re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Hi Oz,

Thanks for your reply. I'll have a look at EF. Interestingly I did look at just MEL-LAX an the quoted price was 896K which really made no sense to me why it would be even more than YVR-MEL. I'll just keep trying.

Thanks

Edit: I thought that I read somewhere that some people have previously had some luck in calling the WP help desk to open up a U seat and then turned it into a JASA. Is that just myth or has anyone managed to do this with the help of the WP help desk?

I recently discovered AFF and thanks to markis10 and all the other contributors in this thread, have booked my first JASA! SYD-BNE-CNS-SYD for 72k + $240 which will net me 180 SC and 5,954 points for a trip that I had planned on taking anyway! Probably not the most effective use of miles, but my dates were quite firm around Christmas time.

Hi guys, bit of a strange question but I'm sure nothing is really strange on this forum. Looking at getting 2 return JASA's to HKG or SIN around end of year, I did find ool-syd-mel-HKG however waited to long and now they have all dried up (plus didn't realize they removed the 747 on the flight from mel) any way my question is I found on expert flyer that there is 1 P award on the 380 from HKG however I don't have the points for 2 FASA (unless one of my close relatives on here would love to do a family transfer ) so can I buy a JASA it would have to be to mel and not syd and then call up to change to the syd FASA and just pay the fare difference instead of the extra points and would they release another p seat for the second seat (the person I'm traveling with is a WP and these flights would be booked under their profile. Expert flyer currently shows no sales in F at all, I have done something similar when I was in HKG i had flights booked I J however called up and was able to be moved into F for around $250 extra. Look forward to your thoughts. Cheers

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

My husband is WP and only needs another SC 105pts so I can get Gold too. I am super keen for this to happen (obviously)!

However, he needs to do it by 30 Sept 2012! He has a couple of short trips booked, but will only earn him 40pts before it ticks over. So I am trying to convince him to do a JASA (which I have only just learned about thanks to these forums).

I am right that if he does CBR - SYD - MEL booked as a JASA then he will earn 80pts??

Yes. That's 40 status credits each for the CBR-SYD and SYD-MEL sectors. (Of course, make sure both are booked in Business)

If you travel to HKG on a regular basis, look at nesting a TPE back to Oz J fare in the mix, it's better value than using points in many cases.

Thanks Markis10 can these be booked as one way or do I have to book a return? And do I book thru Cathay or can you book with qantas?

Has to be a return, booked through the Taiwan CX site, currently circa $2K for the round trip. I have a mega trip planned for early next year, using my VS rewards to get to HKG then booking a CX return to TPE, with a side trip to SIN for a conference and a return home nested in as well.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Great thanks, enjoy your trip I hope it's not all for work. Thanks to this site I now have to try and ear enough money or points to travel at the pointy end. Made the mistake of doing a FASA and now I never want to go right ever again. How is the product on Cathay should I look out for a certain plane or is there a thread on here I should read up?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Looks like there might be some opportunities to do this with the current domestic business class sale. Saw some BNE-MEL JASA for about 33000 points in the Christmas period.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I flew Qantas 1st Hong Kong to London and Cathay London to Hong Kong in August 2011, on points.

I much preferred Cathay.

I also prefer to fly on an A380 where possible.

Hope this helps.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Well, I just bit the bullet and bought my first JASA for me and Mr k_sheep. BNE-xSYD-BKK for 60k + $400ish each. Will earn 160 SC and almost 12k points as a SG. I _think_ it's a reasonable price, given it's just before Easter. I know the SYD-BKK will be on an A332 which isn't great (I believe Skybed Mark I), but not much option there (day flight, so shouldn't be too bad). Took the chance on QF8/late down to SYD as Mr k_sheep has never been on a 747, let alone an upper deck of anything!

Gee it was hard to push that confirmed button and watching most of my hard-earned points disappear

Just after Easter you will have Mr k_sheep really getting on the plan so don't panic. Clicking confirm gets easier!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I have a question around booking a JASA. I'm looking at booking MEL-SIN and on the day I am looking, nothing is coming up at the classic amount. But from checking EF and also looking individually, I can see that if I go via BNE, I can get there using classics individually. So am I stuck in having to book and use points for two separate flights? If I call up the help desk, can I book it as one flight? Or is it only what they display on the website?

What day are you trying to book?

The day I was looking at is 23 March 2013 - but it is also a theoretical question :)

I can see it and book it as a connection online:JASA SIN.jpg

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

As of today I can't find a single classic priced JASA / FASA to anywhere, any time in the next twelve months.
It seems that 'U' and 'P' classes are no longer bookable as JASAs.
Here's hoping it's a temporary glitch and not a permanent enhancement.
