PM returning from Hawaii

Love or loathe John Howard, as PM and in natural disasters, he seemed to have just the right touch. Though looking a bit daggy in RMs and Akubra I recall him talking to a man who'd lost everything and when the fellow burst into tears just hugged him. It was very touching and struck the right note. Tony Abbott always looked very awkward. The Kiwis have a gem in their PM too

Of course many of those people criticising the PM had a different tune with a former PM.
"The prime minister's presence at the bushfires is causing a security headache, taking him away from his work and looking increasingly self-indulgent. It's time he dropped the hose "

Typical hypocrisy of the perpetually angry and raged.

OK so Sc Mo has returned - he has apologised for his actions in going on hols - and has said if he had his time again he would make different decisions - end of matter?

Right?

Right? :( :D

He actually apologised if we were offended. So it's our fault if we were offended by his bad behaviour.
He deserves an advertising award for that one.

I think Iā€™ve heard that kind of apology from all flavours of politicians. Itā€™s what they do. And another variety was when our former Labor Government in SA was trying to launch a new policy that went over like a lead balloon. Their apology was to apologise that they hadnā€™t sold it well nor educated us properly. So the apology was nothing about poor policy but that we the great unwashed were not educated enough to understand it.

As far as I can tell, thereā€™s only one politician (or ex) making himself useful in the fires. What would really be newsworthy, would be seeing anyone from the Greens out helping.

This all seems like the sort of event where you put a General in charge, and keep all of the politicians out of the way.

It's the classic back handed non-apology that he has perfected.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers Scomo - please clap for the firefighters at your Sunday Service I'm sure they are thrilled you are back and apologies if you take offence to that.

Iā€™ll say re the haters. Have come out in this thread.
Inevitable really, they are gasping for a win after May 18th. It will be exactly the same in the UK as Boris bashing arises in the face of electoral defeat. No doubt Morrison made a poor decision, but for people to be calling for his resignation is just so OTT. One thing he won't be keen to do again though, is leave the nation in the hands of McCormack who is ineffective and has decided being caretaker is the same as being PM when it comes to making policy on the run.

So fires in QLD so the Premier goes on holidays.Come on I'm waiting for the condemnation. After all State Governments are responsible for Emergency services.
Fires in South Australia.Premier cancels NZ holiday.Maybe a kind word wouldn't go astray.

(I didn't vote for the Libs) - The fires have been burning for 6 months and the HATERS have said nothing until now. The man has been working for 12-14 hours a day for 365 days and he deserves a holiday with his family.

The minority haters have started to rule the world. The Majority need to take back the power!!!!!!

He didn't even do that.
He said he "regretted" it if anyone was offended.
An expression of regret is not an apology.

I'm hoping his children are not able to see that he says he regrets going on hols with the family. It is a sad situation for everyone, including the very unfortunate deterioration and name calling on AFF amongst comrades in travel. Unnecessary.
(Go, put on a suit and tie and carry the handbag into the music room and make a pud).

So really heā€™s damned if he does and damned if he doesnā€™t!

He has been earning a lot of kudos for what heā€™s doing. But now some have the temerity to diss him because they say heā€™s only doing it to embarrass the PM. I mean, f-s.
