Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

I was in precisely the same boat as you last year, having earned QF Gold status through a status match in 2021 and hoping my status credits earned in 2021 to qualify for status match would roll over. Sadly that wasn't the case. That being said, the year after my status match (Dec 1, 2021 - Nov 31, 2022), I managed to earn 610 status credits of which 250 status credits were rolled over.

As others have mentioned there is a paternity leave status support option Qantas offers. You may be able to plead your case over the phone to an agent. If that doesn't work out, don't worry, at least you'll have QF Gold for the following year which frankly isn't a bad consolation prize particularly if you aren't travelling regularly.

Thanks, am curious how do I read the 'status hold' - Putting aside that it has been >6 months, it says "Status Hold is available for parents who are taking at least six consecutive months leave from paid employment to spend time with their family. Both parents can apply"
As I said, my wife stopped work for a year, but I continued working. Is the read-through that the statement "both parents can apply" means both parents must have stopped working? Or would the fact that my wife stopped working, mean I could also apply (even though I was still working)? Hope that makes sense

DSC don't count to the loyalty bonus. They did back when loyalty bonuses were first introduced, but QF quickly decided that was too generous.

You need to get 500 standard credits to get a loyalty bonus. Retaining/Gaining Platinum solely on QF flights without any status credits rollover you would get at least one loyalty bonus as 1000 SC including DSC is going to include at least 500 standard SC.
Correct. Only Qantas and JetStar "base" status credits earned on flights counts to the loyalty bonus. However, the double status credits do count towards lifetime status so it's all not that bad.

My reading of that term is that both parents can apply for the status hold. So if the husband has say QF Gold status whereas the wife has QF Platinum 1 status they could both request the hold to their individual statuses respectively. Your best bet though would be to call up QFF and see if they can provide any leniency to the policy.

Both parents can apply but the person applying must be on leave from work.

If you can get the status credit roll over great, but I must warn you not to expect it. If I was you (and I'm not you by the way), I'd plan to earn those 600 status credits (it's actually 500) in the coming year to re-qualify for status. In case you're wondering how to re-qualify with just 500 status credits here's how ya do it:
  • Earn 500 status credits flying Jetstar or Qantas during your program year. When you do you'll earn a loyalty bonus of either 8000 bonus points or 50 status credits (choose the 50 status credits)
  • Earn Qantas Green during the year (basically 5 simple activities you can hash out in a couple of minutes). You again earn 8000 bonus points or 50 status credits (again choose the 50 status credits)
This was precisely how I retained QF Gold last year (despite it not being required). Ultimately I took around a dozen trips during the year which earned me those 500 status credits. The major trips being:
  • SYD to HNL (JQ Plus fare - 90 status credits)
  • SYD to PER (JQ Max fare - 100 status credits)
  • SYD to DRW (JQ Max fare - 100 status credits)
  • SYD to CNS (JQ Max fare - 60 status credits)
  • SYD to TSV (JQ Max fare - 60 status credits)
This past month I racked up >600 status credits taking a couple of flights:
  • SYD > AKL > MEL (480 SCs - QF discount J fare booked during double status credits with connections in each direction)
  • CBR > SYD (via MEL) (40 SCs - QF red e-deal booked during double status credits promotion)
  • SYD > CHC (80 SCs QF Flex fare)
In terms of general advice, I'd check to see if you earned Qantas Points Club. If you did, congrats you'll earn status credits on classic award flights. I'd also wait for Qantas to announce their now perennial double status credits promotion which as the name suggests lets you earned double the normal status credits on QF flights booked during a certain time period (usually a week) typically for travel occurring within a year of booking.

Thanks RooFlyer. I am not expecting the rollover, just a nice to have if they will manually roll it for me. I am spending a few months in Europe so will take advantage of cheap BA J fares to get the SC needed to maintain gold.

My FF year ended 31st Jan but I still haven’t seen any rollover SCs besides the 100 for being a Points Club plus member. I definitely have earned a fair bit of SCs by flying over the next year so I definitely should get some.

Qantas states the rollover SCs would show up in “Early February” so is it normal to not have gotten them? I’m hesitant to waste my time calling if they still show up automatically soon-ish. Anyone in the same boat and has/has not gotten them?

There was an earlier post on another thread about how QF had an IT glitch and promised somewhere on their website that it's being fixed and all will be up to date by 24 Feb

Cheers skip

Ah that's great, because OH's year ended 31/1, should have had the rollover plus PC+ 100, but she's had neither, so good to know it's hopefully in hand (because my year ends 28/2!).

Incidentally, one of the green ticks for Green status has gone green (as in completed), the one for the survey, which never reappeared to do again - so that's good news, as there's almost zero chance we'll be staying in any of those million dollar eco lodges, so the other 5 are pretty much mandatory if we want to keep green.

My year ended 31/1 also. I have had the PC+100SC credited but not the 250SC rollover for SG. I gained 540 SC just by flying last year so should get the maximum 250. Hopefully they sort it out by Friday so i don't have to reach out.

Hmm, she hasn't had the PC+ 100SC either. I can see some moaning coming on, might draft an email and flick it off to QF in anticipation of it not working as intended!

Well, 24/4 has arrived, and her (my OH) SCs haven’t, so emailed QF. Will wait nine months for a response.

I’ll be a bit more annoyed if mine don’t apply when my year ends in four days…we shall see!

No sign of my partner's SC rollover either. End date was 31 Jan, the PC+ 100 SC appeared the next day, but still no sign of the rollover 500 SC....

Exactly the same here. It’s a big fat nopey from Qantas it seems.
