Qantas Flight Voucher Promo - earn 10x points [Expired 26DEC11]

Qantas are simply trying to sell seats on flights over the next 12 months. You buy a voucher and you make a commitment to make at least one booking.

Money in the bank for Qantas....

It is estimated that 20 per cent of gift vouchers are never redeemed, which means retailers pocket millions of dollars.

So between the promo price of say $500 for 5000 points and buying extra 5000 top points is $317.60 difference its still better to get the promo.

Isn't it a choice between:

5,000 Qantas top up points for $182.50. Cost for points = $182.50

or

5,000 Qantas points and $500.00 Qantas travel credit (that will earn more points) for $500.00. Cost for points = $0.00

?

Oh and there's this:
Top-up Points

Points may only be purchased with a specific Award in mind.

The voucher purchase points will be freely usable points.

Not a bad deal but too bad its only applicable for domestic and ex-AUS flights only. I buy a few ex-SIN fares so I guess I wouldn't be able to use it.

Sorry but just wondering if someone can clarify - I can buy myself 2 (for example, or more) $500 vouchers and get 2 x 5000 'bonus' points, and then apply those vouchers to separate bookings sometime over the next 12 months. Cheers Dave

Correct, one voucher per flight, max 5000 points, needs to be used within 12 months.

Hi Everyone,

We are pleased that you are all excited about out Xmas gift ideas. A few points to provide some more info about Flight Gift Vouchers:
  • You can only redeem one voucher per booking.
  • It is possible to redeem two vouchers for a return trip if you purchase two one-way fares as separate bookings (remember, vouchers can be redeemed for Qantas domestic flights or Qantas international flights departing Australia. Multi-city bookings are excluded).
  • There is no limit to how many vouchers you can purchase. However vouchers are only valid for 12 months.
  • To receive your bonus points you must firstly purchase a flight voucher at qantas.com and then register online for the points using your Frequent Flyer number and voucher booking reference.
  • Vouchers are redeemable at qantas.com/giftvouchers
  • Please see the terms and conditions.
Details about this offer including full conditions, how to register for the points and other Xmas gift ideas can be viewed here:

Enjoy,
Red Roo

You will be also restricted by the maximum voucher amount which is $500, IIRC. You can only use one voucher per booking. [-]So maximum of 5000 points from the voucher.[/-]

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Reading all the posts here made me realise I was wrong. When buying the voucher you nominate value and number of people. I just did a dummy booking and for 3 people on a $300 voucher it wanted $900. So if you have multiple people planning to travel together you can get more that $500 worth of voucher.

So if buying for yourself you probably need to buy for one person at a time. I couldn't put in 9 people on a $50 voucher all for Medhead. :?:

I've been looking at flying from MEL to SYD in January.

Current O fare is $117 composed of $94 and $23 in [SUB]+[/SUB]+[SUP]+[/SUP]; add $7.70 to that if paying by CC to total $125.

Earn is 1000 QFF points for the flight and 312 points with 2½point/$ card.

So 1312 QFF points for trip and $125.

With this same O fare, $50¹ voucher + $67 in [SUB]+[/SUB]+[SUP]+[/SUP] to total $117.

Earn is 1000 QFF points, 500 bonus and 294 points with 2½point/$ card.

So 1794 QFF points for trip and $117 outlay.

¹ Since the base fare is less than $100 and greater than or equal to $50

My question...
I have a voucher from disrupted travel for a few hundred.
Can I use that voucher and buy one of these vouchers together?
Or can I only use one voucher of any type when redeeming?
Please and thankyou.
Taez
PS. Cool idea.

That was going to be my next point of research. How much are the taxes and surcharges.

So for me purchasing a $50 voucher I can redeem for an $89 flight and pay the rest with Qantas Amex and avoid the credit card surcharge. :D

How many QFF points will I earn? 1,000 QFF points for flight, 500 QFF points for purchasing voucher and 200 for $89 purchase at 2.25 QFF points per dollar. Not bad at all. :D

So what happens if I have a $100 voucher and the flight total cost is say $85

Is the $15 simply wasted or can it be re-used ?

Answered my own question when going to buy the vouchers

"Must be wholly redeemed in one transaction for adult base fares (excludes surcharges, fees and taxes) of equal or higher value to the voucher amount. Surcharges, fees and taxes apply to all fares paid with a voucher and must be paid by credit card at the time of redemption."

Okay so another question

I can buy 9 x $xx/xx_ vouchers then ? All under my name ?

I will wait until the 21st of December for this I think

Firstly my billing cycle starts then, so it gives me another 4 weeks to pay for this

AND

We can hope that Virgin come out with a similar deal :mrgreen:

Not sure I am a huge fan of collecting too many QFF points at the moment... Who knows what we'll be able to actually use them for in a few years time :shock:

Hmmm, once again while its a nice little earner if you are already planning to fly with them and maybe have status to earn more bonuses, for me, the points total end up being so small that it's not worth paying the extra money to fly Qantas for an extra 500 points or so...

So between the promo price of say $500 for 5000 points and buying extra 5000 top points is $317.60 difference its still better to get the promo.

You just need to be in a position to be able to wait 8 weeks

not worth paying the extra money to fly Qantas

That's a discussion for another thread  But overall they both work out about the same at the end of the day!

I notice that Virgin Australia Gift Vouchers | Virgin Australia appears on the front page of Virgin...

No mention of Bonus Velocity points though...... I do like that the Virgin ones are "Multiple use until $0 balance"

Easy to buy a $5000 voucher and not fiddle around with $50 vouchers!

Come on Virgin... 10 bonus points per $1 and I am sure you will get a nice-take up of the offer!

I am personally tempted to move about $5000+ of domestic travel to Qantas to earn 50,000 bonus points!

Sorry couldnt quite follow. Assuming [SUB]+[/SUB]+[SUP]+[/SUP] is tax, why are they different in each section? or you are saying using $100 voucher would waste 6 dollars? If so then would work out even better with slightly more expensive fare (going elsewhere) :)

The +++ represents "Taxes/Levies/Charges". With a standard CC booking the +++ includes the $7.70 fee. Buying and using a voucher avoids that fee.

btw what would be the reason to buy of qantas website when you can get a travel agent to do it for you without the huge cc fee esp with price match = no CC fee. (under normal circumstances, not voucher related)
