Yes, theyre back again.
Apologies if I made anyone nervous.

Seems ok on a couple of domestic dummy booking I just did.

I did some YASA checks as well, and seems in some cases that you can wind the slider back a bit further that I had expected.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Whilst I have booked a JASA or two in the past, there is one thing I have been unable to do. I would like to increase the connection time to allow for flight delays, and give more lounge time. A couple of times I have had to head straight from one flight to the next. My usual flight is MEL-xSYD-ADL

Is it possible to book a JASA or choose the flights that are more convenient (without using 'multi-city' which ends up costing points for each leg)?

Of course I could get to MEL super early and ask for an earlier flight, but I would like something more certain than that.

I would just book the best option you can get for the minimum points then call up & bring the first flight forward that has U class.

I did that with a HNL/SYD/DRW that permits a stopover in SYD however you have to book it as connecting flights then call up QF to move the SYD/DRW flight to a later date as it can't be done online.

Thanks Oz, I appreciate the advice. Phone call it is.

Is there a fee for changing it?.

No - one of the useful quirks of xASAs (ones that book into Classic Award fare buckets anyway) is no change fees, despite the fact that the equivalent Classic Award would have a 5,000pt change fee.

Handy to know, thanks.

I thought that this would be dependent on the fare class that the xASA books into.

For most domestic JASAs, they book into the regular (full) Business fare type, which have no change fees (but do carry phone assistance fees - hopefully this can be waived).

International JASAs usually book into Business Saver, which have no change fees as far as I can remember, but you can't refund them either (or there is a refund charge) - these rules change depending on where you are flying.

Also the system doesn't give you the ability to select only one flight to change (diy online) as it's similar to married segments so it must be done via res.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Another question on ASAs. I'm looking at flying from MEL -HKG on 27 March. If I try and book a FASA, there is none available. However, there is a FASA available from SYD-HKG. If I call up to book a FASA from MEL, taking a business class seat from MEL-SYD, will it only cost the 90,000 points+ or will I have to pay for the flights separately?

It's more so the "Fare Rules", other than that, as posted these can vary - so always check them (and copy them) when booking.

I have booked JASA for SIN-MEL with rules indicating a SG$301 change fee.

I was under the impression that the cheap xASAs - the ones we're all interested in - booked into the classic award fare buckets which are treated as "fully flexible" - i.e. no change/cancellation/etc fees. Based on your post and serfty's post perhaps I have this wrong, however - I can only personally verify no change / cancellation fees on domestic xASAs, not international xASAs. Apologies if I lead anyone astray.

I'd also add, for the benefit of Limewood and Jessica, that it's not uncommon for QFF CSRs to try to charge you a 5,000pt fee if you try to change/cancel a domestic xASAs which booked into a classic award fare bucket - if this happens, just insist there is no fee, ask them to double-check, and they'll discover that they're wrong.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Hi guys
I know this is a JASA thread but I have an FASA question.

When booking a classic F award into P, connections to the international gateway are included in U for no extra points.
Yet doing the same thing is impossible online with FASA.

ie. SYD-LAX = 144k points but CBR-SYD-LAX = 1,500,000 points?

If I call, can the call centre do it so that the cost is reflective of the classic award?

thanks
m

Hi Muppet
I am but a beginner at this and am prepared to be proved wrong

I would do this:

snaffle up the Syd-Lax flight

worry about the Canberra to Sydney later

I doubt you'll find a better Syd-Lax F deal.

I know you're right in terms of availability.
I guess I'm sort-of not convinced F is worth 50,000 points more than J given the reports I've seen (plus J includes connections).

I guess I'll do it so I've done it at least once. Thanks for the push.

I have done first and business in A380 and 747.
I doubt I'll ever pay cash for first as, especially in an A380, to me* it's only marginally better.
But points as FASA or an upgrade.....you gotta do it. Especially if it's a first

I've done both (A380 F and refit 747 J) and I'd go for F without hesitation unless you're really worried about conserving your points or plan to sleep the entire flight. Based on what you said about other reports perhaps I'm in the minority, but for me the extra 50k points is well and truly worth the difference between the two products.

Edit: And I'd recommend you go for F even more strongly if you haven't flown it before - at the very least it's an experience you have to try once.
