re: Qantas Cash Card

Hi all
Just to save me from trawling through all the pages, I am going to Bali shortly and was wondering which currencey I should load. By default I have been loading aussie dollars. I only intend to use for cash withdrawals, in Indonesian money.
What currency should I load the card in and why?

Also why is it that the QFF card does not have Indonesian money on it as a default, with so many OZ people going there, it seems logical to me.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers
You'll be charged a currency conversion fee in any case so you might as well continue to load in your default currency.

I probably wouldn't be loading the qantas cash card at all going to bali.

Do you have a regular credit card? it might be better to put that into credit and use it rather than QF cash. Or even take Aussie dollars in cash and exchange them QF will slug you from what i understand.

re: Qantas Cash Card

We have decided to give this a go in NZ. It seems to be working fine. BUT I am constantly told , when using it here , that I will be paying a CC surcharge ( usually about 1.5%) it's a real struggle getting the locals to believe that it's a Dr card not a Credit card. We shall see what charges accrue and report back

Its a credit card to them, it's never a debit card as you can't use the savings button, so the surcharge is applicable given the fees charge by the provider is how they can pay for the points.

re: Qantas Cash Card

only place I have been able to use it as a debit card (pressed debit not credit) is at Coles using the self serve check out and then using paywave/paypass

however I just double checked a receipt and it has come up credit, so coles must have an automatic system that just changes my debit pressing to credit authorisation when it recognises im using the Qantas card.

Pay pass is a Credit system.

"Debit" is EFTPOS ( ie. Pressing CHQ/SAV), processed via the EFTPOS system. Pressing "Credit" or using pay pass processes via Visa/MasterCard.

You can not press SAV and then use Paypass.

One or the other.

A debit card is a credit card for all intents and purposes to the vendor.

The difference is only to you in the form of account/T&Cs/protections.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Seriously annoyed with this card. All day I have been declined, despite having an a/c balance of + $1000.00. Finally managed to override it by opting to sign instead of pin .
QF. You will be hearing from me next week

re: Qantas Cash Card

It worked when I chose 'savings' at Rydges in Christchurch when they wanted to charge a 'credit card' surcharge

So either I misunderstood , or this is really a waste of time and effort.

Treat it as a credit card with no annual fees or interest on your side, with similar loan shark margins as most cards when it comes to forex rates. For the merchant, in most countries it too is seen as a credit card as it has fees they have to pay, for example the mastercard intercharge fees as below for in country transactions plus the banks fee on top of that:

OMG. I transferred money into my account yesterday and it's now available for me to use. 1 day turnaround! How did they become more efficient all of a sudden.

:) Unbelievable. Perhaps there's been a systems improvement. I did a transfer last week and it was three days.

That's great! I did a transfer today, so will be interesting to see if it hits QCash tomorrow, otherwise it will normally hit account Friday morning.

That's good as the quickest I've experienced is 48 hours.

Of course once you have any currency on the card, transferring to another currency is instant.

Once I've departed that country I sweep those funds over to the currency of my next destination so I'm not left with bits of currency all over the place.

re: Qantas Cash Card

QF Cash is Platinum Prepaid so I bet it comes under that Consumer Premium interchange rate.

re: Qantas Cash Card

I transferred money on Monday - no sign of it yet! :(

re: Qantas Cash Card

Not surprised as Monday was a Public Holiday, you should receive it tomorrow morning (hopefully) :)

As of 10.03 this morning my transfer done on Monday is available so 2 business days for me. :)
