Priority Privilege worth it?

I think, the only response to what you have indicated, is that you 'should' have read the T&Cs on either the voucher or the website ...

But really, if you didn't get to use the voucher 'that' time ( and now you know 'how' it's to be used ) ... just keep it for next time.

Also, if you had of read my post ( on this Forum ) on almost exactly this issue, you would have been forewarned ...

Oh, and regarding your statement about the hotel restaurant requiring "two main meals" ...

That's not quite right either ...

At HI Potts Point, I have used my PP card to purchase two entrees and two glasses of wine, and I successfully obtained the 50% discount ...

... because, I purchased food and drink for two people ( not to "share" ).

If you had of purchased two pizzas and two salads, you would have paid exactly the same as you did for one pizza and one salad !! ( so, how smart was that ?? )

Not correct, at lunch and dinner a single cover is entitled to 25% off, so a $20 pizza and salad combo would cost $15 for one cover, $20 for two covers.

That's according to the T&Cs, sure ...

but as we often hear, people 'can' convince hotel staff to 'apply' the rules and provisions how they see fit ...

I've never known the meal discount to be based on anything but the number of mains ordered. When you have a child if you order them a main off the adults menu you will get the 33% based on 3. But if the child shares or orders from the child's menu or has a entrée of the adults menu as my daughter likes to do, you get the 50% discount based on 2.

It certainly pays, to review the T&Cs occasionally ...

Just took another look again ...

Points of interest, related to the Dining offers ...

There is ref. to "adult meals" ... not 'mains'. ( this is where staff flexibility can allow for 'entrees' to be served to 'children', and still derive the full PP benefit ... but perhaps not in every situation ? )

There is ref. to 'surrendering the certificate upon check-in' in regard to the $50. voucher ... ( along with 'no other usage permitted, aside from food & beverage' )

etc. etc.

Thus, whinges about 'can't use for car-parking' or 'children's menus' are clearly dealt with in the T&Cs ...

What isn't in the T&Cs, is the rules for the $100. vouchers that seem to be issued for renewing one's Membership at particular times ...

These ones need to be handed over to the hotel restaurant at the time of dining ... not when checking out ( and no PP card can be used in conjunction etc. )

Often it's a $100 voucher or an extra BOGO, not exactly a hard choice.

Thanks all for the comments. I am well versed in the terms and conditions of the PP Club. I've been a member for 7 years. I stay at Potts Point regularly and have often shared a pizza and salad with my wife and received the 50% discount on many occasions. The terms and conditions never stipulate "2 main meals" have to be ordered for the 50% discount. It mentions the total food bill will be discounted with NO qualification as to what the meals comprise. When I complained to the PP spokesperson by phone I was immediately directed to paragraph 3 in the General terms and conditions that say that the t&c's can be changed at any time whenever they like without a reason. This totally nullifies PP from honouring any of the t&c's fullstop. They go out of their way to make it appear that the rules are rock solid but in actual fact they are not. That one paragraph gives the company total control and the customer zero. I was told that I have to negotiate with every hotel I visit to find out what their rules are. That it seems would be a lengthy process considering the number of t&c,s there are. But that makes a mockery of the original terms and conditions !!!! This new trend in bending the rules is what my main gripe is all about.

I think, that's almost standard everywhere these days ...

QANTAS can and do change their QFF program ( but do make it known to Members ); IHG change their Rewards Program often enough ( harder to navigate through ), and I've just recently experienced a few surprises from a 'car rental' company, concerning their Rewards program, etc. etc.

At least with PP, a Member can't suddenly have a million Rewards Points wiped off their account, due to some obscure change of Policy ...

There you go. I was taken by surprise when the charge on my CC was the same as joining. starthere is no good for renewal though is it.

And now I have renewed I cannot try it :( :( Can't seem to get a hit on PP on starthere either. Was it just a short term offer ?

I renewed PP today during a phone call from them. My PP ran out on 15 Jan 2014 and although I had received two email offers to renew, the "free" bottle of wine on offer was not enough to make me bother since a lot of my stays now centre around PNG (which don't recognise any of the card benefits).

During this call, I learnt a bit more which I'll share here but it may be common knowledge anyway.

The deal offered is
- 2 x transferable BOGOs (which he claimed was new this year, but I had that last year as well)
- 2 x 25% discount vouchers (also transferable I think)
- 2 x bottles of wine of my choice to the value of $80 each
- the $50 certificate is now $150 and can be used for any in-house service including valet parking, laundry, massage etc
- he tells me a minimum 5 hotels a month will honour BOGO certificate and return it for reuse. when I suggested we had that last year, he replied only three hotels a month was on that deal. I have no idea but it sort of sounded a bit like an enhancement, as it seems you need a BOGO to now book the 241 newsletter deals. I'm not convinced on the benefit there.
- still have the same dining benefits I believe.
- fee reduced to $308
- apparently next year I get a second dining card.
- I can now book suites with a BOGO (told him I did this last year as well)

The second bottle of wine was a sweetener as I said I can't use the card in PNG. He told me I could use the card in PNG for dining benefits up until I let him know that I'd tried but to no avail and he then suggested that the 20% accommodation discount was available at all hotels......I need to read these schemes more as I didn't even realise there was a 20% discount applicable.

Honestly? I see $308 worth of value, but I'm thinking I may have been told a few porkies. I'll see when the pack arrives.

The telephone sales team are definitely in the category of Avoid. An earlier suggestion of never entering your correct phone number applies.
I am a member purely for the smorgasbord at the IC Sydney and it saves us money with the free meals.

Well update on this post.

As of today, the PP pack has not arrived so I telephoned PP and got a lady who gave her name as Jessica. She apologised, said I should have my pack and said she'd arrange for another one to be sent out. I asked her if the new pack would have all the goodies and I read them out to her. She seemed a bit surprised that someone had actually written down the lies they were being told and she stated that my membership did not even include 1 bottle of wine, let alone two. She relented and agreed to supply one bottle of house wine between the value of $50 and $70. I said that was not acceptable. The offer I accepted was TWO bottles of wine of my choice to the value of $80.

To cut a long call short, Jessica refused to agree to anything more, refused to cancel my membership (stating I was outside my 21 day cooling off period, despite they still have not given me my pack) and refused to transfer me to anyone in management. She kept repeating no one was available yet my question (repeatedly) was How do I contact management.

PP seems to be the scam many people are suggesting it is. They do provide some benefits, but their sales staff promise what they have no intention of delivering and the fact this happens multiple times and management refuse to discuss with disgruntled customers, tends to suggest this is not just common practice, but taught practice. Oh, well, a CC reversal is coming their way!
