(OT a bit) No more HP's in BNE domestic QP!

I first had the Anchor Steam in SF and found it really good - difficult to be weaned from.

My intro to Anchor Steam was also at SFO. I had just completed a rather stressful 2-day exam in San Jose and driven up to SFO for a flight to LAX. I had about 3 hours to kill before my flight and decided I needed to find a bar to "celebrate" my successful exam result. Anchor Steam was on tap and I quickly found a liking for it, and its remained a special beer for me since.

Not too difficult, NM. Here I was, sitting in my swivel chair, feet off the floor trying to get off 111 and stay on the slightly OT topic. Not a problem. My first taste of Anchor steam was at a bar in Van Ness Avenue called Tommy's Place.

Speaking of liquid refreshments, the Air NZ domestic lounges have got the seasonal special beers back again Unfortunately there is too many to sample in a single visit. Fortunately I have more visits coming up.

I remember my first overseas trip from Oz (on Air NZ business class) that I was quite excited when I got to the lounge and found Budweiser in the fridge.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about beer.....

Good idea, NM I found the Anchor Steam a good drop. Recently in Hawaii, I found Kona Longboard pretty good too, even if there weren't many bubbles in the draught variety

I have tried the Kona Longboard. Wasn't to my taste, but quite happily finished off the 6 pack (no use throwing away good beer!).

Much better than some of the other watery type substances that they try to pass off as beer over there.

Seeing this thread has turned into a general beer thread, I thought I would add another of my pet gripes. Why are all of the beers onboard Qantas planes (even in First and Business) such low class beers? Does a J class pax really want a Fosters, VB, Crown or Carlton Mid? Why not have Boags or Cascade or some of the other beers that are held in high regard.

You don't notice the pattern?

Anyway, to some extent a lager is a lager is a lager. There may be slight differences between them but in the end people are swayed more by labels than actual taste (much like wines really). It would be nice if there was a bit more variation in the style of beers, like a stout or bitter, but if someone else is paying I can't see the mileage in being fussy.

Hmm.... Crown Lager a low class beer! I must remember that one next time I spend $50 on a carton.

Price certainly does not equate to quality.
Crownies would have to be one of the most over-rated beers going around.
If you happen to catch the local liquor store on a good day $40 can buy a lot better tipple!!
Can't wait for Dan Murphy's to make it over the Nullabor.

I agree - not much more than Foster's in a fancy bottle

Don't think so. I thought Boags was owend by San Miguel.

I've done some sampling today and HP's are certainly still available in the MEL and SYD Domestic QP's.

Still, the Coopers Pale Ale available on Tap at the ADL QP makes many of the other b**rs mentioned in this thread pale into insignificance ...
