Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Lots of $ being spent on home comforts. Yard/garden, renos, painting ect, lots of Bunnings vendors cant keep up with demand.
Definitely - still to happen
New deck outback
Small laundry refurbishment
New air conditioning

That kinda thing. Discussing with husband today and at this point in our life we won't spend the amount of money in Australia that we spent overseas. We are waiting and hoping that there is a bubble and we can go to Tokyo for a few days and enjoy
Mind you i have to say when I was young ( quite a few decades ago ) all we did was caravan parks and long car trips without air conditioning. Don't know if that impacts . Also we thought we would do the car trips when we are old . Regardless what son thinks we aren't old yet :)

... Even in years to come when I'm a grey nomad, think I'll still prefer Europe or SE Asia to caravanning around Australia.
Try not to become a grey nomad. I’ve been travelling parts of outback QLD for a couple of weeks, hearing ‘horrific’ stories from locals of nomads acting like bower birds, removing toilet rolls, basin plugs and shower heads in caravan parks, in fact anything that’s not bolted to the walls.

Kleptomaniacs on the move.

Nothing like slurring a huge group of people based up the actions of a few...who probably aren’t part of the group anyway.

Wow! we travelled in our caravan for 10 weeks in QLD & NSW and can honestly say I never saw or heard any evidence of this behaviour. On the contrary the grey nomads were very respectful, friendly and considerate people.

The caravan parks are all chockers at the moment. Ask the park owners what’s going on in there. They naturally don’t want to allienate their clientele, by making an issue about it. Most nomads do the right thing, but as for the rest .....

Edit: You came across the good ones

Agreed

I'll go with most people do the right thing but a few spoil it for everyone. Who is to say that it is any particular group causing the issue?

In some much needed good news, it seems like VIC is looking to begin accepting international arrivals again by the end of November - with a 2-week hotel quarantine, according to Executive Traveller:

Yes, good news, going to help a little bit with the “push to get people home by Christmas”, but opening at end of November only means 10 days worth of flights that will get people home by Christmas.

Thus far I’ve spend about 10 months (not in one hit) playing grey nomad. The only behaviour I’ve ever seen that was suss did not come from nomads. There are turds and bogans everywhere, but your generic insult to nomads is insulting, incorrect, and unnecessary.
Now. Now. Not generic insulting. Just because some AFFers have a caravan does not imply anything nefarious. Anyway, we can soon go overseas again and not have to deal with doing these thing in Oz.

Please let us know how your future caravan trips go, if residing in the parks, Try not to take any of this as an insult and become too defensive.

Edit: Apologies for remaining OT. However, I’m responding to a claim of making generic insults, which was never my intention.

Agreed.

BTW - career criminals do not stop their old ways when they get old.... :(

On to an equally dismal thought - I missed this Q 'enhancement' last week. Another cash flow saving measure, just this time a much longer hold of customers' cash - up to 12 months! That takes refunds into the 2021/22 financial year.

The quote from the ACCC (to me a cynic or pragmatist?) would seem to indicate that too many 'free memberships' have been accepted as revealed previously.

Interesting. Jetstar is still selling their routes to Hawaii from March/April

I wonder if this relates to it being an island that has controlled the virus much more effectively than the rest of the United States. I know that they only recently opened up to visitors using a negative Covid test within 72 hours of arrival as your permit to entry. I keep meaning to check on their case numbers to see if this opening up has had a negative impact on their control of the virus. If not, I wonder if there is a thought that Hawaii may form its own travel bubbles…

Hawaii is currently running at ~75 cases a day. Adjusting for population, that's about the same as if Victoria was running at 350 cases a day. There may be bubbles. But I'd be very surprised if Australia features in them unless those numbers come down dramatically

Hawaii starts a travel bubble with Japan on November 6. Same deal in that travellers must have a negative CV test before departure.

Is it a travel bubble though? Or just a relaxation of quarantine requirements in one direction?

While Hawaii hasn't had a 2nd bubble, it's still way too high for us I suspect and 72hrs from mainland US isn't exactly sufficient.

Afaik Japan is a one way bubble. Japanese tourists still have to do 14 days quarantine on return.

Agreed, will not happen.

What is happening in Hawaii is that 'Mainlanders' are using it to escape the much higher CV rates there. Just as many dual-nationals, close relatives of Australian permanent residents or Australian citizens are doing here. The daily rate of +CV tests for air arrivals into Sydney is running around 1.2 to 1.7%.

The exodus to Hawaii is running at such rates that many houses listed for sale are now sold within 2-5 days of listing without the buyers stepping foot into them nor getting them inspected, they're asking for rapid settlement (BIG risk in the US due to privatised property deeds it literally is Buyer Beware) & then turn up to do their mandatory quarantine in them. Causing some disquiet amongst long term 'new arrivals' who retired to Hawaii.

Similarly nearly all the places that were previously being listed for vacation rentals are being snapped up for long term leases often within 1 day of listing. Since this surge/exodus began in July (coincidence with Melb?) the +CV rate on all the Hawaiian Islands has shot up.
