btw what would be the reason to buy of qantas website when you can get a travel agent to do it for you without the huge cc fee esp with price match = no CC fee. (under normal circumstances, not voucher related)

To get it charged to the Qantas merchant account and get the extra points from a number of credit cards (EDR MC, Earth, ANZ FF Visa/AMEX). If it goes on the travel agent's merchant account you won't get that. If the travel agent put it through the Qantas merchant account (which they can do), you get hit with the fees anyway to my knowledge.

My feeling exactly. unless you were paying with a CC that gives you bonus points, and were paying for say a family holiday that made the bonus points more valuable than the CC fee charged, I'll make most of my bookings with expedia or zuji as they don't charge any CC fees.

Yea the only time i did that was to get my 2500pt bonus :D

Otherwise i have been going through my TA in flight centre so each flight is $21 off + no CC fees. So i guess if bonus points is more than CC fee + $21 then better go with Qantas website.

You have this backwards. There is no CC fee when using the voucher. So you get the bonus points and you do not pay a CC fee.

See my comment above, there is no CC fee when using the voucher. The last, and only time, I used flight center they did charge a CC fee and they were more expensive than the Qantas website.

Also for weekly domestic flights, it is much more convenient for me to book myself because I can search for the best fares, I can make changes to my booking as needed and I get points for using my CC including bonus.

So I've just booked a $228 return fare with a $100 voucher. 1250 points for buying the voucher, 2900 points for the flight; that's 43% more points and no CC fee.

So what happens if I have a $100 voucher and the flight total cost is say $85

Is the $15 simply wasted or can it be re-used ?

Answered my own question when going to buy the vouchers
Yes found out about that one earlier. Need to be careful what flights a $50 voucher covers let alone a $100 voucher.

Okay so another question

I can buy 9 x $xx/xx_ vouchers then ? All under my name ?
I have asked this question as well. The response by some and then the lack of clarification from Red Roo would seem to suggest that this is OK.

If worse comes to worse then my brother can buy me 50 $50 vouchers using my credit card.

Yea but thats vouchers aside, talking about normal circumstances. We know there is no CC fee with voucher use. The bonus point i was talking about was the 2500 with qantas spend on the amex discovery.

I guess i am lucky i dont have to change my flights etc so booking through my TA, with a flight like yours for 228 return, it would cost me 186 with no CC fees. That probably even works out better than with vouchers but will need to do some calculations and i cant be bothered :p.

Sorry, better get back on topic :)

Took a random look at flights MEL-SYD on 5th March 2012.

Qantas: Cheapest is $95.00
Expedia Cheapest (for same QF flights): $102.70

So Expedia is $7.70 more expensive. MMmmmm Why is that amount familiar???

Changing, refunding dealing with operational issues? I'd prefer dealing direct with Qantas.

You mean in the one transaction? If you pay as 9 passengers in the one go, then all 9 of you will have to travel together

Well since it is all under the one name - all 9 of you could have a collective total of 9x$500= $4500 to use on a one-way/return flight  somehow I don't think QANTAS will see it this way though....

Did anyone find out if the expiry meant all flights had to be completed within the 12 month period?

A nice little Christmas bonus for us points obsessed travellers/spenders :)

Reading this thread and QF website, I am 99.9% sure there is nothing stopping us from buying a voucher for myself. I might just buy myself a Christmas gift or two.

I'm guessing with any voucher system there is some wastage (customers who don't redeem vouchers) so it might be good for the balance sheet.

I grabbed 2x $50 vouchers for myself yesterday and had no problem in them being issued or when looking at redeeming them.

Brought a voucher, tried a dummy booking BNE-CNS 19 May.
Cost on the voucher redemption site for redeal is $155, Qantas
website is $129 (currently on sale).

Beware if your buying these vouchers to redeem against sale fares,
you will most likely lose out.

WOW, thats really good to know. Different prices for difference booking section.......... on purpose?

Not different prices, just one of the conditions of the voucher is that the fare excluding QF surcharges must be at least the voucher amount. Thus, if your voucher is too high it will skip the lowest fares.

In the situation above, if a $50 voucher had been used there would have been unlikely to be an issue.

Yes well say I want to purchase about 50 voucher at $50 each..

I will have to purchase these one by one in 50 separate transactions ?

I had no issue booking an E class sale fare today..
