :rolleyes::(. Are you THAT lonely? OTOH, maybe not, after a bottle of Bolly to cuddle...:p.

Haha! Yeah.. it's pretty sad isn't it :(
Well someone refused to provide ox-tail stew so I had to fend for myself ;)
P.S. The Bolly lives to fight another day... I still have to work tomorrow :)

But I got back to PER last night and you didn't say how long you were lingering here ;).
