Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Even before the pandemic, I often used ADL as an entry point for QR flights returning from Turkey, Africa or Europe since QR didn't fly to BNE. What will happen with squabbling premiers and what's to stop me from using this route again if AP is not playing nicely with others?
This is a live question as it will require the Feds to pass regulations to keep state closures and lockouts going for the Covid-zero states. The feds could repeal the Biosecurity Act regulations whenever they feel confident enough to go ahead.

Not only that, how do domestic connections work if you need to quarantine at home? Your ADL/BNE flight after getting off QR won't be "dirty". I don't think they can while we do quarantine.

Well only your ability to get back into QLD on return, I guess @Tiki. She could shut the border totally as is currently happening, or make you go to hotel quarantine at your expense.

If we are at 80% she will find it hard to justify closing domestic borders. And hopefully by then she will be wanting tourists back in QLD, I think QLD will need the income.

While the world is in pandemic mode with potentially things (borders, lockdown, etc) at the drop of a hat - its fly direct, don’t connect (even domestic is not “safe”)

Edit: of course QF1/2 is impossible to be direct logistically but at that point it’s all on Qantas

I am more than happy to quarantine at home on return. If QR codes are still a thing, I would even go so far as to stay at home the 2 weeks prior to avoid accidentally being a close contact.

Wow, UAE is 74.2% double vax and Qatar is 71.5%. That's 2 major transit hubs that will probably easily hit 80% by the time we are let out of jail!

This is my concern as I will need to get back into Queensland after flying back into Sydney in (hopefully) January as I think it will then be too early to expect everything to be back to normal. I'm pretty certain I will still be doing hotel quarantine once and maybe twice! But happy to be proved wrong of course....

Though important to note they use a range of vaccines, some of which are not approved in Australia and never will be.

Actually Qatar is Moderna/Pfizer. UAE and Turkey have some Chinese but I know for a fact Turkey is boostering everyone who got the Chinese one with Pfizer, mostly the older people.

I believe UAE Iceland Qatar Singapore are top 2 (Edit: typo, meant top 5) in first or second dose. Almost touching or over 80% of the population (ie better % of eligible)

Other than Iceland those are all my preferred transit points! I usually do EK outbound and QR or SQ on return. But since I have at least 76k SQ expiring in April 2022 I may have to burn those first since I use QF on EK or QR and those won't expire.

Yes I was very glad that Seat Son in Dubai held off on the offer of the various Chinese vaccines and waited for the AZ - and he was 29 when he got the reviled and dreaded AZ, and was delighted to get it. Vaccine snobbery against Chinese vaccines, but I’m pleased he waited given the reports of concerns with approval process and efficacy of the Chinese. I think he told me that they are also using Sputnik.
UAE is a very unequal society, and his take is that most of the foreign workers (think Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino/Filipina, Indian) got the Chinese and Russian vaccines. Ex-pat workers ( think US, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, Singapore) got the AZ or mRNA. He doesn’t know what Emiratis got, but assumes it was gold plated!

But AZ is not approved in the USA which will apparently be greenlighted.
Indeed, which may present an issue for anyone looking to visit, but in this case if a country being 80% vaccinated is the marker then it won't include non approved vaccines.

This is the short term, in my opinion. As time goes on I think we will see more convergence and possibly international agreement on standards.

I think in terms of destinations Spain and Portugal also appear top 5...... 😅

Down the bottom of the SMH (and The Age) “Vax Tracker“ page there‘s a handy colour coded map and list of countries progress to the Who 60% and 70% (total pop) vax progress.

You‘d think the CofA will be using these stats in shaping thinking? Although, I do agree with earlier comments that some countries are using vaxes not approved here and that could be an issue.

From the NSW presser just now,

''At 80% double dosed, we look forward to reopening international travel again and we look forward to welcoming back 1000's and 1000's of Australians into the country. Once you hit 70% double dose numbers, hotel quarantine looks different. Quarantine looks different.''

I think our future is set if you live in NSW :) Feel bad for the WA and QLD'ers.

This would be the most obvious breach of the constitution and there is no way the Commonwealth would support such a move, and the Victorian government also couldn't stop you leaving the state - only entering
