Hmmm. The devil is in the detail.
I know nothing about the process but to me "wholly owned subsidary" rules EK out - and JQ in.

If the whole thing turns out to be a simple codeshare agreement, then any one with QF status might need to consider just how this is going to impact them. Like, what are you going to do for a lounge in Dubai. How is seat selection going to work? How is priority check in going to work? What are redemptions going to be like?
... although EK are not going to tolerate 40% loads across the ditch forever.
with fuel the way it is i'd say the fuel used while taxiing would cover the parking bill!Isn't the tasman legs just to save $$$ on parking fees in Syd/Mel while at the same time adding a nice freight / pax destination to the route map? Even at 40% load factor, its probably cheaper than parking all day in Sydney?

An A380 clocks up $150 an hour at SYD in a standoff bay, the parking bill is negated by startup and taxi to 16 for takeoff. It's a sad fact of life that aircraft are cheaper to park than cars at our airports when you look at the cost versus real estate used, then again they are airports!
Is there still a press conference scheduled for 9am EST tomorrow? I don't want to get up early for nothing.

Qantas would no longer fly to Frankfurt, its last port in mainland Europe.
Not happy at all if they get rid of SIN-FRA.
I prefer FRA over LHR when getting into Europe. Also this move would mean more pressure on getting ASA's into LHR!
