Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Christmas pork with crackling, more prawns and turkey with a shiraz, followed by dessert and afters with the Black Noble. Will continue the Boxing Day tradition with the leftovers, start of play with the cricket, and friends :)

Have arrived on the Gold Coast - one of my wife's friends and her (English) husband. One of the few people who understands wine and loves to drink good wine. He has experience - used to work on Hiltons in London and has this little badge (number 1001):

Tasting notes: first up it was astringent and front of tongue. After an hour in the decanter it had settled down and it was smoother and it got better with every glass *hic*

Berries with oak.

Not a skerrick of (photographic) evidence, but the Christmas roast goose (preceded by prawns and FRESH TASMANIAN crayfish :p :) :D ) was accompanied by a plurality of Henschke Hill of Roses 2001. Hill of Grace is better, that that wasn't bad. The seafood had a 2008 Pipers Brook sparkling to go with it. Dunno what the experts would say to that matching, but there were no complaints on the day!

Oh, and pudding was a small traditional Christmas pudding (with ye olde threepenny bits in it) beside a small mountain of raspberries picked from my niece's garden that morning (or rather, the balance of what was left after the kids had left after sampling (and I'm talking about 'kids' mostly in their 20s!!)).

Boxing Day leftovers have a mere Basket Press Shiraz 2002 to help it along.

Is that a Venturi you poured through? Wouldn't have thought it would have been required for a 1997!
 
Since I like Muscat and PX, It sounds I'll have to try the Black Noble!

Forgot to mention that I had a 2005 Wynns Cabernet Sauvignon on Christmas Eve - not normally a fan of Cabernet Sauvignon (find it far too tannic), but quite enjoyed it! Would be interesting to try older ones. Vintage Cellars have the 2005 for $30 a bottle at the moment (I paid $38 from 1st choice, at the last minute).
