Perfectly drinkable. How did you find the 2011 blackcat20?
Not the best year in the Barossa, but a few good winemakers made some good wine.

I'm a big fan of Crabtree Riesling! It's not something you see very often though - very small. Though I usually don't like aged riesling. Have you visited the cellar door? Is that where that came from? I visited a few years ago and had a very memorable experience at the cellar door - great wine, great cellar door guy and met a couple that I had seen earlier at another winery and ended up having dinner with them! Unfortunately it's pretty damn cold and wet in Melbourne today - drinking a Pepperjack Shiraz.
Actually purchased this at the cellar door myself. Was cycling the Riesling trail and this was our second last stop (started in Clare). Went back the following day with the car to pick up purchases made while cycling. What a great way to explore one of my favourite wine regions in Australia.
And the perfect way to do the Coonawarra also - stay at Penola - cycle out to Coonawarra visiting each winery on West side (left) on the way out - have lunch - cycle back to Penola. Was cycling ...................Went back the following day with the car to pick up purchases made while cycling. Suspected you might have acquired it from the cellar door. It was my last stop on the second day - first day was cycling Riesling trail (from Clare), with the second day driving. One of my favourite wine regions too! How was it with four years age?
Planning on visiting Clare again at Christmas!

Next day cycle out to Coonawarra - turn around and visit the wineries on East side (again your left side) on your way back into Penola - go back out 3rd day and collect your purchases - PERFECT short break.

Note: Penola - Coonawarra Rd actually runs north/south. How good would this little sojourn be for an AFF get together? Might just get about organising this once I get the MEL Champers night bedded down!
Actually seems pretty primary still. Nose of white grapefruit, lemon pith and quite floral. Mouth is really rich with plenty of acid. Not a hint of kerosene or lanolin which usually comes with age. This is a seriously good wine in my opinion. I have two more bottles. No rush to drink them, but also drinking beautifully now.
I think Riesling is such an under-rated variety. For me, Clare and the Great Southern are the go to spots for Australian Riesling. I think in future Tassie could produce some serious Riesling too.

Done it more than once - it's safe enough - as always you need to keep your wits about you - just be wary of those lunatic Uber X drivers! In my opinion, there are some regions that are not suitable for cycling, due to the high speed of traffic (100 km/h), without sufficient shoulder or separate bike paths. Hawkes Bay is one and Coonawarra is another.
Love your idea though!

Do you take your own bicycles or hire them locally?
This sounds like a wonderful idea as an AFF get together
As I mentioned above, I've cycled several wine regions - always hired locally.
