Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Currently on board QF 678 ADL-MEL had the Turkey Pesto sandwich which I really enjoyed. The Lord had tomato spinach quiche and other option seasonal fruit. All with a delicious apple rhubarb cake. And as always the Lady enjoyed a cheeky Sparkling Wine or Two (Lois) View attachment 346548
I spotted the Lane's Lois sparkling on a QF domestic flight I took this weekend ex-MEL, in place of the dreadful Grant Burge. Hopefully this is a permanent change, as it is a significantly nicer sparkling wine!

Anyway to the sandwich. Not much here for scale but I hope you get the idea when looking at the slice of sourdough. Laughable. I had eaten a lot in the preceding 24 hours or so, including a bit in the QF J Lounge at SIN so I wasn't actually hungry. But still.

Also when orders were taken I was asked if I wanted dessert, which I said yes to. But it never appeared and I didn't see anyone else get it either. I was tired and the IFE broke for the second time, so I just tried to get some sleep instead.
Breakfast was better, but not by much. Muesli good, coffee standard. I don't understand why they don't proactively offer real coffee (i.e. espresso etc). I could've probably broken through the fuselage with that brioche roll it was so dry and hard. Another Neil Perry hit (& run).

That's all simply disgraceful, let alone the hard product failures. I'm truly willing QF to get back in the saddle and offer an experience they are capable of, if management allowed it, but can see little progress so far. Anyone interested to see how other airlines perform with breakfast on 1-4 hour flights, look here for a TK breakfast on one hour international flight (and a A321 galley) and here for breakfast muesli and brioche on EY on a four hour flight (also a A321 galley). Honestly ...

Not quite SIN-MEL, but I was on SIN-SYD recently. 7:30pm departure.

Assume SIN-MEL is near identical. Very light service for `dinner` and breakfast.
I don't know, if I could have fruit, a Danish, a bowl of cereal and a bacon and egg roll for my breakfast I'd consider it a reasonable offering. Alas I know that's not how QF's thinking works but that shows how far off the mark they are.
 
On the trans pacfic flights QF do give you fruit + pastry + yogurt + cereal and an hot option.
 
Sad to see some of those recent reviews. I had done SYD-DFW and LAX-SYD about two months ago and really enjoyed both experiences, including the meals (full reviews somewhere up-thread). But some of the recent meal pics are just sad to see.

Qantas has always been consistently inconsistent and it seems that this hasn’t changed. It’s neither as bad as some Qantas bashers make it (since post-Covid, Qantas has blown almost all competitors I’ve flown out of the water in my eyes, and this specifically includes SQ which has been rather underwhelming in my eyes- granted, QR is miles ahead of them all) but it’s also definitely not worth the up charge if you pay for QF outright (I was luckily code-sharing on an AA ticket which was a real bargain).

Ham and cheese croissant - I think the picture says enough. Bakery item was a coconut and orange muffin.

The other option was a pumpkin and goats cheese quiche with tomato and spinach on the side. That ran out by 2C, clearly no one felt like a soggy croissant.

Barramundi in "spicy sauce"

Decent portion of barramundi topped with a nice tomato and onion sauce, well cooked potatoes and beans on the side. I guess the catering kitchen ran out of chilli though, this was 0/10 spicy and probably negative on the Scoville scale.

The other option was veal ravioli with mushroom sauce. Wines were a Schwarz Shiraz (from what I could catch on the label as the cart went past) and Hay Shed Hill Sav Blanc Semillon.

I had the same on Sunday MEL-HBA. I think your crew left some things out? I'd call the bakery a friand.

QF685 The lord and I enjoyed poached chicken noodle soup in the Lounge, then a cheese plate on board (other on board options beef pie or chicken and sweetcorn soup) and of course this Lady had a few cheeky sparkling wines inc before landing a very full plastic cup of sparkling (I’m ok with plastic if it means an extra cheeky drink)

A good example of just how much difference presentation can make - not just the side garnish, but also proper plating. Ours was 'unfoiled' on the cart in front of us and served piping hot.
 
QF76 YVR- SYD 27 Sep.

I'd had a large meal in the lounge so only had a cheese plate and fruit. Although, the menu didn't hold much appeal for me.

Drink refills totalled 2. The crew seemed to disappear not long after the dinner service.

Breakfast had new choices, and I elected for the pancakes, cold pressed juice, toast and coffee.

The pancakes were not too bad, light but not fluffy with a sensible amount of maple syrup. The bacon was regular North America fatty and the eggs seemed 'real'. The tomatoes were quite tasty.

One difference I noted between AA and QF is the utensils; QF leave them in the chiller whilst AA do not. I prefer room temp forks, not 4°.

This and the 787 I went to Dallas on did have expresso coffee machines. The Dallas crew knew how to use it, the YVR crew did not.
Were they running short of big plates (doesnt look like there’s much space to move the ingredients around with the bacon looking like they are about to land on the tray) or is that QF‘S idea of making a small portion look bigger?

I believe it is so that their small portions look larger.

Side note - cabin was roasting hot in LHR and SIN - some APU issue presumably. Boarding delayed 1hr in LHR to try and get the cabin bearable. No PDB beverage in either port, and in SIN the seat controls and IFE were turned off until after takeoff, to try and control the cabin temp. Lights dimmed on the ground also.

As mentioned in prior post, no PDB. Crew were visible though, hassling passengers for their breakfast cards, to serve in about 12 or 13 hours time :rolleyes:.

I had an absolute feast across 3 lounges at LHR so some vegetable options appealed.

Soup. Neil's leaves were mostly wilted, just like the level of service.

Polenta. I know they are pan fried but they tasted deep fried to me. Far too greasy to be enjoyable, really poor execution. Beans cooked nicely.

Breakfast (arrival time in to SIN: 1730hrs. Why do airlines do this?). Juice quite lovely, fruit fresh, The egg bowl was actually decent, and to my surprise had two poached eggs. They were slightly runny which was a welcome surprise. However the lot was swimming in liquid, almost like a soup at the bottom (not egg yolk). Really bizarre and took it down a notch or two. Croissant one of the better ones I've had in flight.

QF413 SYD-MEL

Quiche with goats cheese, muesli was another option. Sorry can't fully recall, this was the end of a long haul indeed.

Service on the flight though was excellent and way beyond what I experienced on both legs of QF2. Go make of that what you will. Delicious food though, I enjoyed every bit of this meal. Snagged an A330 which was a nice change to the 737 which was originally scheduled when I booked earlier in the year.

31 August 2023 - QF35 - MEL to SIN (B787-900)
I had originally booked flights to SIN through PER but cancelled for the more direct route. Also wanted to maximise the B787 experience. Unfortunately on booking, there wasn't much available in the forward cabin (only aisle side seats could be selected) and thus chose a window seat in the mini-cabin. I would now recommend those flying J on the B787 to try and select forward cabin seats where possible as the noise (there were two upset children at the front) and the toilet traffic from PE made it less private than what people may expect.

No PDB offered even though multiple FAs passed by with trays going to J and PE. This flight was delayed about 45-50mins from the scheduled departure time. It was not until about an hour after take-off that I was offered a beverage with the apertivo.

Got the apertivo (unlike my SYD to HKG flight previous to this). Arancini ball was about average but positively crispy. Had the Champagne (Jacquart) which was delicious. I had originally requested a Sky Spritz but somehow my drink never came and when asked for again later on soon after, they apparently had run out of ingredients. Disappointing.

QF soups - I skip them at almost all costs. I chose the prawn salad to start. Vibrant, light and generally refreshing. A little spicy with zing and one I would get again. Cannot go past the butter and sourdough combo of course.

Mains arrived more than 90 minutes post departure. Another good steak. More rare than previous attempts which I prefer. Little silverbeat and carrot accompanying the protein were excellent too. Champagne was enjoyed to compliment.

Dessert I had to go with the always 'solid' ice cream sandwich. This one arrived hard as a rock though so I had to wait as it defrosted on the napkin while I had the creamy Lindt chocolate in the mean-time. I think I prefer the caramel pecan flavour to the vanilla.

Pre arrival - the quiche. Tasty and cheesy. Relish was tart. More champagne enjoyed. Some may recognise that my connecting flight also featured a quiche. I was over-quiched that day.

Overall a good dining experience. Quality of food exceeded my expectations. As for the service - despite the beverage delay/no beverage situation early on, it was made up by a couple of quality FAs later in the flight who's energy changed my mood. Nothing beats attentive service with good positive energy and attitude. I prefer the J service in F on the QF A380 I had previously to a certain extent but that is largely incomparable.

*I have this test of how easy it is to get water refills for the supplied water bottle during the flight. The water bottle was refilled willingly and remained full more often than not. They apologised for not supplying a new bottle on the first occasion which seems moot. In any case, excellent.

Flew QF21 MEL-DFW a couple of weeks ago. I was reasonably satisfied with the experience. I feel the effort has improved in small ways (I flew SYD-DFW earlier in the year) and overall qualify was possibly a little bit better with decent service levels (but J is still slow to get going - though on a 1245 departure for 15 hours this doesn't matter as much as a late night one).

Someone earlier commented about coffee/espressos and I had actually moved to tea for on board beverage with brekky because the QF coffee is pretty ordinary in most cases, but with the pre-brekky service, they did serve piccolos of lattes, and that was pretty decent. On reflection, had this before on QF (but was missing on flights earlier in the year). Still, the tea was just fine.

I didn't overstuff myself in the Flounge prior so did take the full lunch service and found offerings and portions pretty good and I wasn't left hungry (and then there were snacks mid flight).

Overall a very solid experience. Was it QR or SQ? No.. but it was not terrible (and much much better than UA). No real complaints.


(I flew home on JL which was a whole other experience but not really relevant to this thread :) )

Your comment re coffee is interesting.

I've found it depends on the crew / your status what type of coffee you get. The 787 is equipped to make proper coffee (not the pot brewed / pot stuff) but it's hit and miss whether it's offered.

On one of my flights back from DFW last year the CSM proactively offered me a 'proper coffee' as he called it but didn't seem to offer it to m/any other pax. On another trip just got the usual pot stuff.

Agree. SYD-DFW was decent expresso coffee done well.
YVR-SYD may as well have been stewed/brewed it was so bad.

Not even close to CX pre-covid cawfee but.
 
I'm pretty sure the "espresso" coffee is just some form of pod system. I don't think there is a grinder and brew head being used on an aircraft (but I'm just supposing here).
