Qantas Lounge Standards

Your should have seen the wing first lounge today in HKG a male pax drunk as and not able to find the toilet. Dry reaching that loud staff went in to rescue him and then remove him. All prior to 10am.

I can see why this discussion gets nowhere.
Your psuedo anti-snob satire has nothing to do with the realities of decent good behavior, so once again the dicussion founders on silly class war jokes.
Don't know why I bothered. Qantas flights are obviously full of slobs who want us all to revert to the lowest common denominator.
Stop the discussion, it's a waste of all our time.

And snobbishness about what people wear has nothing to do with "decent good behaviour" - I have seen people in very nice suits behaving like total a***s, and people in singlets and shorts behaving very well.

I don't think anything more than pub standards (no shirt, no shoes, no service) should apply in lounges, but I do think decent standards of behaviour should be enforced (no yelling into mobile phones, no cutting toenails, no letting children run riot unsupervised).

How you're dressed != how you behave. It's pure snobbishness to suggest it does.

People these days don't bother to dress properly anymore and it's shown everywhere, not only in airline lounges.
I can think of 2 recent examples:

I attended a formal event at the Sydney Opera House where I spotted guests wearing jeans & sneakers.

Last Saturday I stayed at Palazzo Versace and dined at their flagship restaurant where 'smart evening dress code applies'. I spotted someone wearing a T-shirt.

Back to topic, It doesn't bother me when people are dressed too casually in lounges (or anywhere else for that matter) because I can always choose to look the other way and mind my own business. BUT, when I hear pax talking loudly on their mobiles/tablets/laptops or with their friends and treat the lounge like it's their local pub, then I get annoyed because I can't ignore them even if I wanted to.
I wish there would be some rules against that but I'm not holding my breath for Qantas to do anything about it.
I'm thankful for being able to use the J lounges. I'm sure things are much worse at QP's.

Bogan pride... Prue from Kew... Who cares? I'll wear whatever the F I want to any q-pub including the FCL. And now that I know it pisses off some prudes, I'll go out of my way to offend. Get over it snobs.

Nice to see you elevating the standards
Well done

Agree with you but nothing anyone is going to do about it.

Society's dress standards have dropped considerably (for the worse in my opinion) and very soon those who dress nicely are the ones that will be left out.

Sad but unavoidable. Must destroy before you can start rebuilding....

Not saying you grew up in the 70's JohnK but I think today's dress standards:

are an improvement over this:

dare i suggest that if guy No1 was wearing guy No2 outfit....THAT would be an improvement!! lol.....its all relative really!! ... we ALL judge others according to OUR set of 'standards' ...happens everywhere/everyday... there will NEVER be a solution that APPEASES everyone..it's human nature!!! .... i often wonder if other species who share this planet have such 'issues'...

My main gripe is that people should be neat, clean and tidy. Jeans and a t-shirt are fine. I'm not wanting people to wear Sunday best, or trousers and a tie.

How can people not just simply take some pride in their appearance? Neat and Tidy != Hi Viz IMHO.

I'm not going to argue points, it's been done to death.

You could arguably say that if Hi-Viz *is* neat and tidy - its not being worn in the environments it was designed for.

Actually I have 2 hi-viz vests, and they are both very neat and tidy. I needed them a few years back when working at an expo. This was back when I was running my own business, and I didn't have the money to outsource advertising to others (besides that would have meant giving up an amazing trip). Given that during set up and pack up there was cars and forklifts around the place hi-viz was required so you didn't get run over, but the expo halls where far from dusty and dirty by the time I arrived (I was setting up computer equipment there, I would not have been doing so if it was dusty and dirty).

Don't assume just because someone wear's hi-viz vests that they are not otherwise white collar.

Plus with at least one site (PER of all places ) we did the pack up and went straight out to the airport, unlike the other cities where after pack up we had another night in the city before flying out the next morning.

I did say Arguably ;)

I for one don't give a rats what one wears to a lounge, the days of lounges resembling the ambiance of a luxury cruise liner are long gone. In fact I find the suits in lounges to have the most appalling attitudes of courtesy to others more so than hi-viz wearers.

I have obviously been visiting the wrong parts of this forum. Never had any idea people cared about stuff like this. Surely it is impolite behaviour such as loud conversations that are the real issue? I absolutely echo the sentiments that the quiet and polite person in a singlet, shorts and thongs is far more welcome in the lounge (or anywhere) than the drunk guys in suits yelling over the top of each other after work.

And even if there was a correlation between impolite behaviour and dress, which I'd suggest there isn't, attempting to blame the dress seems to be completely missing the point.

I've been fortunate enough to frequent almost all of the oneworld F lounges now and my attire is exclusively t-shirt and shorts / track pants. Basically because that is what is comfortable for me on long flights. It has never struck me as the slightest bit unappreciative or disrespectful to dress that way. In fact, it seems pretty common. Even pyjamas seem to be well accepted before red-eyes. I get a kick out of seeing people enter in suits, make a beeline for the bathroom and come out in the Qantas greys! It is borderline amazing to me that someone could find a way to be offended by that kind of thing.

The hi-viz that is constantly referred to around here though is typically the fluro orange shirts, not the vests. Vests are even less of an excuse as they fold quite neatly into any carry on.

Oh dear. I can cope with everything that my kids have thrown at me but I don't cope well with strangers doing it. Especially when self inflicted.

The thing which most turns me off? Bare armpits. Now, women get away with it but men.....

I agree with you. The first person is well dressed.

Big difference from wearing those type of clothes and wearing singlet, shorts and thongs and look like you belong at the beach on your own back yard.

Jeans on a long haul flight? No thanks!

I almost always wear jeans on long haul flights... I've even been known to wear jeans on short haul and take my suit in a carry on bag and get changed at my destination.

It's all I ever wear on long haul flights. Last year, I did 7 round trips to the USA and 2 to Europe. All in Jeans. What else would I wear? Certainly not shorts, and even a pair of casual trousers are sure to look awful after 14-24 hours in a metal tube.

I wear yoga pants, jeans are not nearly comfortable enough for me on a 4+ hour flight!
