Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

As someone in VIC I'll be interested to see if one can fly from VIC to NSW and then from there to overseas if NSW moves ahead of VIC.
Why shouldn’t you be able to? Similar to those who went to NZ and then onto freer pastures.

Gladys just confirmed, for Aussies overseas, they can come home for Christmas if they come through Sydney and can home quarantine in NSW - assuming we get to the 80% double jabbed rate and they themselves are double jabbed. She didn't say but it obviously assumes the federal government doesn't backflip.

There's nothing preventing Australians returning and it's up to each state to manage quarantine. It's the exit that the Feds control.

Sadly not the case, the caps are controlled by the federal government. Yes in practice the states set them but they don't have the authority to restrict international arrivals, the feds do.

It's also a federal requirement for hotel quarantine but again in practice it's run by the states.

I think we should all know by now that the states have been running things so we can be pretty sure that this won’t be overturned.

I expect something similar from VIC and that’s the ballgame.

Plus it solves the "Stranded Aussies" argument, and just in time for Christmas. They still will have to quarantine if they are going to a Covid-zero jurisdiction but they can be considered "home."

I expect if Dan is asked about international travel he'll probably say something like 'Now is not the time to talk about international travel. To get your freedoms back the best thing you can do is to go out and get vaccinated and as we get closer to 80% fully vaccinated I'll be able to talk more about what that will look like.'

Do we know any details? The one I'm most interested in is how many days is the quarantine? Is it 7 or 14?
Also if anyone know the kind of homes that they are trialling in? e.g. detached housing only? in apartment complexes too? duplexes? town houses?

The early comments in SA were the premises had to be separate from others and within two hours of the airport. We will have to vacate to a shack. Haven't heard anything about the actual details happening now though as part of the trial.

Article in The AGE / SMH Traveller.
A bit of an Apples and Oranges comparison article. In sone ways, OZ locals ought to see what the EU is doing as a positive. They’re not just opening the flood gates but managing the residual risks. Same as we plan to do with the 70/80 milestones. Also, much of Europe has still not reached the 60% total pop target pushed by the WHO. Although some are doing better than others.

Meanwhile, the USA is only around 50% and Delta is going after the weakest links - so not exactly surprising that they’re back on the cough list. We’ll probably overtake the US on % vax’d at current rates!

For what its worth ... QF killed off a single leg of a trip in Jan (my return from uk, hopefully)
Rather than the usual - single leg removal the whole thing got cancelled for some reason.

called up QF today (2 hours 54 minutes on hold) and got it sorted. Seems there are a number of flights avail that are taking reward seats that are NOT appearing in the search mechanism that i'm sure we are all familiar with.

I am concerned re: the USA and acceptance of AZ as being vaccinated. That being said, as someone who was fully vaccinated with AZ in June, I want some kind of booster before I travel to the USA. Wonder how they will classify someone with a double AZ and then a Moderna or Pfizer booster. Last thought on the whole USA recognizing AZ - between the UK and Canada, if the USA does not recognize AZ jabs, then they are designating millions of vaccinated people as being unvaccinated for USA purposes.

Also wondering how Aus will treat those who have been double jabbed with Sinovac and Sinopharm or Sputnik. Some of these vaccines will be very prevalent in the overseas student population.

The US are sitting on about 50mil AZ jab orders that they’ve committed to gifting once they get FDA approval. Fingers cross that comes soon.

Pz only just got their full FDA approval in the last few days. All those previous jabs were under “emergency approval”. AZ didn’t bother applying for interim emergency approval because there wasn’t a perceived need for domestic US use.

It‘s probably still too early to see how countries will treat “boosters”. We still don’t have an agreed worldwide system for 1st round of vax!

Agree. And the other thing is that this article is talking only about casual, "touristy" leisure travel. I would think that most people have accepted that that scenario is quite a long way off yet. I think what most Australians want is to be reunited with their families and/or to be allowed back into their own country, which is a totally different scenario to tourist travel. It's hard not to get anxious that all this news of Delta spreading throughout the world (aided by tourist travel) is going to have a negative effect on Australia's plan to allow AUSTRALIANS (and their immediate family members) back into Australia by the end of the year......
Just my 2 cents worth.....probably worth a lot less than that LOL

The travel ban has been extended to December 17 the day before QF expects to resume flights to a limited number of destinations.
Now that I am booked SYD-LHR I feel a sense of calm. Yes plenty of unknowns, but hope is rising.

If this is the last extension of the existing travel ban, I will be quietly confident about my travel next March.

My brother working for Border Force has said they are processing quite a few Afghans at present.

I hope travel bubbles open up before December 17 even if quarantine is required. If we can’t travel till December 18 getting away for Christmas may be impossible with huge demand and limited seats. I’d be prepared to go earlier in December.

I think Singapore might be the first bubble and the states can opt in when ready as per the TT bubble. If its anything like the new Singapore / Germany bubble you'll need 4 negative tests....
